MAY

17th - Charlton lose out on penalties to Swindon, PARKY "The lads are devastated. Nicky Bailey's inconsolable in there, he can't speak. But he's won us many games this season with his whole-hearted displays and he's been terrific. I don't think I've ever been in a more distraught dressing room in my whole career. The lads are devastated, not a word has been spoken. I just had to say to them ‘lads, you've done yourselves proud with the performance you've put in tonight’, because they put in a tremendous display. To go out on penalties is cruel, but I couldn't have asked for any more of them."

19th - Sky Sports speculate Burnley, Newcastle, Leicester, QPR and Sheffield United have expressed interest in out of contract LLOYD SAM.

20th - Akpo SODJE signs a permanent deal.

20th - RICHARD MURRAY in SLP: “Phil has still got a year left on his contract and I expect him to see it out. We will be running a much lower-budget squad next year than we’ve had this season. However, there are a number of players who haven’t played much but have been on decent wages, so that is something we can sort out. We’ve got 14 players out of contract and we have to decide which ones we want to keep. We will have to make one or two sales. We will attempt to put together a competitive squad which should give us a chance of being in the top six. I can’t promise the fans it will be a top-notch team which will see us storm to the title, but it will be competitive.”

21st - MACRON extend their kit sponsorship deal to include the Charlton Athletic Community Trust in a 4-year deal.

21st - Charlton announce LEON MCKENZIE, CHRIS DICKSON, MATT SPRING, DEAN SINCLAIR and JACK CLARK will all be leaving this summer.

21st - PARKY in SLP: "It was a blow - we did everything we could and deserved to win it but sometimes you don't get what you deserve. We were one win from going up automatically and we were one penalty kick away from getting to the play-off final. I haven't watched it back yet but it shouldn't really have gone to penalties because we had enough chances to win the game. Given all the work which has gone in this season, it is hard to miss out, particularly as we know the implications for the club are big. A lot of people have worked extremely hard, so it's incredibly disappointing."

22nd - Burnley rumoured to express interest in DARREN RANDOLPH

25th - PARKY in News Shopper: “Over the next seven days, the board will sit down to discuss budgets for the forthcoming season and we will look at all the other players whose contracts are coming to an end.”

26th - Charlton announce KRBS is to sponsor the academy for next two years, though no figures released. WAGGOTT: "Concluding this new two-year sponsorship agreement deal a week after the huge disappointment of going out of the play-offs is a very positive start in the build-up to next season. We are also in further commercial discussions with KRBS regarding their support for other areas of the club, which will be further good news when these additional agreements are finalised."

26th - PARKY in SLP: “I’ll sit down with the board in the next week and discuss how we move forward,” said Parkinson. I’m confident that if we move quickly to secure some free-transfer signings then we’ll have a strong squad for next season. Until I sit down with the board and discuss budgets I don’t know what the restrictions are. Like any manager I want to keep my best players and to make the squad stronger. I’ve already had talks with one or two players and hopefully we’ll be able to move quickly.”

27th - Charlton express interest in Rochdale striker CHRIS DAGNELL. PARKY: “Chris is a player we watched last season and he’s a good young forward”

27th - JOSE SEMEDO named CHARLTON LIFE STATBANK player of the year. For all the facts and figures from last season, click here

28th - PARKY on returning loan players: “As it stands those players have all gone back. They’ve all made contributions but until the board confirm what money we’ll have to spend on wages, I’m not in a position to look at bringing players in.”

28th - Bristol Rovers sign released academy player HARRY PELL on a 1-year deal.

28th - PARKY in SLP: “We will be offering a contract to DARREN RANDOLPH. It’s been a good turnaround for him and he’s done very well. If he signs for us then he’ll be competing with Rob for the number one shirt. I’ve told them both to go away this summer and come back ready for a battle."

28th - Charlton confirm that young hopeful JORDAN COUSINS will be offered a pro contract when he turns 17 in March 2011. COUSINS: "I'm delighted to be told about getting a pro deal. There was always going to be interest from other clubs, but I think it was best for me to stay at Charlton. Being from Greenwich, hopefully making my home debut will be one of the best feelings I can have. That's a big reason why I agreed to sign."

