Charlton's talented U13s achieved a major coup last week by pipping some high-profile Premier League rivals to the finals of a national competition.

In a six-team FA Premier League U13 national qualifying tournament at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on April 15th, the Addicks saw off the challenge of Arsenal and Chelsea as well as Southampton, Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace to seal a place in the finals at Birmingham City's St Andrews on May 9th.

tbf, most of our under 13's are currently in our 1st team squad, otherwise there would have been no competition.

You wanna keep an eye on them, I hear Tottenham have been sniffing around, I hope you've got them on a contract.

I heard the new born was the new Messi, no one's ever seen dribbling quite like it.

Beat West Brom 4-0, drew 1-1 with Blackburn in the final before losing on penalties. Our keeper even saved the first two penalties, get him on the bench for the play-off second leg?

Despite the disappointment, the performance augers well for the future, said assistant academy manager Steve Avory.

"The boys played excellently against West Brom, and it was a comprehensive victory," he said. "We didn't start too well in the final, but then got into the game and equalised about five minutes into the second half. We had Blackburn on the ropes after that, and although we played the better passing football, we couldn't finish them off and unfortunately the boys went down on penalties.

"It was a choker for the boys, but we won a lot of plaudits for the way we played our football."

Avory added: "It was a great experience for the boys. We won a lot of friends in the way we conducted ourselves on and off the pitch, and the boys will have learned a great deal from playing at St Andrews.

"Once again, it's an indication of the exciting young talent that we have got coming through, even at the lower ages. It augers very well for the future."
