Wages could be a stumbling block for Forster irrespective of whether or not we think a 36 year old striker is good enough to sign permanently.
Personally I would lean to not signing him not because I don't rate him, I do with the right players around him, but he is a striker who needs a good service from midfield. He won't create much himself.
Our midfield is likely to be decimated so how creative in reality will it be? Our strikers will have to forage off scraps or create for themselves.
We need a striker like Lisbie in my view although hopefully with a better strike rate than superKev!
If I was to take a punt I might put Wagstaff in the gym over the summer to build up some upper body strength and then try him through the middle. He appears to have an eye for goal and could possibly play off a striker like Akpo.

Regardless of how skint we are, we're surely still going to be amongst the better payers in this division.

Probably but so are Brighton which is where he was.
At 36 will he play 46 games? Ok Dailly surpassed expectations but he is a defender. I reckon Parky will be cautious about blowing a large part of his budget on a 36 year old striker.

That's a good point Len actually. Who knows, we might pick up a winger with a good cross and eye for a pass, but someone like Lisbie who can create a chance for himself would be useful. When did we last have a striker like that? Probably Lisbie!
Wagstaff did play up front sometimes for the u18s. Would be an option if we ended up with enough midfielders and only a few strikers by August. I'd imagine they'll get him to work on his strength anyway.

Varney arguably, although not as effective as Lisbie in my view, but he was as bad as Lisbie in front of goal when he was with us anyway.
as we need to look at cheap buys, might be worth checking out Nathan Fisher from Chester le Street, and he has managed to score 41 goals this season (35 from 26 games) ... it's a risk but might be worth a punt
They've given him a two year deal. Whether anyone thinks we've missed out and made a mistake or not, he is surely not worth risking a two year contract on.
Agree 2 years is a long contract for anyone in L1 especially at 36 odd when there is a small chance for the 2nd year we could be in the Champ which may be too much for Forster. No doubt he will score goals there but surely we can do better or at least younger with more potential.
We need someone with a bit more pace aswell, Forster in his time at Charlton was at times forced to run the channels which is not really his game.
Last year I remember being disappointed about Murty going to the Saints, but when Parky signed Richardson I could see why.Forster might have been good as an impact sub but not much else in my view. a 46 game season is too much to ask.
I suspect it was the second year of the contract which turned his head , he also had a spell there earlier in his career. At 36 Brentford are taking a big risk.
However, I would take that risk to keep Christian Dailly.
[cite]Posted By: ColinTat[/cite]Signed for Brentford rather than us for bigger money, back in 93 - or about then me memory fails. They got the best then, I think we have now.
I was gutted at the time as I was sure that he was a striker that would have been very effective for us. In my occassional trips to the Priestfield he'd been the only good player I'd seen in about 4-5 years; since they'd sold Gavin Peacock. And in that time Gillingham offered up some of the most banal football I've ever seen.... I'd even rather watch our hilariously poor 2008-2009 team, at least there was plenty of pathos in that.

There's a Morrisons in Welling but I doubt they'd find it.

Just my opinion.

on a 1 yr deal I would have said yes please, two years and I would have said no.

Obviously ....... Brentford have signed Forster as a replacement.