    JULY

1st - DARREN RANDOLPH signs for Motherwell on a 3 year deal

1st - PARKY in SLP - “I’ve been working extremely hard all summer to line up as many deals as possible but I haven’t yet been in a position to push them through. I’m hoping now that, with Nicky’s transfer almost complete, we will be able to start rebuilding the squad. We owe it to our loyal supporters to put a team out on the pitch which will be competitive.

“I’m worried that the longer we leave it, the more quality players we’ll lose out on. I’ve got several deals on the table but I need to be able to push them over the finishing line.”

2nd - STUART FLEETWOOD joins Hereford United, rumoured to be for a nominal fee of £20k rising to £100k on appearances, goals and promotion.

2nd - PARKY on OS: "I think everyone knows the financial situation. I haven't really been in a position over the summer to improve the squad or finalise the futures of out-of-contract players. But we know what needs to be done, and we know that it needs to be done sooner rather than later.”

5th - Sky Sports report GARY DOHERTY has signed for Charlton on a two-year contract. Doherty was a key member of Norwich's title winning defence last season and came 3rd in their POTY. Now a 30yr old free agent.

6th - Charlton confirm GARY DOHERTY has signed http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36234&newstype=p

6th - Charlton sell FRAZER RICHARDSON to that t*at Pardew at Southampton for a fee rising to £450k

6th - Charlton sign ALAN McCORMACK http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36239 On the signing, Parky says:

"The thing that struck me about him more than anything else was his hunger. Anyone that I bring into this club this summer, whether it's a member of staff or a player, has got to relish the challenge like I am as it is going to be a challenge this season.

"Alan fits the bill in terms of his enthusiasm and his hunger to join Charlton Athletic Football Club. He's a player I've watched many, many times and I always come away admiring his performance. We look forward to working with him."

7th - NICKY BAILEY officially completes his transfer to Middlesborough for £1.4m (+sell on fee). Charlton are to pay £225k of that to Southend.

8th - JOHNNIE JACKSON signs on a free transfer from Notts County. Parky: "I'm delighted to complete the signing of Johnnie. Our supporters will have seen him briefly last season when he played well for us on loan, and his versatility - his ability to play left-back, left midfield or centre midfield - will be very important to us going forward."

8th - DOHERTY: "I can't wait to pull the shirt on for the first time and hopefully have a successful season here. When the gaffer started preparing the team after the upset of the play-off defeat, he rang me pretty much straight away, which was great,”

"It's been something which has been going on for a while, but I'm just delighted to be on board. I think it's a move that is going to be worth waiting for. A lot of things have happened to me at The Valley, so I'm hoping it can be a good hunting ground for me because you need really good home form to get out of this league.

"Pre-season is always hard, and we had a double session straight away, which was tough. But you expect that. I've tried to keep fit over the summer so I didn't come back and get an injury or look unfit. I did all that and prepared properly".

"There is a terrific bunch of lads here. Obviously there have been a lot of ins and outs, and there will probably be more though the summer. Now it's about getting a new team spirit."

"Promotion has got to be our main aim. We are a massive club and we need to be really pushing hard for that. We are in League One, but this is not a League One club. I feel once we get into the Championship the club can really kick off again, and get back up to the Premier League.

"That's what everyone's aim is at the start of the season. We know it's not going to be easy, but if you can get a team that's playing well and is steady enough, if the team spirit is good and everyone gets a good amount of games when the team settles, then I think we've got a great chance.”
    http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36241

8th - McCORMACK: "I'm itching to get going. I'm desperate to get back in and play and prove I'm able to play at a big club - and able to win things. I had four seasons at Southend, but I knew last year the way things were going that I had to leave. I needed a new chapter and a big challenge, and this is it. This is a big challenge for me and it's something I'm capable of doing. I'm very much looking forward to getting down to some hard work."

"We agreed on everything really quickly, and I was happy with what they offered. I've always been impressed with the gaffer here, and the experience he's got. He told me about the ambition he has got for this club and where he wants to go. I was very impressed with him and I'm very much looking forward to working with him and hoping he develops me into a better player."

"The stadium here, the fans and the history of the club; I don't think there are too many players who would pass up an opportunity to play here and I'm certainly not one of them."

"I like to battle, I like to graft and have always been a hard worker. I get from box to box, break things up and get around people's faces, and have a will to win. I like to get on the ball and pass it, and I'd like to think I'm a good all-rounder. I'll do any job for the team.

