ballboys

edited April 2010 in General Charlton
Anyone there last night can't have missed our 13th man (after the crowd noise of course).

Ballboys were ahem changeable in the speed at which they were presenting cufc with the ball but super quick to get it back to us. Seemed to wind the oppos up a treat and the first time I've seen the multiball work for us.

there was also a norwich representative bwhind me in the w upper making notes on the game. I asked him wat he thought about Saturday. Gonna be tight was his reply.

More of the same please ballboys

  • you obviously then missed Barrowdale telling the one closest to him in the first half to slow it down !

Barrowdale had just charged over to make a block tackle near the half way line and his momentum took him virtually into the East Stand - whilst he was picking himself up the ball boy threw the ball to a Col U player to take a quick throw-in...........with our left back out of position and that side of the pitch totally exposed!!!

Could have cost us dear and Borrowdale let him know this in no uncertain terms when the attack broke down and went out for a goal kick
  • Well.

They certainly slowed it down in the second half!

A member of the management walked round the pitch to have a word with the offending ginger lad.
  • haha.

    Original point still stands.

Keep it slow for the oppo and quick for us.
  • It was getting very annoying later on in the game- when we obviosuly needed to slow things down- and they couldn't get the ball back to the Colchester players quick enough.

    Have a word Parky! ;-)
  • trouble is, if it becomes to noticable then the ref will just stop it - personally I'm not a great fan of it, don't think it brings many advantages and as stated above, could actually cost us in some instances.
  • Scrap it. Not a fan of the mutli ball nonsense.
  • At St Mary's on Saturday, Southampton deployed the same multi-ball system.

Obviously our management team were impressed!!

    ;o)

Its gotta be scrapped. Perhaps send the ball boys out there with more balls if we are losing/drawing with 10 mins to go. Surely there isnt a rule against that.
Cant be having people digging out 10 year kids doing what they are originally asked!

Didnt we use the under 17s a couple seasons back? It remember it being very obvious with the ballboys being around 6 foot.
  • It's good if the ballboys are old enough to employ common sense to our advantage. IE if we're losing & maybe drawing speed it up and if we're winning slow it down.

Unfortunately, we use kids that aren't old enough to appreciate the situation, so you get a scenario, like Tuesday when they couldn't get it back on any quicker, even though we are winning.

Total madness & it's p*ssed me off all season.

Either scrap it preferably, or use ball boys who are 15/16 yrs old and have some adult common sense.
  • Think this is a bit harsh on Tuesday's ballboys - the one in front of the East Stand towards the Jimmy Seed end got a fair bit of grief off both their left back and Prutton when he didn't throw them a new ball on a couple of occasions, and he didn't seem to speed up afterwards.

If we're going to use the system, then we're going to have to accept that it could also work against us.
  • Just use one ball like you do up the park.....
  • Well said chirpy why should they get special treatment

Dont think its fair to criticise them. They are only little, ive noticed on a couple of occasios that late on the game if we a re winning some of the coaching staff go around and collect the balls off of them if they have cocked it up or if we want to slow things down. I think maybe having older kids could do the trick though.
