  • Really interesting article, Choicey. Nice work getting an interview from Les.
Love to hear stories from the old players.

BTW, in the picture ...... which one is you, and which one is Les?

    ;o)
  • les is the younger looking guy, his secret is years of clarins product usage. i was just going to say that im pretty sure that the photo they have used that states "les fell during his charlton athletic days" is not correct, im sure that isnt a charlton shirt or the valley in the background so it must either be margate fc or palarse as they were his other 2 clubs.

Extract from the London Evening News, 1946.
"Dribbling inside the box, a defender put in a 2 footed tackle and Les fell.
They said he dived, but the ref gave a penalty."

I also looked at that shirt, and thought thaat's no Charlton shirt, unless it was an away kit perhaps?

i think its the "half awake" stand at sellout and thats a palace shirt i reckon, that pic would have been around 52/53 before he went back to Margate i would guess. the half awake used to be split level (standing lower - seating upper) when we played there in the 80s, that what it looks like in the pic
  • You're a credit to the club Choice, keep up the good work.
  • Below is a Margate team photo taken in 1954/55 season featuring Les...

Looking at the similarities of the kit from the two photos I'd say the medway pic is definitely from his Margate days...
