yes, as well as Akpo four of the out of contract players are tied up for another year or two in some cases plus two "new" signings one of which is an "old" face if you know what I mean.

I have it on good authority that Messrs Parkinson, Kinsella and Breaker are in South Africa as we speak hoping to secure the signing of some really big names.
Don't want to say too much but I did hear a whisper that Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Greece) and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (Cameroon) were amongst the names being touted.

Are we really that desperate for a few extra quid for the names on the backs of the shirts?
i think the problem is there is a lot of completion for the decent freebies and we are probably waiting on a number of players to make their minds up. no doubt Parky and co are trying their hardest to bring players in.
What concerns me is that all the Best available Freebies will be snapped up pretty sharpish, the longer it takes for us to ship out the ones no longer required on larger contracts + the sale of any players we can get money for (Bailey) the smaller the pool of decent freebies available is. Hurry up Charlton, as most players available on Frees will be out of contract in about a fortnight we need to be there at the front of the queue or be left picking the players no-one else wanted.

It's not as much as a worry as it might seem, we signed Llera at the end of June, Richardson over a week into July and Dailly even later.
I am sure there will be bargains to be had later, but it's not dis-similar to when you are in the playground at school with captains picking teams. The players left at the end are the ones that nobody really wants. Surely it's better to be at the front of the queue?

Not sure it is like that at all.
More like a pretty and an ugly girl in a club. The ugly girl will take the first offer she gets as she knows she might not get another. The pretty girl knows other offers will come so doesn't have to cop off with the first bloke who gives her the eye.
Or maybe not. It was a long time since I did anything like that.

Maybe something in that. Llera our first defensive signing, got better with Richardson, and finally Christian Dailly (though Sam Sodje signed later on).
I suppose Leon McKenzie being signed last makes him the girl outside the club being sick. Even with her problems she got picked up in the end by someone with little else to choose from...

I though all girls were pretty.
Even the pretty ugly ones.
I suspect there are a lot of players who may be considering their options .
We saw later in the year that both Johnnie Jackson and Kyle Reid came close to signing last summer , but our finance was not in place to do so they both moved on. Selling Bailey early could be key to this.
I would like Burton and Sodje to stay , but appreciate there are other options out there and maybe better players might be available.

What you're forgetting of course is that this time last season we'd have been offering better wages, therefore increasing our chances of getting better players.
This season we'll be lucky to pay anyone more than 3k a week so this will limit our options

True, but that doesn't necessarily mean signings will be sorted out any quicker. Just that we'll be competing different clubs.
All football clubs will have less cash - many are on the verge of Administration or worse.
There will be smaller squads in all leagues - even the big four - and a greater availability of players.
The advantage will go to those with a little more cash than the others in their leagues and who have managers and locations players want to play for/at.
I think Parky has a good reputation and certainly brought in some good signings. There will be some players who will play for us who could have played at a higher level - e.g Daily/Richardson

Perhaps your right Chris but I think we're not the only Club with tight financial restrictions and think very few clubs will be flashing the cash. I think we may miss out on a few players but I think we'll still be competitive with most clubs when it comes to signings.

Probably only Southampton and possibly Sheff Wed and Huddersfield, could offer better contracts than ourselves in our division.
Otherwise, we'll still be an attractive prospect for potential signings.

our size works against us too - if we are interested the players up their demands

Eh?
Must mean the takeover is all but complete with that calibre of player returning

Not the cardigan fetishists
That's a woolly answer.
Best button it now.
