[cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]Did GB have anything to say about his contract status? As it stands he is out of contract in the summer isn't he?
Hope he stays
Both out of contract. Both been told that it will depend on which division we are in. No decisions or discussion until then.
Both have agents who they both really liked and trust. GBs speaks to him once or twice a week.
SS said there are good and bad agents but theirs look out for them and aren't just in it for the money.
Pleased for Perkins as I expected the others to stay (perhaps not Davisson depending on what happened with his injury), wasn't sure if he was similar to Godfrey in that he was a decent goalscorer at u18 level but wasn't quite good enough. Though perhaps attitude has made the difference here, he's scored goals this season and probably progressed well.
With Tuna it's nice to have a couple of young strikers, we haven't had any close to the first team since Charlie MacDonald. Seven subs also gives them more opportunities now.

Whats the FM run down on the players who are staying and going?

Whats the FM run down on the players who are staying and going?
I don't see any as big stars, probably not Premier League players, but we have players there that if things go well for them could be decent players at this level or maybe the Championship. Best group we've had since I've been doing the FM research (late 2004), instead of 3, maybe 4 potentially decent players, we could have more than that and of course a very good young player with Shelvey. Compared to this time last year, only Stavrinou and Clark stayed, and Clark is a long way behind Basey when you compare how they've progressed. Solly was also in that group but went pro early.
Mambo and Jenkinson I've rated as potentially decent players for a while. Mambo I can imagine reaching his peak in his late 20s, perhaps one of those defenders that really pushes his ability, like Primus did at Portsmouth. That's down to him though. Jenkinson will obviously be behind Solly next season so can see him going out on loan.
Tuna not far behind but not sure about him, probably needs to develop physically. Decent football brain and finisher.
Davisson I've not seen much of (one sub appearance in preseason I think), and from the Chelsea researchers feedback he didn't do anything when he played against them.
Perkins like I said I thought was perhaps like Godfrey, decent player at youth level but did he have enough to make it in the FL. He's been given the chance so it's up to him to take it. Going to be interesting to see how he does if he goes out on loan. Out of those 9 he's the only one that hasn't at least had a game or two on work experience.
Bellamy just wasn't sure if he had enough about him, thought he might have got a chance, not surprised he's gone though, always one of those in between going and staying players.
Same with Pell, though the Chelsea and Portsmouth researchers liked what they saw. Decent player when I've seen him, though again perhaps didn't have quite enough to his game.
Anderson I don't know enough about, he's even taller than Pell at 6 ft 6 or 7. Did read he signed for us as he was homesick, so Birmingham didn't actually release him.
Binks another one I've not seen much, just seems to me like a decent keeper at youth level but nothing special. He was let go by Middlesbrough, was told by their researcher they had keepers younger than him that were better, though he was decent himself.
Having a look at the year below, I couldn't really say who I think will stay. This time last year I had a good idea that Mambo, Jenkinson, Tuna and of course Shelvey would. Hopefully some of them can take their game up a level.
Thanks for this Henry, fascinating stuff.
I think these occasions are invaluable, not only for the interesting insights we get from the players, but also as a way of showing a unity with the players that perhaps they are not feeling at the Valley at the moment.
I'd really love to attend these, but living in Dorset rules it out for me.
Thanks again.

Didn't Anderson play for the England u16's or am I confusing him with someone else?

