[cite]Posted By: johnnybev1987[/cite]Dean Bowditch being released by yeovil, didnt do too bad this season correct me if im wrong. also has looked good at ipswich in the past and would be regular goalscorer in my opinion
Why are Yeovil releasing him though?

Dunno mate, assuming finances first glance but im sure he was there top scorer(doesn't say much) or could be the same as forster fell out with manager
  • Bowditch played 30 times last season and scored 10, wikipedia said he signed one year deal july 2009. so assuming he is just out of contract, maybe they cannot afford to renew? or he has decided not to stay i dont know enough about him other then i think hes a good player
  • [cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Does no one wants to keep Basey or Stavrinou? With the lower budget Basey is ideal as 2nd choice left back and as a versatile player, while Stavrinou might replace Spring if he won't take a wage cut.

Are we assuming Burton will go?

Burton will go if he gets a better offer. He has always been something of a journeyman.

Basey definitely has something to offer and should be offered a new deal for moral as well as football reasons.

I don't see his longterm future at full back though. Centre half or centre midfield even left midfield with a pacy Yougalike full back alongside.

Not sure about Stav. Yes Ebbsfleet rated him it seems but they got relegated so how effective was he at that lower level in reality? I've never seen him play so cannot express an opinion for myself.
  • Agree about Basey's position, I think centre back might suit him. Got the build for it, and could see him passing it out even better than Llera. Central midfield not sure he's quite good enough, not sure what, just something missing.

tackling? and then engine? think he would do a job as the defensive midfielder but will not get about and do aswell as semedo

More going forward and yeah probably getting about the pitch. Just feel centre back would suit him more.
  • agree about Basey - he could retrain as a CD or even a DM. it's the same with moo2kill, he doesn't make a good RB, but it's hard to think where else could he play.
  • Can anyone throw any light on Stavrinou?

As I said above I've not seen him so cannot express an opinion. I only know what he looks like via a process of elimination of photos in the programme!

Is he yet another lightweight Charlton midget or does he have some physical presence? Is he a purely defensive midfielder or does he offer something going forward? Is he quick, slow or average?

I have seen him a few times, he's really a pure defensive midfielder. Tidy simple passing, I'd say average pace. Weakness is his lack of presence and in the air. Good attitude, typically good work rate, plays for the team etc like a lot of defensive midfielders.

Got a few quotes from an Ebbsfleet fan (their researcher for the Football Manager games), have posted them on here before.

Back in December after 3/4 games-
Very comfortable sitting in front of the defence, he has given our central midfielders a more attacking licence, something that we have been lacking all season and in my view, his introduction has been pivotal to our turn around in fortunes over the last couple of games and our ability to create better goalscorring opportunities. He is tidy in possession and distribution. He lacks strength (something I'm sure he can improve on) and is ineffective in the air, which is hardly surprising given his size. He shows excellent work rate and doesn't seem to have had any problems fitting into our team.

You're right, he probably isn't ready to be thrown into your first team at the moment (barring an injury crisis) and I think unfortunately perhaps his stature may ultimately determine where he ends up, but he does have many admirable qualities, particularly for a defensive midfielder.
    February-
Very consistent. Seems to be getting more combative with every game. Still keeps everything neat and simple, nothing expansive.

I have actually witnessed him having two attempts on goal now too! Both on around the edge of the area; one was sliced well wide the other was struck well, skimmed along the ground at pace but unfortunately a comfortable save for the keeper.
    March-
Yes he has been consistent throughout. Plays with more confidence now and rarely makes mistakes. Sitting in front of the centre backs is undoubtedly his best position. We have tried him further forward as a central midfielder and although can do an admirable job, is no where near as effective
April, first bit is about his goal-
Yeah it literally was a tap in, but was the result of a well worked counter attack. Stav was excellent again on Saturday, he has been getting up and down the pitch a lot more recently.

He was also named our 'Supporters Young Player of the Year' on Saturday which is testament to how well he has been playing and how well he is appreciated here.
  • It is who ever will take the lowest wages, lets not dream of Keeping any of the out contract players. I do not see any of them taking a 75% pay cut.
Next years team will be school boys and over aged has beens plus the spongers on the clubs wage bill who they can not get rid of.

  • Would want to keep Burton, Dailly, Sodje and Basey. This is all such a shame. Parky was so close to having a very good first eleven. I think we just lacked goals from midfield (discounting Bailey). Parky will earn his money next year if he can bring in the right fringe players. You never know we might end up with our own non-league Austin.
