A Charlton Staring XI of past players and current PREM players

edited February 2010 in General Charlton
This is a line-up of former Charlton Athletic Players that are all currently playing in the Premership today. How would this CAFC line-up fair in todays prem?

Nicky Weaver (Burnley), Luke Young (Aston Villa), Hermann Hreidarsson (Portsmouth), Michael Turner (Sunderland), Paul Konchesky (Fulham), Lee Bowyer (Birmingham), Scott Parker (West Ham), Danny Murphy (Fulham), Andy Reid (Sunderland), Carlton Cole (West Ham), and Darren Bent (Sunderland).

I reckon this team would finish mid-table!!!
Is there a better line up out there?

  • No place for Defoe?
  • yes good point! - as much as i dislike the selfish bum, he prob deserves a spot.
  • Jay lloyd Samuel over Herraidasson as he's old?
  • I'd also play Song ahead of Bowyer. Those centre halves would need alot of protection.
  • I'd take Hermann out and put in the centre-back whose just signed for Man U from Fulham - believe he was on our books as a youth.

Agree, Song has been one of Arsenals best players this year.
  • Song is having a great year for Arsenal and he probably was our best player the year he was loaned to us when we got relegated from Prem.

Maybe John Spector deserves a spot over Hermann or JL Samuel???
  • So if this is the team...

    Nicky Weaver
    Luke Young
    Hermann Hreidarsson
    Michael Turner
    Jloyd Samuel
    Alex Song
    Scott Parker
    Danny Murphy
    Andy Reid
    Jermain Defoe
    Darren Bent

Young - Hermann - Turner - Konchesky would be the best defence I think.

Konchesky seems to have improved loads since he's left.

I'd move Song back for Hermann, and play Bowyer, Parker, Murphy, Reid across the middle.

Hermann was never a good centre back let alone now he's 53.
  • Does Chris Smalling not count even though he was rejected by us? If he does then I'd have him in instead of Herman and Konchesky instead of Samuel:

    Nicky Weaver
    Luke Young
    Chris Smalling
    Michael Turner
    Paul Konchesky
    Alex Song
    Scott Parker
    Danny Murphy
    Andy Reid
    Jermain Defoe
    Darren Bent

Of equal interest to me are those players who came through our youth system (or simply didn't sign for the youth team following trials with us) and are currently "playing" at a higher level:

    Jason Brown (Blackburn)
    Chris Smalling (Fulham/Man Utd)
    Michael Turner (Sunderland)
    Jonathan Fortune (Sheffield Utd)
    Jlloyd Samuel (Bolton)
    Jem Karacan (Reading)
    George Boyd (Peterborough)
    Scott Parker (West Ham)
    Lee Bowyer (Birmingham)
    Paul Konchesky (Fulham)
    Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)
  • The teams are all well and good for football, but can any of them actually stare?
  • [cite]Posted By: Chizz[/cite]So if this is the team...

    Luke Young - £1m

    Alex Song - £9m
