The Stables, Danson Park

edited May 2010 in General Charlton
Has anyone actually had a good experience in this place? I have been a few times over the years and have always found the service to be awful. Saturday night was the worst ever - service slow, staff entirely incompetent, big lump of plastic in my meal etc etc . If this place could get it right, during the summer months it would make a killing. However, on Saturday it felt like a place which management had given up with .............

  • Only time I bother to go there these days is a lunchtime during the week in winter when it is not packed ... otherwise forget it
  • I tried years ago but have not been back after a couple of poor attempts. what about the boat house?

similar experience in the Pilot yesterday for a roast - it will be the last time i go there for a sunday dinner for a long time.
  • Yep went there about 10 years back for a bit of grub, told it was an hour wait, and there was a queue as long as my dong just for a beer (massive queue before any smart arse comments lol) so didnt go back!! The other weekend i went for a walk round Danson Park with me mrs and Daisy andthought i would just pop in for a pint and maybe a bowl of chips, waited in a queue for 20 mins just to get a beer where they had no london pride on or any ale for that matter, once in the queue i aint wasting 10 mins standing inn it only to walk out, i wanted my pint, so i got a staropramen a coke, no chips (and hour wait just for a bowl of stinking chips) so just 2 bags of crisps and the bill came to almost £9!! Couldnt believe it, people were walking out left right and centre, and this was all at about 3pm on a sunday arvo and the weather was dull but no rain!!

Pony place, pony staff, pony queue (actually a line up queue not just stand at the bar and wait like normal pubs) pony place and never will i go there again!! Knobs!

Well it is called the stables!
  • Khans ,Blackheath yesterday . Only me and the Mrs in the place. Food ok though.
  • Shame, could be lovely.

Went Saturday to the Miller & Carter at Hall Place (what was the Jacobean Barn). Only your run of the mill steakhouse, but its been done really nice and the food was good. Been a couple of times now and can't fault it.

Make you right, only been there once but was impressed.
  • Miller & Carter is quality cheap grub. Will never go to the Stables as a few of my mates worked there when we were at school. Some unhealthy stories.

We went to the M & C on the first weekend it opened in 2007 and the whole experience was awful. I complained and got a meal for 8 including drinks to the value of £200 by way of compensation. Have been there loads of times since and would recommend the place to anyone for quality and VFM. Had the same experience as 1905 at the stables and would never go back there ever again.

  • Stables is fine if a weekday, weekend forget it. Nags head in welling and hungry horse charlton decor might not be the ritz but can't fault the food and the price, hungry horse or fox under the hill as often called does some brilliant dishes at the mo, jd ribs and these mental massive scewer kebab type things are lush, jesus getting hungry now.