"I'm here to win things. I've got an ambition to win things and play in the Championship and at a higher level, so I couldn't think of a bigger club to join. As soon as I knew Charlton were interested, I made this my number one club to come to."
    http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36244

8th - Parky on out of contract CHRISTIAN DAILLY: “I would like Christian to stay and we’re working hard to make that happen,”

8th - Charlton confirm left wing trialist ETIENNE ESAJAS, released by Sheff W, will play some part in Saturday's friendly with AFC Wimbledon.

8th - Parky on out of contract SCOTT WAGSTAFF: “We’re close to agreeing a deal with Scott. We’d like to keep him.”

8th - Parky on RICHARDSON leaving: “It was a disappointment to lose Frazer because we didn’t expect that to happen. It happened very quickly and the board decided it was a deal they wanted to take. I’ve got a bit of work to do with the back four now but I’m pleased with the players we’ve brought in this week.”

9th - Out of contract LLOYD SAM has signed for Leeds after passing a medical that presumably lasted for no longer than 65 minutes.

9th - JOHNNIE JACKSON: "I'm delighted, really pleased. I enjoyed my time here last season on loan. I didn't want to leave but unfortunately my spell was cut short with the injury, so it's lovely to be back.”

"The manager made contact with Notts to ask about my situation. He then spoke to my agent to see if I'd be interested in the move and, after a bit of haggling with Notts, I managed to reach an agreement that they'd let me go to come here.

"I know Gary Doherty from my time at Tottenham and I know plenty of the other lads so it's not like coming to a completely new club where you don't know anyone. I feel part of it already. I'm a player who can do various jobs. Should the manager need to use me in midfield, then so be it, if he needs to use me at full-back then he's got that option as well. I'm happy to do either really."

    9th - SCOTT WAGSTAFF signs a new 2 year deal: http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36252

"I'm delighted to sign the new deal. It shows the club has faith in my ability and now I'm looking forward to pushing on this season.”

9th - New home kit is released: http://www.cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36251

    10th - PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY: AFC Wimbledon 2 - 0 Charlton
Mix of 1st team, youngsters and trialists go down to two 2nd half goals. PARKY: "We gave 45 minutes to everybody, and it was a good exercise on the road to the first day of the season. There are no injuries and the lads have come up well physically and will take that to the next game. In the second half, we had the kids out there, and it gave them a chance to show me and the supporters what they can do.
"They didn't perhaps show up as well as they would have liked, and it can be a bit of a harsh lesson for them sometimes. It's quite tough when you come up against a Conference team, and we weren't quite strong enough. But that's the first 45 minutes we've had, and it's great in pre-season when the youngsters get the chance to play in these types of games. We had a very inexperienced team out there and we got punished. Our supporters know we've got a lot of work to do to.”

"All in all, though, it was a fitness exercise, and we look forward to the next game on Tuesday when we will take our performance onto another level.”

    JULY CONTINUED...

12th - PARKY:I've got to get some quality into the squad. We all know there is work to be done. We've got 11 or 12 senior players and we need a squad of 20 players, so I'll be working hard to bring in another eight players.”

"There is no real timescale as it is important to get the right ones. In terms of squad building, it is a work in progress throughout pre-season training. We have got a lot of work to do, and this squad at the moment is a million miles away from what it's got to be to be competitive in this division. Obviously, we have brought back Johnnie Jackson, who was here last season, and there are other players I am speaking to.

"I've been working hard. I'm up at 7am every day and working hard with the rest of the board and the chairman, who are working hard to find the funds to improve the squad. The board are Charlton supporters and they want to see a team out there that is competitive, and we will be endeavouring to do that.”

PARKY says: "We've waited a long time to get this deal done. As always seems to be the case in life, sometimes you have to be patient to get the player you want. Obviously, he comes in a little bit behind in terms of fitness because he hasn't been playing at Southend for contractual reasons, but it's a terrific signing for the club, he's a young player who is only going to get better and we look forward to working with him” http://cafc.co.uk/newsview.ink?nid=36338

31st - Watford A (3pm) - Charlton lose 1-0 but impress in attack without actually scoring. Both NORBET and BAUZA play in the game. Will they sign?

