[cite]Posted By: guinnessaddick[/cite]If we finish 3 rd or 4 th, we will play away on the Friday / Sat, if however we finish 5 th / 6th, we will have to play on Friday unless Millwall finish 5th/6th, then they have to play Fri and us Sat.
I've just spent 20 mins trying to work out all the permeatations andb just when I thought I'd cracked it I realised that explanation on the FL website makes no bloody sense at all.
Wait until 5pm Saturday and all will becomes clear - can't say I'm in any great rush to find out when Swindon, Hudds, Leeds and Millwall will be playing each other anyway.

sorted :-)
no - if we finish 6th the 1st and 2nd legs reverse because of the FA Cup final. But for some reason that doesn't apply to Millwall.
[cite]Posted By: Alex Wright[/cite]Play off first leg in a nutshell...
If we finish second, we go up.
If we finish 5th or 6th we will play at home on Friday unless Millwall finish 5th or 6th as well, in which case we play Away on Saturday
If we finish 4th we play away on Friday
If we finish 3rd we play away on Saturday.
Alex, shouldn't that be 'If we finish 5th or 6th we will play at home on Friday unless Millwall finish 5th or 6th as well, in which case we play Away Home on Saturday' ?
CAN THERE BE A PLAY-OFF GAME AT THE VALLEY ON SATURDAY MAY 15th?
If we finish 6th then match order is reversed, so the only way to play at The Valley on Saturday is for us to finish 5th, Millwall to finish 6th and Leeds to finish 2nd or 3rd. That means Millwall losing.
If Millwall lose then we can't win because that'd make us top 4, and we can't lose because then Millwall wouldn't be 6th.
Therefore we must draw and so we would remain with a goal difference of +21.
But Millwall's goal difference is currently +31 - so for us to draw and still finish above them means they have to lose by at least 10 goals to Swindon.
So just to clarify the Football League's stated postion, Charlton can only be at home on Sat 15th is Swindon beat Millwall by 10 (or more) clear goals! (and we draw at Oldham and Huddersfild win at Exeter)

no, if we are both due to be at home Millwall will play at home on Friday, our tie will be reversed and we will play away on Saturday.
[cite]Posted By: ValleyGary[/cite]thats not right AW. We cant finish 5th/6th and play away first leg, that wouldnt be fair to the team we play.
Salads got it....i think.
Hmmmmm
I thought it was too simple.
website does say 1 "Charlton and Millwall must a home 1st leg on Friday" and 2 "if Charlton and Millwall finish in 5th and 6th, and Charlton do not play Leeds (although it doesn't say why this should be an issue), Millwall play on Friday and Charlton play on Saturday."
So if scenario 2 happens and we and Millwall finish 5th and 6th Millwall play on Friday and we play on Saturday, then scenario 1 kicks in and we're away.

I guess it'll all be clear on Sunday
The police don't want Millwall to play at home on Saturday, they also don't want us at home to Leeds on Saturday. I think they would switch our game v leeds to leeds at home.
Sorry if this has already been stated but another problem with playing at The Valley or the New Den on the Saturday is that our stewards plus Millwall's will all be on duty at Wembley that afternoon .....
Just to confuse things more what i thought means was, as it states that if we finish 6th the order for both 1st and 2nd legs would reverse. I took that as meaning the 3rd v 6th match would be Friday and Monday, rather than Saturday and Tuesday.
But even then nothing makes sense.
But anyway, none of this matters. We're gonna finish 2nd anyway!!!

But what if we get Leeds?
Wait until 5pm Saturday and all will becomes clear - can't say I'm in any great rush to find out when Swindon, Hudds, Leeds and Millwall will be playing each other anyway.
So, we HAVE to play on Friday as the police don't want us to play on Sat due to a Wembley final (which is the other side of London)
BUT we can play on Sat if Millwall play on Friday.
So, if the above is true, we CAN play on Sat................so why say we can't !!!!!!!!
It actually makes no difference to me as I'll be thefre whichever day/night it is, but Sky & the Football league are a joke !!!!!!!!!
Let's go through all the options if we finish 5th .....
If we finish second, we go up.
If we finish 5th or 6th we will play at home on Friday unless Millwall finish 5th or 6th as well, in which case we play Away on Saturday
If we finish 4th we play away on Friday

Think they'll win at Exeter, we'll beat Oldham, Millwall will beat Swindon and Leeds will win at home.
Leaving the play off teams:
Millwall
Charlton
Huddersfield
Swindon
or stuwall
[quote][cite]Posted By: Valley11[/cite]I reckon we'll end up with Huddersfield.

if that happens then away to huddersfield on the friday night?
