Swan

edited March 2010 in General Charlton
Is undergoing a slow makeover at the moment so you regular swan drinkers might notice a bit of change! The bar has been knocked through and carpet been ripped up. Going to take a while but you never know might turn out allright.

Comments

• Is it still open at the mom? might try it out Saturday
• needs it. used to use the swan years ago.
anyone remember the short black guy who used to collect the glasses in there? a real character.
• It is open yes. the work is being carried out whilst people supping... haha.

A new guy has taken over, an italian fellow named Vito and has been plans to update the pub and turn it around. hope it works out for him. even tho its a bit scruffy it feels much better already - you can see through the windows now!
• Desperately needed even just a wipe down with a damp J-cloth.

Just looked at its Facebook page, will have to have a wander up and see what's happening. Looks good.
• Wasn't the previous landlord a bit of an a***hole?
Not that I've been in there for years mind you.
• The village/Charlton needs a decent boozer at the mo, its getting harder and harder to convince my mates to stay around after each dismal performance
• i dont know soundas as never stepped foot in it - even as a local. roughhole so assume he must have been.

I seem to remember him making some derogatory remarks about Charlton fans a while back....something along the lines of how he didn't need our business etc etc.
Cheeky beggar...the place was a tip!
• no that was the bugle.
•
[cite]Posted By: Curb_It[/cite]no that was the bugle.
Ah right..............ooooops thanks for reminding me!

• The bloke was ok actually. His business had suffered badly with the relegations and when i spoke to him a few weeks back he was struggling to muster any enthusiasm, understandably.

it went downhill and you couldn't rely on there even being any beer on on a matchday. Shame really. I hope this new bloke sorts it out and doesn't just sell bottled peroni!
• Does this pub have sky? Is it home fans only? Ta
• It doesnt have Sky no. Not home fans only as far as I know as there were norwich fans in the garden and no probs.

Only sky around the area for away fans would be the Rose and Anti!
• Cheers, I am a home fan, might just go to the liberal again.
• I assumed you meant you had some Leeds fans with you. The Oak has Sky and that where we'll be beforehand.
• Oh yeah, too easy, nice one, Oak it is.
• The only times I've had problems with the Guiness in there has been since the new bloke took over and I told him so. Thing is, the girls behind the bar knew it was shite and still tried it on.

If it's no good on Saturday I'm ofski

Yes, his name was Sid and as you say a real character. Used to get steadily more steamed up as the afternoon went on and he ended up bumping into everyone and everything when taking the empties back!
• Shutting for a major refurb according to the Charlton Champion Blog. Shutting till 21st April so must be fairly major.

Could turn into a decent pub - tho after watching a few of the regular last night its still got its work cut out.
• Looking very smart today after the refurb.

Decent wooden furniture and parasols on the newly laid patio out the back.

Guiness was top drawer too.

I think the only trick they missed was not to leave the doors open so everyone knew it was open again. Until I actually pushed the door, I couldn't tell if it was open or closed.

• Went in tonight after the match and must say I was impressed. Decor is tastefully done, no jukebox, the beer (Black Sheep Bitter) was pretty good and the landlord seemed a decent enough bloke. I really hope they make a go of it and that they can survive through the summer until the new season starts. Charlton and The Village especially is crying out for a decent pub that isn't full of er.... shall we say 'oddballs'.
• Open again today after being shut for the last couple of games. Another new face giving it a go!

No bitter this week but will be sorted soon.
• Went in there yesterday.
Sent 2 pints back as was off.
Avoid until they sort out their beers.
The place was empty
• Not taken nearly enough wickets ...
