A non-Charlton view

edited February 2010 in General Charlton
I watched the game on Tv with my Father in law last night. He knows his footy so I respect his opinion.
He does not support Charlton so obviously has not seen us play since we were in the Prem, however he recognised some of the names on the pitch, Sam, Burton, Dailly, Sodje, he has even heard of Semedo. Anyway his conclusion was that we have the playing staff, (even if some are getting on a bit) to achieve promotion. After Parky made his changes he realised that the blame lays squarley with the manager, there was no tactical changes, ie formation changes, apart from the wingers swapping over that appeared to be the best he could do, and rovers wanted it more, we spoke about Parkys record, I mentioned his losing streak when he was caretaker, 'why was he given the job' was the shout. I am not in favour of sacking Parky, that said it appears that he can be tactically lacking sometimes but it was interesting hearing a third party view. He was also appalled at the standard of refereeing. On the plus side he said it was refreshing seeing the tackles flying in and no simulation and that included Bailey!!
Just thought I'd share this with you.

  • Yeah, its been pointed out to me too, by everyone:

Where is the fight in your club, etc, etc. Not even any temper tantrums, you know, like no sign of any passion for the shirt or even their own egos. Nothing.

They didn't even seem overly bothered about the tackle on Basey.
  • Not sure a formation change would have been enough. Some of the players need to do that bit more, not just effort but making the right runs, decisions, take their chances etc. We need to start keeping clean sheets as well.
