[cite]Posted By: Henry Irving[/cite]Colin, no need to be so offensive with the "any sane person" comments.
No one has said it was a good performance but unless one had seen (and Hansan hadn't) every one of the thousands of performances by every club every season how can such a judgement be made?
Only by the score and the standard of the opposition. Liverpool were third at the time and also finished third. They also reached the Champions League final.
Personally I thought Wigan away or the 6 - 1 v Leeds were worst performances by Charlton let alone the 9 - 0 and other thrashing that other clubs have taken.
However the point is that Hansen said "worst performance in the premiership" Not Charlton's worst performance or worst of the season but worst ever.
And that was clearly not only untrue but based mainly on his desire to run down Reed on behalf of his media buddy Dowie.
Hadn't thought of Hansen's comments in the context of his friendship with Dowie before. Do you know they were friends Henry, or is there some assumption there as they worked as pundits together?
Either way, Hansen was wrong and Dowie is a c**t - brother in the changing room at Fulham. Pair of gargoyles looming down over you when you're trying to eat a bit of orange. No wonder we lost.
Les was a gent. He replied to emails and called my mate in person. Can't remember what exactly, but most people got a recorded message about it, but he did actually make some personal calls.
Met him in a lift at the Valley. "It's a Charlton lift, of course it's going down", he chortled, happily. Not what I wanted to be fair. He was a pathetic coach with absolutely nothing to offer. His coaching website was derided, rightly, by the press when we moved for Brown and Thompson.
Was with us at the right moment to get a bit of kudos with the FA. His hastily taken down website revealed all he knew about soccerball (not a lot), and it was unsurprising that Charlton's players had no respect whatsoever for him. Although Dowie was plainly a mistake, I'd say if we could have eradicated one individual from history over the last few years, it'd be Les for me. That's not to say he wasn't a nice or "decent" man, just that he is inept and has damaged us as a football club. Still, he obviously impressed a few of the "right" people and I guess that's what counts.

Apologise about my previous post, I now realise he was a world class coach. Kettle's a great ref and GRASSCUTTER is the queen of commentators. Thanks for clearing it all up.
Well, he'd made a living in the game and was respected all over when he joined us. I remember going filming at New Eltham for an ITV kids show back in the early Curbishley era and all the players held him in huge respect and in a couple of brief sessions he visibly improved elements of the kids' football abilities.
Of course, he never had control of that Premier league dressing room and had to put up with snide remarks from players who frankly shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near a CAFC shirt.
By all means pick targets for our decline but there are plenty of candidates in front of Les Reed.
For a world class coach, he is certainly working his magic at the mighty Bishops Stortford! With Les Reed on board the 'Storts have rocketed up to the dizzy heights of 15th in the Blue Square Conference South.
he put the final nail in dowies coffin and the players preferred dowie and didn't want les in charge ....... even though he was a really nice bloke .....

Ooh, calm down Mr Eggy pants, you'll have a heart attack!
If Curbs hadn't brought Les Reed in when Gritty went then we wouldn't have reached the play off final and won it to gain promotion to the Premiership. We then wouldn't have been in a position to return to the Premiership at the first attempt once relegated and establish ourselves as a boring mid table club for six of the seven seasons we stayed there.
That would have meant that nobody would have thought of bringing Les Reed back to the Club and thus he wouldn't have been appointed manager.
Curbs has got a lot to answer for regarding the decline of this club as I have illustrated.
Is this some new game Len, Six Degrees of Alan Curbishley? Take an event in Charlton's history and explain why it is Curbs fault in less than six steps, perhaps.

There's a few who genuinely blame Curbs for the ills of the Club Ali so I'm playfully going along with it....
Just got talk sport on at work, has anyone heard the "Call Collymore" ad that slates Les ? It talks about how it's tough being a football fan because "for every Wayne Rooney there's a William Prunier. For every Bill Shankly there's a Les Reed".

Well I bet Alan and Iain are really bothered about that!

Watching us get tonked at shite hart lane to that extent hurt more than I care to remember. Liverpool was bad, like watching a painful departing.
Read was/is a nice bloke and doesn't deserve the grief he got. He stood up and was counted.

Harsh.
