Swindon by train

Anyone going to Swindon by train and if so what would you suggest the best route to be ? I had a quick look and the train journey seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

  • Takes an hour from Paddington to Swindon straight through doesn't it? Thought it was pretty straight forward!
  • i looked on thetrainline earlier.
    £11.50 single going out lunchtime.
£7.50 single coming back. last train from swindon is at 23.15.
gonna make sure i get match tickets before booking though.
  • Yeah mate, paddington to swindon direct
  • Going to get a train straight from paddington after work. I'll be on the 17:45. Thankfully will be meeting the family up there so will grab a lift in the car on the way back!
  • £12.50 return for me ;)
  • Rather than start another thread, does anyone know how long it would take to drive to Swindon or how long on the coach from Eltham area if they used the service in Feb?
  • I'm on the 16.00 up and the 22.31 back £24.50
  • If there is no traffic then should only take about 90 mins to drive max, not a bad drive round the M25 and then onto the M4.
  • cheers nich!

Get a travelcard and get a return from paddington. Or for me, instead of going to New Eltham, i'm gonna get the tube from North Greenwich

Make sure you leave early, as the M25 on a friday after 4pm is a car park. Mainly between j/t's 11 and 15 and onto the M4.

When going down to the in-laws in Cheltenham (via Swindon) we always avoid this bit - come off at jct 12 (M3) and then go through Bracknell to join the M4 just before Reading. Usually miss a lot of traffic...

If only you hadn't pulled those sickies at Comet you'd have afforded the extra £2!

Aside from that, something tells me the 10.28 will be a bit busy as everyone will just pile on that.
