Were Charlton good enough to go up, or just not quite?

  • Really do not think there has been an outstanding team!... Norwich had a dodgy start, leeds looked like runaway winners till there cup run,We looked liked we were nailed on for 2nd place etc etc......

As an earlier poster cited we had a squad that should have produced more as a team!. Part of that is down to Parky. Injuries well they alway's play a part, and a lack of a goal scorer I think cost us, seems obvious, but it alluded us!
  • Not quite good enough because we nearly always looked like we might concede and rarely looked like we'd score enough to make a difference. For a promotion season you need most of your squad to have blinders....think Kiely, Powell, Hunt, Kinsella, Rufus, Stuart, Newton, Robinson, Bowen, Brown etc....whereas this season only Dailly, Youga (part) Semedo and maybe Burton. Other players did well but weren't quite consistent enough. Failure to beat the likes of Tranmere, Orient, Brighton, Norwich post Xmas, plus all the draws (4-4 with Millwall being critical) pointed to a lack of class in both penalty areas and only 2 goals out of a centre-midfield pairing of Semedo & Racon was woeful. Having said all of that, it was far more engrossing than any of the previous three seasons and the final game was very nearly a classic. Overall I think the team has played pretty well (at times brilliantly) and there have been plenty of enjoyable games. I would love to see the majority of the players stay with one or two decent additions, because I think the spirit has been there for all to see and the team has the potential to go one step better. Sadly, the liklehood is the squad will be broken up and we'll have to start again from scratch.
  • Na we were good enough to go up. we would have finished bottom of the champ if we had though.
  • Not good eneough in one department. Strikers. To be fair Mendonca, Bent and a good season from Andy Hunt apart we've never had a 20 goal a season striker.

Norwich's top two scorers scored 41 league goals between them
    Southamptons - 44
    Leeds - 40
    Swindon - 45
    Milwall - 33
    Huddersfields - 32

Bailey and Burton scored 25 goals between them, we were the 7th highest scorers in the league... not good enough to make the play offs.

A lucky punt on a non league striker or maybe Forster in earlier and we might have got up.
