Bailey

edited May 2010 in General Charlton
So he made a bad choice pass going forward (which we were unlucky enough to concede from) and hit a bad penalty in the shootout. I've seen some comments absolutely slagging him off on this site since tonight's game. Bailey's been quality the last two years, and tonight even though not everything was going for him he had an alright game, and looked well up for a battle especially in the first half. I'd be gutted if we lost him over the summer.

  • End of the day he and all the rest of our half decent players are gone, end of.
  • prepare to be gutted. he's about the one player we have worth anything

Yep thats the difference in a trip to wembley, Championship football, and maybe a little chink of light on the finances front.

He wont care if someone else is paying his wages next year
  • I find it almost ironic that the last we see of him in a Charlton shirt is him rolling on the ground crying!

He cost us massively tonight - simple as that

if we could keep one out of Bailey, Racon and Semedo I know who I'd pick with no hesitation at all. Jose every time

    I can but dream
  • Felt for him tonight, i think at times this season hes been kept in the team when it wasnt necessarily for the best, but you cant doubt his desire to win. He had a poor game tonight though.

Another one here dreaming of keeping Semedo.

If there's one player here that just might look decent in the Prem, it's Semedo.
  • Bailey's reaction to Llera's sending off rang alarm bells for me - it looked like he'd totally lost the plot, and with 5 mins of extra time to go I had a horrible feeling that if anyone was going to miss it was going to be him. His passion and heart has been a great plus this season, but he really needs to learn to keep his head when things are going pearshaped.

Would love to keep Semedo. Can't see it happening though.
  • What's the situation with Semedo's contract? Would we be able to get a decent fee for him if (when) he goes?
  • Bailey had a bad night but has been a great signing for the club and is good enough to play in the CCC although probably not the Premiership.

If he goes then I wish the bloke well, he has always given his best and you can't ask for more than that.
  • Another year to go, same with Racon and unfortunately Yassin, Fleetwood and McLeod.

Could look for a fee of 200k then possibly? Or is that optimistic
  • No idea, he's worth whatever someone is willing to pay really.

I'd like to think we could get closer to £1m like we did for Hudson and Varney, but I suppose he doesn't have the reputation that Hudson in particular seems to have. Same with Bailey, bigger reputation than Semedo, but I think Semedo is the better player.
  • Somehow I'm hoping we can keep Semedo... a distant dream but hey ho

I reckon Semedo would be very willing to stay. I would love to think he could be a modern day charlton hero. Someone we can look back on in twenty years time and say "remember Semedo he would be in my all time charlton greats team!".

Jose wont stay... its an injustice for him not to be playing in the prem...

Dont know how to quote but its up there...

NB has been cocking up those passes just inside the oppos half all season. The goal wasnt his fault because of the laughable defending but he has been doing it all season.

I feel for him missing his pen but the was the one player who i really thought would miss. Given the ego/heart of the bloke i knew he'd take one but pens like that need a more level head.

    Bailey will leave
Semedo (i hope he doesnt) i think he'll leave
Sam (again i hope he doesnt) but I think he'll leave. He's given good years to cAFC fair play if he wants to.
We wont keep Reid. This one really hurts as he provides a real threat going forward which we have a total lack of when he doesnt play.
Burton, he'll retire wont he? Seems to be getting more than his fair share of knocks.

What we need next year is a consistent first team from the off.
  • I felt for him too. Thought he was better in the middle. Yes he made a few mistakes but on the whole 100% committed. I know he doesn't want to leave but I also know that if a decent offer is made then he will be sold because of the financial situation - which will only get worse now!
  • Ppl have got to get to grips and admit bailey hasnt set league one alight this year like we thought he would! He has been a good player for us but he has 75% the time this season been poor, 13 league goals is a good return for a midfielder but at the end of the day how many of his poor passes have cost us this season and i've only seen him boss a midfield this season once and that was against MK Dons in November.
  • I must be in the minority but I think Semedo will stay.

Bailey will be off, Sam is out of contract, can't see many willing buyers for Racon after this season.

Then again last season we all thought we'd be lucky to keep Shelvey/Bailey/Semedo/Racon and we kept them all.
  • [cite]Posted By: I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY[/cite]75% the time this season been poor

Are you joking mate ? How many games have you been to ? You really think Bailey had 36 poor games this season ?

I think the players I'd like to keep most from our current squad are Reid and Semedo.

Everyone expects these players to leave but if they have decent contracts with us then another team will have to match their wages (unless they take a pay cut). There isn't that much cash flying around football down here so there is a chance we may retain some of our better earners because they have no where else to go.

  • Surely Pardew will sign him
  • SE9.

    Good point and i agree.

If we have to let players go.

Reid stay and sam go? yes.
Jose stay and Bailey go? yes again.
  • any player we have that will make us any money will be sold in the summer.
  • I'd have thought if we wanted a buyer, selling everyone in the squad with any value wouldn't be a good move as then that buyer would have to find money to buy replacements.

Or maybe we'll sell anyone with any value in the squad to keep our head above water but then we'd struggle at the bottom of League One facing possible relegation still in debt potentially just delaying the inevitable.

The board has some tough decisions other the next few months.
  • hes always been a truly terrible passer of the ball. tonight, it's cost us, and cost us dear
  • Easy target, anyone can misplace a pass and as we've seen anyone can miss a penalty there is always one, there has to be
  • He had the bollocks to take a penalty, and for that alone I won't have a go at him.
  • I thought it was fairly poor that the man with the luminous boots can wear them and strut around the place but left it to the likes of Christian and Frazer to stand up there.