This season Jordan Cousins and Bradley Jordan played for England u16s. You're probably thinking of them. Cousins will probably be our main u18 prospect from the new group next season (though McGinty was this year until Man Utd signed him, hope we can hold on to him), don't know much about Bradley Jordan though.
He's 17/18 so unless he played for them while at Birmingham 2 or more years ago I don't think he has.
GB said he liked pardew - he gave him his pro contract and his debut. Said he was a good mamager for him.
GB said that AP was more involved in the banter and one of the lads, with PP you know he's the gaffer. (conspiracy theorists will have spun this into something before the ink is dry)
Tim Breacker does 99% of the set plays and does most of the attacking and defending sessions with Kins.
PP does team shape and phases of play. TB and MK do things like crossing and finishing.
SS still hoping to play in World Cup. GB has a welsh granny.
Terry and Bridge. GB felt bridge did what he had to do re: not playing as communication between FB and CH has to be constant. Said it would be very hard to play alongside someone who did that to him.
On the more general point of the perception of footballers SS said that that is why your family is so important. Others may see you as something different or special but with your family you are just you.
Responding to the question of "does Bailey fake injury?" GB and SS were very firm that he doesn't. "he's not faking it. He's a winner - if he went down he was hurt".
DIckson you "can not help liking". Very confident about everything he does. Thinks he will be top scorer at the World Cup. At his first reserve game he scored 4 goals and told Darren Bent he was going "I'm coming for your shirt". GB said he is good for the dressing room.
Sam lives in Abbey Wood BTW.
Can't remember anything else. A few other lifers were there so maybe they will.
Big thank you to Grant and Sam for coming along. Both were a credit to themselves, the club and to their profession.

This is 1 good reason why the club should look at getting a forward in as a coach (i know Mendonca was mentioned on another thread). What do a full back and combative midfielder know about finishing?!

True Chris, but Curbs and Merv were midfielder and goalkeeper.
I suppose it raises the question, do you need a specialist coach for each area?
[cite]Posted By: Scoham[/cite]Did Sam Sodje have anything to say about having Akpo at Charlton with him?
Basey obviously likes Charlton but does he actually support another club?
SS likes playing with his brother but they give each other stick. SS said he went threw on Saturday and didn't see Akpo to pass to and Akpo had a go at him.
GB was an Arsenal fan. His family had season tickets at Highbury but now has a real affection for CAFC. "I love this club" were his words.

I suppose with money as tight as it is, we obviously can't afford specialist coaches, but you wouldn't expect to see Mendonca coaching Sam Sodje and Dailly on how to defend so i don't see what Breacker can teach Mooney and Akpo about finishing.
Would have thought pro clubs would analyse footage and performance ealier in the week when the previous game is fresh in the players mind....then use the rest of the week concentrating on the next fixture.
How many coaches, managers and assistants out there were strikers? A lot seem to be former defenders and midfielders. Dowie was a striker, but he was hardly known for being a clinical finisher. Les Reed was a striker but didn't have much of a career.
Of course Tuna has a good footballing brain....... I helped coach him in his first team Henry, along with elder brother! The question is will he stay at Charlton!..... and develop.
I know he was happy at Charlton, but have not spoken to him for some time, so maybe yes or maybe no. Very ambitious though, with a fiery temprement. He has been at Charlton since he was 8 I think, but always came along to the league games my sons were in ( Gravesend and Northfleet) What i liked about him was that he always wanted to win the ball, and was always in the right place to win the ball.
To a large extent you canot teach that, it is a natural ability, a sense..... some might say luck!
All I can say is that he must be 'bloody lucky' cause he has always scored goals when i have seen him!
Dave Chatwin one of the Charlton academy coaches used to rate him very highly..... I really hope he makes it, as the other lads.
[cite]Posted By: Swisdom[/cite]Scoham - how do you get to be a FM researcher?
Sounds like the perfect job!
If only it was a job! They just get fans of the game and clubs to do the research voluntarily, and in most cases it works pretty well.
At the time I posted on the Sports Interactive/FM forums as there were some poor errors with our players and the club. Stadium capacity was wrong, youth team was out of date, players had some strange ratings (Bartlett being a flair player was one I remember). The guy who was doing it at the time just stopped replying to their emails so they asked if I wanted to do it.
now that it is on the official site, as opposed to wild speculation, I would like to congratulate Mssrs Tuna, Mambo, Davisson, Jenkinson and Perkins on earning pro-contracts. I will also send best wishes to those not offered contracts (Binks, Andersen, Bellamy and Pell) and hope that they get themslelves fixed up with contracts elsewhere.

That is an absolute disgrace. Mr Blizzard - you sir are a complete and utter front bum.
Which is just what Grant said. If he'd played injured a player "even if I hated him" he said he would have asked after him.
