  • [cite]Posted By: Oaky white[/cite]From a neutrals perspective i thought you were fortunate to come away only 2 - 1 down after the chances they squandered in the first half, the second half was much better and you will turn it round at home. Good luck in the final and look forward to playing you again next season.
That's how I see it, but as Steve said we have problems scoring.
  • Seen the first goal, Sam should have kept on the winger and Borrowdale should have won the header. Both at fault.
  • [cite]Posted By: northstandsteve[/cite]mooney has more movement than any other forward at this club, i hope he dont play monday cause ive had enough of listening to it now.Hope we dont sign coz he aint ever going to be accepted. He tries his bollocks off i wish i could say the same of others.

I find the irony of this priceless. You berate Sam at every possible opportunity but then slag off anyone who doesn't like Mooney.

How about we just give the best support we can to ALL our players? Constructive criticism is fine, but frankly I'm sick of hearing vitriolic abuse being aimed at our players whoever they may be.
  • I was thinking for the first goal could sodje not stuck a boot at it and attempt to get it over the bar?

Mooney tries Sam don't end of
  • I'm sorry Steve, but that's cobbblers. Don't know how long you've been going to the Valley, but I'd imagine you have at least been around to see Thomas, Ambrose and Rommedahl - 3 wingers who were all much much lazier in defence than Sam. He was trying last night but it wasn't coming off for him, although I do wish just once in a while he'd just get on and get at the full back instead of always opting to go for the twisty turny run. He was at fault for the goal, but that was because he switched off, not because he's lazy. Do you seriously believe he thought 'Nah, I can't be bothered to track that back, it'll be alright'? Of course he didn't because if he behaved like that Parky would have shipped him out ages ago, because it's that sort of selfish attitude that has seen Mcleod/Dicko etc frozen out.
  • watch the goal then mate watch lloyd in the build up,dont bother about the ball just watch lloyd it is shockin. Anyway i have been goin about 2 years so dont really remember the others.
  • Agree with Exiled. Plenty of times this season Sam tracked back well. He doesn't have the drive and energy that Wagstaff does but he offers more balance between attack and defence than any of Thomas, Ambrose, Rommedahl or Bouazza.

Sam would have got the blame for giving the ball away like Racon did, just as he would have for not winning the header like Borrowdale. He made a mistake but he wasn't the only one for the first goal.

Second goal was worse IMO, really not sure why we only had one player back. Wasn't worth the risk and I can't remember us doing that all season in the games I've seen.
  • well the management could see the situation right in front of their eyes.Anyway what was Rommendahl like ?
  • The opposite of brave, never seen a player avoid challenges like Rommedahl. Makes Sam looks brave and aggressive. A lot quicker than Sam but that's about it.

  • oh what about thomas what was he like ?
  • Behave yourself Steven
  • that chap Kishishev I heard he was a committed but was he any good. And i wish i had seen that Parker chap.

I have and as I said in my last post, I agree it's very poor, but I believe Sam switched off and made a miistake. I don't think it was down to lazy negligence.
  • Is there anywhere where highlights of this game are available? Don't have Sky and it seems there is no Football League show on the Beeb tonight.
  • truth is I dont think we are very good..... against those two, not bad strikers, we were ragged, sodje with a total lifesaver, and then the post from three yards which was as bad as Kalous miss... only deons bravery and awareness kept us in it.....

Unless we play very differnetly on Monday we arent going up...

    its almost too much ...

please can we have a 4-0 drubbing of Swindon........
  • Sam's joint-top of our assist table with 10 this season. Along with Burton on 10. And 4 goals scored. And Burton gets constantly lauded for his creativity and hold-up play.

Sam can't be that rubbish with that record.
  • Sam must look good in training, because he promises so much and delivers so little.

Did you just ignore the post above?
  • The thing that has been bothering me since last night, is how Racon could be outpaced running back for their second by a player running with the ball. That amazes me. Was like he was running on sand.

  • Sorry 10 assist's in 40 odd games, is that a good return from such a great play maker? So I stand by my comment that L.Sam must look good in training.

Better than every other player in the team though. And he's not a playmaker, he's a League 1 winger.
  • Sccaaaaappppeee ggggooooaaaaattttt.

Would make a lot more sense if you lot picked on someone who hadn't added 14 goals to our tally from the wing this season.

    As a comparison
    Player Club TOTAL
    Jon-Paul McGovern	Swindon Town 16
    Gary Roberts Huddersfield 15
    Wesley Hoolahan Norwich City 13
    Jason Puncheon Southampton 13
    Richard Lambert Southampton 12
    Elliott Bennett Brighton 11
    Chris Hackett Millwall 11
    Ryan Harley Exeter City 11
    Grant Holt Norwich City 11
    Anthony Pilkington	Huddersfield 10
    Simon Lappin Norwich City 10
    Andrew Welsh Yeovil Town 10
    [b]Lloyd Sam Charlton 10
    Deon Burton Charlton 10[/b]

So yes 10 isn't great, but it's pretty good, especially for an inconsistent player. Also shows he's perhaps not the most talented winger in the division as suggested. Under performs at times, but we shouldn't expect 20+ assists either, he's just not that good.

Like most if not all teams, Swindon knew he was one of our main threats and didn't let him get any easy crosses in, had 2 Swindon players around him most of the time when he got the ball.

    And our team assists

    http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Assists/0,,10794~200910267~25,00.html
    Player FL1	CUPS	TOTAL
    Lloyd Sam 10	0	10
    Deon Burton 10	0	10
    Jonjo Shelvey 5	0	5
    Grant Basey 5	0	5
    Nicky Bailey 3	1	4
    Frazer Richardson	4	0	4
    Therry Racon 3	0	3
    David Mooney 2	0	2
    Jose Vitor Semedo	1	0	1
    Luke Holden 0	1	1
    Matthew Spring 1	0	1
    Nicky Forster 1	0	1
    Kyel Reid 1	0	1
    Kelly Youga 1	0	1
    Sam Sodje 1	0	1
    Izale McLeod 0	1	1
    Miguel Angel Llera	1	0	1

    FL1 = Coca-Cola Football League One
CUPS = Johnstone's Paint Trophy South

Shelvey and Basey have the benefit of taking set pieces, so Sam's are probably all from open play.

Might I add to that, 10 assists delivering balls from the wing to strikers who aren't exactly famed for scoring a lot of goals.
  • Someone needed to just take the yellow on the second goal, but alas not.
  • having watched the game back I'd like to apologise to Mooney for calling him pony. But I can't. And he hasn't even got one trick.
  • Amazing - yet ANOTHER thread with people either bitching on at their particular scapegoat or devending their favourites with very little objectivity anywhere.

    I blame Kim Grant.

I'd say stats are as objective as it gets!
