Reid

edited May 2010 in General Charlton
Anyone know the length of his contract at Sheff Utd?

Think he'd be a great perm signing. Someone who has settled with us and could play at Champ level.

Maybe we could do a player + cash deal if a fee is involved but I definitely think we should sign him.

Comments

  • Out of contract this summer, really would like to see him join on a perm deal.
  • Think he should be playing championship if his fitness is sorted out, but if we do go for him what a signing

Valley btw cash + player is not going to work when we have no cash unless you meant the other way

We don't have any players either.

lol way to rub it in ;o)
  • Id swap him for Sam.

same as, unfortunately Sam is looking most likely to leave for me him and bailey.
  • I meant the other way round.

Bailey for £500k and Reid, for example.

Sam's out of contract so Sheff Utd, or any other team, wouldn't have to pay a penny for him.
  • oh course, i keep forgetting sam's out of contract.
  • I thought Reid had a couple more years to run on his Sheff Utd deal??
  • Not a fan of Reid really, whilst i think he was one of the only few that could cause problems this season, in most of his games i barely noticed him and he would want wages that we probably can't afford.

  • think Reid still has at least another year his contract.

unless they're willing to let him join us for free or we can work out some sort of deal where we don't have to give them any money right away, it's not going to happen.
  • Sheff Utd signed him for free and he has hardly featured and has been farmed out on loan. If he isn't in their plans they can hardly demand a fee and may be happy to get his wages off their books.
  • I like Reid. When Bailey leaves he will be able to give us more balance on the pitch. We attempted to acommodate Bailey way too much last season. We wanted to fit in Semedo (rightly so!) Racon and Bailey, which forced Bailey out to the left. A natural left footer would give us balance down that side.

Hopefully we will get a decent fee for Bailey and then sign Simeon Jackson (i keep harping on about it) and then maybe use the rest for some free transfer wages.
  • Youre kidding yourself there dizzle.

Whatever fees - decent or not - we get in for our players this summer, none of it will be being spent on new players!

We won't be spending money on any players until we are promoted or get a new owner i'm afraid.

    Ditto
  • I hope what Large says becomes reality. I would love to see Reid here next season.
  • I am just trying to be positive! lol
  • local boy and sheff utd might be willing to let him go but he might also want more in wages than we could or should pay. And just cos Utd got him for free doesnt mean theyll let him go for free.

I like him. Real pace, works hard defensively, blows hot and cold like most wingers sometimes but I would be delighted if he stayed
  • My brother, who is a London Black Cab driver, has just text saying he is waiting to pick up the Sheffield United chairman. He says he is going to grill him on the Reid situation.

Got a report back. The chairman likes Reid and thinks he has not been given a decent chance with a run of games. He says Sheff United are bringing over a few Aussie players this summer and Charlton are one of the clubs he hopes to send them out on loan to.
  • jesus - Sheff utd's nursery team.
  • I like Reid, he's a decent player who excites when on the ball.

Perhaps we can borrow him on a season long loan?
  • It would be pretty good if we could get him, he always looks like creating something or at the very least putting the opposition fullback on the back foot, I think he would probably want more in wages than we could offer though
  • I'm sure I read somewhere that Reid is a deptford boy and would like to move back south. If Sam goes as expected I'd guess Reid is on less than Sam??
  • Pretty sure Reid said in an interview a few weeks back that he would love to join Charlton for next season IF we were promoted. Can't see him joining us in League 1 as I reckon he will get offered a chance by another Championship team, also think his wages would be a problem and we would not stand a chance if Sheff Utd want a fee.
