  • Excellent Phil, that's one nasty scar on his ankle!
  • He also mentioned that he still hasnt had an apology from Blizzard and a few other understandably unprintable comments
  • good interview choice, interesting that he feels his best position is at centre half. May be needed next year (if hes still here).
  • His current contract expires presumably 30 June; he tells us he reports back with the squad on 1st July.

The question not asked, Phil ..... but the one we all want to know the answer to: Has Grant been offered a new contract?

I was thinking that his contract ran out end of June.

    Great work though Phil.

Pretty much what I was going to say.

I assumed Basey was a player we were offering a contract to, since he wasn't on the released list. Could still some of them leave if they get or feel they can get better offers elsewhere, but I think we'll surely be looking to keep those players we didn't release.
  • Interesting what he said about fans at The Valley getting on players back, should show that clip to some of the boo boys. Not sure if our away form will be so good next year so we need to make The Valley a place where it is the opposition players that fear playing, not our own team.

Not sure about Basey as CB but only due to lack of pace. Would like to see him play LM next season, infront of Youga or Jackson could give us a real threat and good balance down the left.
  • There was conversation about his contract we had at the 13th hole which will be part of the overall golf day video. There are negotiations, Grant wants to stay and there have been other offers from 6 other clubs

I overheard his dad confirming this late on too

ps - good to meet you Phil and thanks for not posting my tee shot on 13th tee :-)

  • It was truly pants - toe of club and went like a cruise missile off the back of the green - not my finest moment!

The 2 birds from the sponsors who were robbing money off everyone at the 13th were laughing about someone who hit a shocker on the 13th. I wonder if that was you mate :)
  • The Fans getting on the teams back really stood out for me

Good to get a player's perspective of the moronic behaviour of the Boo boys.
  • CB's don't always need pace, and certainly can do with less than a fb. Just look at Chris Perry. The one's that can read the game and have an eye for the pass, are much more likely to cope better inside where they're not having to deal with one-on-one's; unless it's a Pardew team.

His performance against an albeit below average Barnet, was excellent. His passing and willingness to bring the bal;l forward when Barnet were out of position was superb.

Pace is always handy to have, of course. If you've got it and you are a useful CB, then you'll already be playing in a higher league than the Third Division.

And if you're playing in tandem alongside somebody with quick feet (Sam Sodje, for example), then lack of pace can often be covered. What Basey has is strength on the ball, a good 1st touch and composure, with awareness of movement from team mates........ the same attributes that made Bobby Moore England captain.

Grant's big enough and solid too, and evidently keen to try his luck at CB.
