Oldham Away - A Quandry...

edited April 2010 in General Charlton
My hand has been hovering over the buy button for Oldham away for about ten minutes now. If I buy it is it tempting fate too much? Will we then lose to both Exeter and Leeds?! I'm pretty poor at the moment and I'm not sure if I can afford three play-offs games on top of the leeds and oldham games...! To buy or not to buy?

(Also if anyone is driving to the Oldham game from Nottingham let me know! It might be nicer than the two or three changes on the train)

  • Hold off mate if i were you, I'm in the same boat re finances. Considering Exeter is a 3 figure job i'm going to have to play it by ear with potentially three long trips down south to fund.
  • if we lose to Exeter and Leeds we will probably need a result at Oldham to make the play offs. But even still.....

If we win and make second place it'll be celebration party time.

If we win and make the play offs it'll be celebration party time.

If we don't win and make the play offs it's be celebration party time.

If the results conspire against us and we don't make the play offs it'll be a wake and party time.

    I'd book the ticket.
    :)
  • I'm in Nottingham too, but no car, I'm afraid, and in the same situation re: finances and not sure whether to buy.

I'd say hold off for now. See how things stand. I don't think I'll go to Swindon if we face them in the playoffs, but anywhere else I would and would cost quite a bit.
  • Book it. 3 wins coming up and a party to last us into the Championship!

Oldham will roll over, their fans can join our party. They've got sod all to celebrate up there.

I wouldnt mind getting Swindon in the play-offs. It is a sh*thole tho.

From Nottingham with no car, broke, and with exams the next week, I really don't think I'll go. Even if it was a great place. Huddersfield, Leeds, even Millwall I'd go

From London the situation is a bit different
  • celebrating making the play offs? i expect that at least .
  • Don't think I'd go down to Swindon either, same situation as you IA though from Sheffield and already went down there this season and it costs an arm and a leg on the train.

Shame I won't think that rationally in three weeks time.
  • I'm deciding after the Leeds game,

If we beat Exeter we're absolutely guaranteed a play off.

Then if we lose vs Leeds that's it and I'll save the money for the away leg of the play off's
  • From the dates/times that people posted earlier if the away leg is the saturday at 12.15 we should hope and pray we do get Swindon. Don't want to play Millwall and don't want to have to get to Huddersfield/Leeds for a midday kick off!

What a day that would be tho if we beat or draw with Leeds/udders away in the first leg. Pissed and in the pub for the cup final!

I'm tempted to do that too, only thing is everyone might be thinking that and will we have enough tickets? And also, trains will be more expensive a week in advance...

Would love a bit of Leeds or Huddersfield early k/o from a personal biased perspective

Hudds especially, absolutely nothing to fear from them and a crowd that is tetchy at the best of times

We'll get enough, I think we've got something like 3k or more if we take the full allocation we've requested

Be a bit creative with the trains, Oldham is 20 mins from Manchester city centre by bus. Manchester is an hour from one of the cheapest/most reliable rail lines in the country (London STP --> Sheffield), buying 4 singles could save you a packet if the fares rocket.
  • I'm at Upton Park for the Kevin Mitchell fight the 15th as well, so could turn into a very messy day!
  • come on mitchell !!!!
  • Oldham have moved their season tickets holders from one of their stands, so if required we will get 3k as said above

    This.
  • Book it ...I have a feeling it will be a good day at Oldham ... I've got my tickets anyway.

Leeds took around 4500 there this season, I think there will be potential for more than 3000, whether we will need it is another question, regardless of the situation.

  • So, anyone driving up from Nottingham then? ;o)
  • Will have to be done now. There's a chance. That's good enough for me!
  • although Leeds may not win next week I expect them to pick up a point which will be enough to put us out of contention although it may let Millwall or Swindon in. Still thinking about it.
