The only way next season we will have a shot at top six is if we have a frontman who scores 20 plus goals, all the top 7 bar us had that this year with average teams on less wages being paid, so when we lose the better players in the summer we will need that type of striker, hopefully we can get one on loan but without it top six will be very hard.
i feel any manc or scouse scraps coming our way could be a bonus. when you look at the so called 'strikers' we've bought over recent seasons surely some goal hungry reserve team players have to be a better bet if ferguson and the likes can see them as a prospect. at least their wages shouldnt be an issue.
id love to see charlton set a trend and introduce their own wage cap consistent with their resources and stick to it. if your a pro and you want to play football in front of 15k plus come to the valley. if your also pro and would rather play in front of 5k and be paid double, fill your boots. lets kick ego's into touch and bring back club loyalty and real pride in the shirt and playing for a club you respect.

Southampton, Peterborough, Brighton, Huddersfield, Swindon/Millwall, Charlton, Colchester, MK Dons, Notts County and Wednesday
Charlton are only there because we're Charlton fans. I'm not sure about Peterborough or MK Dons either.
There will probably be a surprise team in there. Swindon this year, Millwall and Peterborough last year, Carlisle the year before that. Picking two names from nowhere in particular, I'll plump for Brentford and Oldham as two possibilities.
[cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]let's see how parky gets on with a budget more in line with the rest of the division next year , he got us relegated with ease which was a monster failure , he failed to get us promoted which to me is another failure maybe third time lucky!
Blimey, oohaah, why don't you just top yourself and get it over with.
"He got us relegated". Hmm, yes he did, with more than a little help from his friends.
"he failed to get us promoted which is another failure to me"
Did you forecast promotion at the beginning of the campaign then?
If you cannot see any redeeming features for Parky in this years campaign then I can only foresee years of joyless whinging ahead of you, mate ;-)
Notts County are ready to implode, no chance of making a mark especially as Cotterill is off. They were unreliable before him and I wouldn't be surprised if they get relegated straight back down.
Plymouth Argyle haven't had 20,000 since the sixties. They struggle to attract players down there, and they have a burdensome wage bill with a lot of dross on it.
Wednesday should compete but you have to say there's nothing in their team that points to a quick turn around. They'll be down for a few years.
Millwall won't be here, whilst Swindon should compete with Paynter up top and using the Austin money coupled with their backers.
Peterborough who knows? They seem to sign every lower league player with a goal, you'd think Johnson will work it out but they're short of a stable king.
If we sign Dailly, Johnnie Jackson and Deon Burton along with competitive league one aggressive players we may have a chance. It'll come down to our second string, something that Parky can't sign big names from the div above. Millwall's squad took the pis out of ours this season, nearly all their second string had more bite than ours
I see Wednesday,Southampton,Huddersfield,Charlton,Millwall (if they don't go up) as being the main teams in the race,I think Swindon may need to go up on Saturday or risk losing their key assets rendering themselves as mid table fodder for next season but then again........Someone else suggested Brentford and I agree with that- as dark horses they look potentially good and finished the season strongly.
Not sure about Peterborough, the Johnson effect could really work for them but then again it may not. I'm not sure Plymouth will be a great threat either. Other contenders could be Brighton and possibly Mk Dons and it all depends on what Notts County we get, they could be right up there or they could struggle- it all depends on the state of their finances.
If we keep a good core of our team and add that all elusive 20+ striker I believe Charlton can have a say in this league and I reckon the rest of the league will see us as a threat too.
Swindon if they don't go up, will definitely hang around. Both Paynter and Austin will stay as they owe Wilson for bringing them this far - plus the backers of Swindon have HUGE plans for the club - they are seriously loaded.

I agree with you, but it's a big "if" isn't it?
Crucial to try and keep hold of Dailly, Semedo and Burton in the spine, I think.
As you say, we desperately need a striker worthy of the name and also key will be a creative spark from somewhere if, as expected, Reid and Sam aren't here in August.

So Parkinson got 84 points and you are saying that he has failed. However at the start of the season you were saying that you wouldn't touch us at 70 points.
Let's step back and look at the season from an outsiders point of view. The bookies expected us to get less than 70 points this season. We got 14 points more than expected.

after making the mistake of buying our points at 65.5 last year (yep even i get sucked into being a rose tinted fool sometimes) i'm not gonna touch us this year but the fact millwall are above us according to the bookies shows how far we have fallen ...thanks for the great times curbs
[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]Also have a very good manager IMHO in Poyet.
Probably, but we'll see won't we. Only takes half a poor season to change opinions. So many managers were "one of the best young managers in the country", and a few years later they're seen as very average.

Ah yes, there was a Mr Parkinson hailed as a great prospect in his time at Colchester... whatever happened to him?
[cite]Posted By: Chunes[/cite]Also, I think it was Scoham who posted a link to a story that pointed out just how bad the quality of Liverpool's youth system currently is.
Anyone we get from the Shelvey deal will be a bonus, I'm not expecting anyone. Even then, I wouldn't assume they'll be better than what we have at 18/19.
aiming for the top six is abit of a blow but at the same time I dont really fancy administration. Does anyone know roughly how bad our debt actually is now?

Not to mention that a significant proportion of our fans take to screaming at promising young loanees for not beating every player on the pitch with their first touch of the ball. Even if we did secure a promising youngster, they'd probably be intimidated out of performing and be sent back regressed rather than progressed.

Any stato's out there know of any good ones to take on?

I don't expect a single thing to come of that. Like our deals with Valencia and Inter Milan. Waste of time, load of tosh.
Also, I think it was Scoham who posted a link to a story that pointed out just how bad the quality of Liverpool's youth system currently is.
There it is. They've not really brought anyone through since Gerrard, Carragher and Owen. Mellor and Warnock two that came through but didn't make it at Liverpool.
