Charlton vs. Norwich - Poll, Teams and News and Views from around the globe...

And so we move on to game 2 out of 5 of the “Must Win Five”. After a battling, ugly but ultimately satisfying performance and result against the Colchester Hoofers, the game against league leaders Norwich is likely to be a whole different ball game. With the champions-elect stuttering of late, picking up a draw against MK Dons and losing to lowly Leyton Orient, Charlton need to take advantage and pick up another 3 points.

It’s not in our own hands but all the players, management and us as fans can do is take the clichéd view of “one-game-at-a-time” and continue to do our job and pick up the three points. If we do that from now until the end of the season then we may very well end up in 2nd place.

The team on Tuesday night was set up to deal with the physical demands that Aidy Boothroyd’s team generally put on you, but I fully expect a shift around in personnel and approach on Saturday. I would obviously stick with the back 4 we have but then change it up in midfield. Racon for me has been a passenger for too long and although him and Jose seem to get on well I think a sacrifice needs to be made to allow Bailey to move back into the centre allowing us to reintroduce Reid on the left to add some real natural width on both wings.

Can we play a front line that with a combined age can claim a pension? I’m not entirely sure it would work but with Parky declaring Deon fit we may well see a new partnership up front. Either way, I don’t think Akpo will start.

What a tough game this could be, but what a result if we pull it off. I think we’re going to surprise ourselves and walk out with a 3-1 win.

Take a look at the Run-In Thread for all other fixtures.

If Hoolahan is also out along with Holt then i think we have a real chance. I'd play Reid out left, move Bailey into the middle and drop Racon. Cant see us scoring 2 in a game atm let alone against Norwich.....so im gunning for a 1-0 win. Oh yeah, and play Burton if fit alongside Forster.

We have done well of late against Narwich so im going for us to win 2-0nil, we was unlucky at there place not to win but for their dodgy last minute goal and we outplayed them imo. Also they are not in best of form so hope we take advantage and get the 3 points to put pressure on the other teams going for 2nd spot

    Team:
    Randolph
Richardson, Dailly, Sodje, Borrowdale ( Back four automatic at the mo with recent form) edited- as borrow is going suppose well have to test out Matt Fry
    Sam, Semedo, Bailey, Reid
Burton, Forster, if burton unfit go for akpo again as we seem to be playing long balls alot and he deals slightly better then mooney

Dont want to see us 4-5-1 or even 4-4-1-1 at home i think we should be the team attacking and put pressure on the away team, unfortunately dont think shelvey would suit this game from the off and bring him of the bench if scores are tied going into last 30mins, Mooney also to come on last 20 and waggy for Sam/reid whover tires more

    Come on you Reds!!!
  • Hope to see us have a real go at them, attacking and probing. If we sit back against this lot then we will see a few goals at the wrong end. Throw everything at them including Delia Smiths cookery book.

    Randolph
    Richardson/Dailly/Sodje/Borrowdale
    Sam/Bailey/Semedo/Reid
    Forster/Burton (Mooney if out)

    Subs to be used:
Secret weapon 1) Shelvey to be given at least 1/2 hour as impact sub
Secret weapon 2) Wagstaff deserves another run out - looked up for it vs. Colchester
  • I would have Forster & Burton upfront and bring in Shelvey in place of Racon, otherwise keep the team the same. Rei'ds pace could be useful off the bench. If Holt & Hoolahan are out then we have every chance of taking the points in this game as long as we are organised and disciplined.

Hopefully Millwall lose to Huddersfield and leave it as a two horse race between us and Leeds!
  • Really think we can scrape another 1-0 here, with Forster the hero again.

The signing of Forster has parallels with the signing of Mark Bright in 1997/98 - getting a veteran goalscorer in to fire us to promotion!

    Agree with ValleyGary's lineup above.

  • Has the Borrowdale loan been extended? I thought he was due to go back to QPR after the Colchester game.

Perhaps that's why Matt Fry was played in an under18 game in midweek - match practice because Warnock wants GB back at Loftus Road.
  • really fancy a win after Tuesday now, I'd go with johnnybev1987's team but would be tempted by Shelvey if Burton not fit.
  • not got the optimism of others for this fixture can see norwich even without holt and hoola causing us problems and sticking two fingers up at us after we laughted at them going down................... we'll lose 2-0 .....
we're gonna end up in the play offs and if we meet millwall we will win , you heard it here first , anyone else not so sure
  • I've gone for the draw, I think we'll be leading and Norwich will get a late equaliser from that guy from Coldplay.
  • forster and burton up front, bailey has to play, reid has to play or there will be no pace in the team, possibly go for wagstaff on the other side so we have pace on both sides as there will be none done the spine of the team.

2-0 to Charlton Forster, Burton (pen)

Lloyd Sam will be nailed on to start mate.
  • oh dear oooooooooah when will you learn mate.
  • Pretty sure Norwich are fearful of Shelvey, he always seems to play well against them, surprised he does not get a mention in your Pre-match Build up WSS hang your head in shame. :-)
  • I fancy us, 2-1. Forster and Burton up top, Shelvey to replace Racon, otherwise the same unless Fry has to replace Borrowdale. Good open game though which will make a change from Tuesday. Leeds to drop points at Gillingham and Huddersfield to beat Millwall. Happy dayz.

It's not that I don't rate him, or don't see him as a viable option, I just don't see him starting at home. Two conventional stikers and an experienced midfield is the way Parky will go and in the grand scheme of things I think it's the right position. I just don't see Jonjo disciplined enough yet to play in a central midfield two.
  • I think we might see Burton in for Akpo, Reid for Racon and most likely Fry now that Borrowdale isn't staying. Shelvey and Wagstaff useful players to have on the bench. Agree with WSS I think Parky will go for the experienced midfield, whether that's Reid or Racon with the other three. Shelvey will break through as a CM one day, just unlikely it'll be this season now with the position we're in.
  • Same team as Colchester probably with Fry replacing Borrowdale at left back.

Fry's is left footed so no need to put Solly there

Can't see Burton starting as he's been out for a while
  • Actually read the preview here Wss, nice one mate as dont always......much better then the 'DO YOUR OWN PREVEW' lol
  • [cite]Posted By: BigRedEvil[/cite]Can't see Burton starting as he's been out for a while
Maybe not, wouldn't be surprised to see Mooney start instead of Akpo.
  • Elliot
    Richardson Dailly Sodje Borrowdale

    Sam Bailey Semedo Reid

    Forster Burton

  • I'd like to see us play

    Randolph
    Richardson/Sodje/Dailly/Fry
    Sam/Semedo/JJ/Bailey
    Mooney/Forster
  • S Sodje doubtful for Saturday, Elliott and Burton back.
  • Every thing i've read from Norwich fans has been negative in regards to Saturday.

Think they're of the opinion of 'get Saturday out the way' type of thing
  • norwich will be happy with a draw and i reckon parky would take a nil nil too.

    0-1
  • Norwich's London record in recent times;

    1 win in 25.
  • Unless I'm going mad, the OS states that Borrowdale is with us now until & inc 29th May....

  • I reckon the sprit of 1986 is with us. On Easter Monday of that year (31st March) we beat Norwich at Selhurst 1-0 courtesy of John Pearson's header. And it just so happened we were promoted in 2nd spot with Norwich as champions. Now that's an omen if ever there was one.
  • I fear that after a gutsy performance on Tuesday we will suffer a bit of a reaction.

Heart says win for us obviously but head says we will be lucky to draw.
  • 7-0 to us
