[cite]Posted By: Hillsy's Up[/cite] Remember Gazza going to shake my hand in the tunnel then pulling his hand away in a "schoolboy error" way, but he said something different...went bright red at the time.
Off topic, but when we did the stadium tour a few months ago, Kevin Nolan was telling us about when we played Boro, and as they were coming back from their warm up, Gazza was saying hello to all the disabled kids at the front of the West. He took a shine to one lad and said he would be back in a minute, and a couple of minutes later popped out with a Boro shirt.
Top fella.
Boro then had their team talk, the whistle went, all the players went to come out and Andy Townsend said 'oi, anyone seen my shirt' ? They couldn't then go and take it off a disabled kid, so the kit man was frantically sent back to the coach to try and find another shirt !!
My first game was, as it says in the article a Dartford Game. I was a bit of a late starter as I must have been about 10at the time. My first Charlton game was about the same time. It was at Selhurst against Norwich. We lost 2-1, it was a very crap game from what I remember.
Aged about 11 -12 for match down at the Valley back in 69.
We took my god son to his first match when he was 2 months old. I dont think he saw any of the match as it was freezing cold and he was under his mother's coat.
[cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]I was around 8 or 9 years old - mid '70s no idea who we played, what the score was or anything. Can't even remember being at the match. Great fan eh?
I was similar - just a year or two before (we were in old third division). Frustrating not knowing the exact match. Have a vague recollection of being wowed by the East Terrace and size of ground. My Dad always told story how on the way home I went on about how good the goalie was - he knew then I was hooked...
First Charlton match was 87 i think, FA cup game at Selhurst we beat Oldham 2-1 in the last minute. I was 8.
Used to go Welling quite a lot though in the days of Terry Robbins, Nigel Ransom and Trevor Booker before i started to regularly go to Charlton at Upton park. Dad couldn't be bothered taking me to Selhurst every other week and i don't blame him
I was around 7 or 8, it must of been in either 87 or 88, Morts_Genius used to take me! From Charlton Life there are prob a good few other posters that may well remember me as an annoying younger bro what used to stand infront of the advertising hoarding in the half awake stand! Happy dayz them!
Used to go into that weird club thingy thats attached to selhurst!
8. my cousin took me to see arsenal v liverpool at highbury in 1984. stood on the north bank but wanted to go home and watch the a-team by the time liverpool went 3-0 down (my dad's not a football fan so started off supporting the glory boy scousers). my cousin soon started taking me charlton, however.
I was about 9, Fulham Vs Notts County 1976, it was a mates birthday 'treat' they lost 5-1 and the Fulham goalie injured his back against the post !! I think my first Charlton game was Hull in 1977 and we won 4-1. Like others have said the main memories where how massive (and wonky) the East Stand was, plus don't forget the huge puddle near the Valley Club (I'm sure people drowned in it after evening kick offs....)and the guy selling the peanuts...
Selhust v Aston Villa, late 80's on a trip with my football team, so around 8/9 I guess. We lost 2-0 I think. Remember buying a pin badge and a photo of Paul Williams!
Then, I finally got to see at The Valley in '93 I think, when we beat Oxford 1-0 and I was hooked.... season ticket from 95/96 until I left....
I have no idea of the year, quite a while ago, but it was the game when Charlton beat Gills 1-0 at the priestfield with Keith Peacock scoring the deciding goal.
I was 6 and bizzarely, I still vividly remember bits of the day. Match was on a Saturday in 1967 against Blackpool, which we lost 2-1.
Although my Dad never collected them, I managed to find the programme for it on eBay a few years ago as well.
About 6 or 7. 1978 or 79 v Peterborough in the league cup. Drew 1-1.
Took my daughter to her 1st game 3 years ago when she was 7. v Bolton. Said to her when theres a goal you have to stand up and cheer. Bolton score so up she jumps. Had to pull her down and explain only to do it when the red team score!
