Unusual Pic: 1978 Millwall v Ipswich

The coffin was used in a mock western gun battle staged prior to the match.

  • i remember fulham fans (about 200) bringing a coffin to selhurst park in a 2-0 victory in 1986 that helped us towards promotion as they were heading down the leagues(we'd beaten them 3-0 away a week earlier)
  • I was at the Millwall v Ipswich game. F.A. Cup 6th round if it's the same one. Ipswich battered them 6-1 I think and it was carnage throughout.
  • That was the game when Sir Bobby Robson said that Millwall fans should be birched or was it burned.....either way, I'm all for that!
  • The (old) Den:
    Millwall ?

Yeah, and they sang "Ernie Clay has f*cked it up again" all the way through the match.

Carnage indeed - wasn't the Den was closed for a while after this?
  • Sir Bobby said that flame throwers should be used on Millwall fans. Not as stupid as he sometimes pretended. I am sure Millwall also lost 6-1 at home to Ipswich in a pre-season friendly that year. I remember coming home as a 14 year old from Spurs that day on the bus when a drunken Millwall fan got on who had robbed a jewellers that afternoon. He showed us several trays of rings he had stolen. When I told him the Millwall score he said "no you silly c***, that was the pre-season score." He stumbled off the bus on the Old Kent Road looking slightly more sober and less happy than when he'd got on.
  • Brings a whole new meaning to the term, "box to box player".