    AUGUST

1st - Parky on potential signings: "I've been quite clear with the numbers we need and we'll probably need another four. Whether we can get them before Saturday is another matter, but the chairman has been working extremely hard to assist me to do the deals that I want to do."
"We know who we'd like to bring in and they take a while to get over the finishing line, but we're pleased with all the lads we've brought in, and will probably add a bit more quality to our squad. It's been a frustrating summer, but gradually as we get towards the season I can see this squad evolving in terms of playing together as a team which gets better as we go along. There's going to be a lot of new faces in the starting XI next Saturday, but there are some good characters and I'm really pleased with the additions we've made so far.”

2nd - Arsenal youngster Emmanual Frimpong suggests there has been potential loan interest in the defensive midfielder from Charlton, amongst other clubs.

3rd - Released Yassin Moutaouakil has been offered a trial by Swansea

4th - Charlton appear set to sign ROSS WORNER from Woking as back-up goalkeeper to Robbie Elliot, with the youngster reported to have passed a medical on Tuesday.

5th - West Ham youngster MATT FRY returns on a youth loan to Charlton until Jan 4th

5th The signing of ROSS WORNER for an undisclosed fee is confirmed.

5th - PARKY: "I'm still looking for at least three new players. I'm really pleased with the core of the team; the defence, the midfield is getting there. But we need a goal threat and we're working hard to get that. Unfortunately, signing strikers is the hardest thing to do. They don't come cheap and clubs don't want to sell their best goalscorers.” He adds that a striker from Holland is currently on trial.

5th - CHRISTIAN DAILLY is confirmed as captain. Parky: He's well respected in the dressing room and a perfect captain. Out of all the signings we've made this summer, his was probably the most important. Twenty players, including the loans, have left the club since the end of last season, and it was important that we kept some continuity in the building and I thought Christian was pivotal in that. We're delighted he has signed for another year and he's come back even fitter.

6th - PARKY - "The freshness and appetite at the training ground has been fantastic. We've brought in players with a lot of experience at this level, and they're good players as well. There are lots of players, hundreds of them, out of contract at the moment, and I could have easily filled the squad with five or six of those players, but it's important I don't settle for mediocrity. I want to get players who are good enough to wear the Charlton shirt."

"I want a successful season, the same as we did at the start of last season. We want to finish as high as possible and gain promotion. At the moment, I feel the squad is some way off that in terms of firepower. It's different to last year, where we almost started with the same side which had finished the season before. I'm pleased with the players we have brought in, though, and the next few signings are crucial to how good this team can be. Southampton are clear favourites in my eyes, and under them there are a batch of other clubs competing. I hope we're in that group."

    7th - Charlton 1 - 0 Bournemouth (A Sodje) Post match views

9th - Charlton's appeal against SEMEDO red card is rejected

9th Charlton mark the 10th anniversary of the tragic death of youth player Pierre Bolangi by unveiling a memorial garden

9th - LEE MARTIN "Everyone is pushing in the right direction. That's important if you want to get promoted. It's always nice to get off to a good start, so everyone is happy. The main thing is to continue it. It's brilliant to be playing here. I think the main thing was that I knew Tim and he spoke highly of the manager. Everything I have seen so far shows he is 100 per cent right. It was only Charlton in the back of my mind that I wanted to come and play for. I know everything about the club; I understand the manager and the assistant, and I'm also back around my friends and family.”

    10th - Shrewsbury 4 - 3 Charlton (Carling Cup Rnd 1) (Abbott 2, Martin 1) Post match views

11th - PARKY post-Shrewsbury defeat "the negatives are that we've gone out in a game we really should have won, and I honestly felt the team I picked had enough quality to win. When we were 3-0 up, we were all patting ourselves on the back and I thought we'd cracked it. But whatever team we had out tonight, when you're 3-0 up you've got to see the game through, and we did some incredibly naive things.”

12th - PARKY on potential signings "The core is good but we need more quality and are working towards that. I certainly won't be signing players to be squad players; I'll be looking to bring in people who will improve the starting XI. We are working together towards that.”

    13th - Leyton Orient 1 - 3 Charlton(McCormack, Wagstaff, Solly) Post match views

14th - PARKY post-Orient victory "All in all, it was a night when the spirit in the team shone through. We are pleased with the spirit we have which carries us through these sorts of games. We showed it against Bournemouth and had to do it again tonight. We did OK in the first half without reaching the levels we can, but we will get there.”
