[cite]Posted By: Saga Lout[/cite]I'd be sorry to see either Darren or Rob go, but I'm not sure either would be happy sitting on the bench next season. IMHO they're both good enough to be first choice keepers in a League One side.
Well they can't both play, so it makes sense to let one go really. Keeper isn't a position that needs much rotating

we'll get compensation as long as we offer him a new contract with equal or greater terms; which i'm sure we will. so with any luck we should get £300k-£500k and i'd be happy with that. Randy is a good keeper, maybe slightly better than Elliot; but if we can then use that money to invest in the team then it would be worth it.

I think we're in agreement.
It doesn't need rotating but you always need a backup keeper. I'd like to keep both - I reckon their wage demands are less than a number of experienced keepers anyway. I do seem to be ignoring the fact that those contracts were probably signed when Alan Pardew was in charge though.

Also has to be considered that either might command a handy transfer fee
I have to say that the complete turnaround in attitude of many towards Robbie Elliot following the emergence of Darren Randolph surprises me.
Ooh ah has always had reservations and that is fair enough but the fact is that for 60 odd league games Robbie has proved a highly competent league 1 or higher keeper. Darren Randolph has had 10 or so decent games which, in my view, is not enough to write Robbie off as worse. Consistency is a big part of keeping and Darren has yet to show that. Not his fault I hasten to add he simply has not played enough games.
In an ideal world I would keep them both but they are now at an age where they need regular first team football and, having both had a taste, will not want to keep the bench warm. Frankly I'd be worried if they did. Therefore one of them will (must) go.
Circumstances dictate that Darren is out of contract and a higher level team ia allegedly interested. It therefore makes sense to get the paperwork right by offering him a new contract so we can get some compensation.
A few weeks ago we were chanting Charlton, Charlton's number one to Robbie Elliot!
Not much has changed. The boy will not let us down.

Might have something to do with some of the clangers towards the end of the season he made, Gillingham at Home & Southend away were shocking ones.

Didn't Robbie go off injured during that Gillingham game?
Yes the Southend one was bad but what about the two excellent saves he made earlier to keep us in it?
Every 'keeper makes the odd ricket no matter how good he is. Deano at home to Swindon the year we got promoted for example. I fancy that there are not many who would describe Deano as a poor 'keeper though!
I am not personally saying that Robbie is a bad keeper, but he was certainly not in form later in the season, Randolph was. I would say when they are both at the top of their game there is probably not much in it between them.
I agree in that there isn't really a fag paper between them. I'd be happy with either of them in goal. However, I can't see either being happy at sitting on the bench so, seeing as he is out of contract, I reckon Randolph will go and we will bring in an experienced keeper as back -up. As for Randolph commanding a 300/500k fee as suggested earlier, get real. Parky was willing to let him walk in January and last summer only signed a 1 year deal. Even if it went to a tribunal we are not in a good position so 50/100k absolute max with a sell-on clause is the best we can hope for. In my opinion a Parky mistake made here as earlier in the season he played Ikeme over Randolph and hardly endeared himself to Randy to stay. Randolph has had a good run and put himself in the shop window and that'll be our loss. However, he isn't a great keeper and may never be, just potential at the moment. Ilic was blinding for half a season but got shown up in the PL and then disappeared into oblivion.
[cite]Posted By: Saga Lout[/cite]I can't remember the details, but I seem to recall that Illic smashed his head against the post and never seemed to recover his form after that.
away to west Ham we won 1-0 and he was stretchered off

both Randy and Rob are decent enough for league one both are not 6ft 4 but have other factors which make them good keepers
you dont have to be 7ft odd to be a good keeper look at Deano was a fantastic hero for the club wearing that jesery Randolph has had a superb finish to the season and i think he has made parky re think about his situation and has now been given a fair crack i think its a great to have two young gk's who on there day give there best for the club.
we need to worry more about whats in front of them as we need as fans to support the club more then ever i know fans dont like going to brighton and various other clubs and would much rather go to better grounds and perhaps watch better football we need to maintain the crowds to keep the money rolling in and perhaps this liverpool connection will help with the players which could come in from them other wise we will fall at the way side even more
we are desperate for some one to put some cash into the club surely we have a fans Consortium to either buy the club or perhaps a 50% buy out
we must try and keep our best players i hope we dont lose bailey to Boro or Norwich if what i am hearing is true
we will end up like Leeds 3-4 years in League one they have got by becasue of the support they get from the fans 25,000 plus we averaged 17,000 if we could get that up to 20,000 again that difference might help a long way

how much do you think Randy is worth right now, regardless of how long he is left on his contract? because thats how a tribunal sets the compensation - on the player's market value. if a club brought him for £50k if he still had two years on his contract i think we all would be outraged.
the tribunal also has to take into account that, regardless of how it came to pass; Randolph, at this moment and time, is our first choice keeper. he's been with us since he was 16, he has 10 under-21 international caps and 1 B-team cap... this would also work in our favor.
yeah it might only be 100K up front , but with appearances it could go pass £500k. in fact , I think Burnley wouldn't risk a tribunal and offer us a fee.
If we can only keep one, I'd prefer we kept Randolph, but if hels out of contract we won't have much say anyway. Even if we do have a say we're back in the position where every single person at the club will dispensible for the right money (i.e. any) so if someone wanted to pay a decent fee we might even sell both who knows.
Pity, I've like Randolph since his first game for us and imo, he's yet to have a bad one although he did drop one clanger. I think he'll become a good keeper and may well earn International caps once Given retires so I dearly hope he stays.
If we still have him, Richo, Dailly and Semedo at the club next year (maybe Youga as well if his injury puts people off) we should at least remain relatatively tough to beat.

DARREN Randolph is to be offered a new contract by Charlton, marking the completion of a remarkable turnaround for the Irishman.
The 23-year-old was told he could leave The Valley in January after failing to dislodge number one Rob Elliot.
But an injury to Elliot in March gave Randolph his chance and he hasn’t looked back, playing the last 11 games of the season.
The academy graduate’s form has been enough to convince manager Phil Parkinson to hand him a new deal, a move which will fend off reported interest from Burnley.
“We will be offering a contract to Darren,” said Parkinson. “It’s been a good turnaround for him and he’s done very well.
“If he signs for us then he’ll be competing with Rob for the number one shirt. I’ve told them both to go away this summer and come back ready for a battle."
Really hope he stays, but it's a sensible move by the club either way - believe if we don't offer him a new contract of at least equal terms to his current one then he'd be available to other clubs for free, regardless of being under 24.
[cite]Posted By: Stebo[/cite]does this mean they've had their board meeting and Parky can get on with signing some players?
Well I guess we won't be signing anyone til we know the futures of our out of contract players have been resolved. We may have offered Randolph, Burton, Sodje etc new contracts, but doesn't mean they'll sign them.

There should be some areas that he knows he wants to strengthen regardless though (ledt midfield, centre back, striker?). He can get on with trying to sign those players and find replacements for others as and when contract talks fail.
Does seem like the board is a bit slow on the contract side. Wouldn't they have a business plan in place for both Championship and League 1. Then the minute they knew what division we were in they could start offering contracts to those players they wanted to keep. Maybe they did and all this stuff about waiting for the board to finalize the wage budget is smoke and mirrors.

There's no rush for the players though, from their point of view why not wait another 2/3 weeks and see if they get any other offers? Or even see if Charlton improve their offer.
Both decent keepers, neither i would imagine is on much money so i would keep them both. Sure you can't play them both but being young and hungry they will hopefully push each other on to better things.
