No plan B or A to think of it.

We never seem to have a back up plan.If its not working like it clearly wasn't last night Parky dosn't or wont change the formation. If Parky dont get it right soon we might not even make the playoffs.

  • last Saturday Norwich were 1-0 down at brighton with 10 mins to go. their manager, Paul Lambert, went 5-2-3 and they scored 2 goals and grabbed 3 points.

Last night Parkey made 2 substitutions - swapped strikers and brought on a winger for a midfielder..........still keping it 4-4-2 and we got what we deserved.........BUGGER ALL.

    what a numpty !
  • This plan A and B thing comes up a lot. Not saying it's right or wrong, but what sort of things does would you and others like to see? Complete formation changes? Throwing Llera on up front?

Not an excuse but last night having to use a sub after 12 seconds doesn't help, and to make it worse we then had to play with 10 men when Mooney went off.
  • 3-5-2

    3-4-3

    Just something,,, pleaseee
  • Sometimes the blind faith in switching formations as the answer to all problems is misplaced.

Sure, the basic set-up of a team is important, but individual responsibilities within that formation are probably more critical. Take Monday's game as an example. Our so-called strength (our midfield) was being over-run in the first half simply because Bristol Rovers had more bodies there. They seemed to win all the 50/50 balls and to regain possession from our mis-placed passes because they had weight of numbers in midfield.

At half-time we should have switched to 4-5-1 with Reid coming on (probably for Burton who, to my mind, had a very ineffective game) wide left with Bailey moving inside. Parkinson did at least get the last bit right (moving Bailey inside), but then Bailey persisted in trying to play Hollywood balls out to the corner flags for Sam and Reid to run on to. Those high-risk passes seldom came off, so we didn't actually improve as a result of Bailey coming inside - and, of course, we were still outnumbered there anyway.

Tactics and formation go out of the window when key players do the wrong things or when they are not clear what the right things are. Racon should be running at defenders, Sam should come inside to look for the ball if he is not getting it wide (interestingly he did that in the last 10 or 15 mins and looked much more effective), Dailly should not be marking a quicker player (Heffernan) as the last man (which is why Sodje's mis-directed header set up Bristol for their second goal).

Everyone of us makes mistakes, but I blame the management team for failing to identify a lot of this, and the players for not working things out on the pitch. If things are not going well, you have to be creative about identifying alternatives. When you find something that works, you do it more and more often. Football is a percentage game.

As a Club, we seem unable to grasp those simple concepts at the moment - clarity and responsibility of role.
  • Scoham its not just the formations mate i can only think of once this season when a sub has changed the game. That was waggstaff against hartlepool and after coming on changing the game and scoring a goal still didn't get a start for the next match.
