pitch hire

Not bad value really - 2 teams of 11 plus 3 rolling subs = 28 players in total which breaks back to £75 each on the cheaper rate!

If anyone on here organises such a thing I would be interested...

Anyone willing to pay £75 to play a game of football is welcome to join my sunday team.........

    And i'll make you captain
  • We have ways of getting discounts on this, but only when we do our next charity event.
  • Ive never played at the Valley so would pay £75 for the pleasure.
  • I have sort of played a the valley, took a couple penalties at half time against bob bolder a few years back, against some yanks if I remember correctly
  • Played there and reffed there.

Playing was a bit of a disappointment as the pitch was rock hard.

Reffed a Charlton vets team vs the Back to The Valley team of 92. That was brilliant.

Bookings are now open for supporters or companies to play on the Valley pitch this summer
    Matt Wright reports

Bookings are now open for supporters or companies to play on the Valley pitch this summer – but act soon, because of a quarter of the slots have already been snapped up.

A total of 84 pitch-hire slots are available from May 6th-26th, with benefits including the use of the home and away changing rooms and dugouts, the use of the lower west stand for up to 500 spectators, and three official match footballs.

And the news that the Championship season will begin a week earlier in 2013/14 means that it is more important than ever to reserve a slot as early as possible.

Head of commercial sales Dave Archer said: “Following a vote by all Football League clubs last month, which saw a majority of 45 clubs in favour of bringing the start date forward, next season will begin on August 3rd.

“Because we need to allow a set period for Valley groundsman Colin Powell and his team to regenerate the pitch in time for the start of the new campaign, this year’s pitch hire period from May 6th-26th will therefore be a week shorter than previous years.”

After guidance from manager Chris Powell and his coaching staff, Charlton were one of the 25 clubs who voted against the proposal, ultimately to no avail.

“The commercial department supported this stance because pitch hire is one of our most lucrative non-matchday activities, but after the vote went against us, we’re now busy completing bookings and making the most of the time that we have,” added Dave.

“The full list of slots was only finalised a fortnight ago, but we’ve already sold a quarter of them to our regular clients and those on a waiting list who had previously expressed an interest and were waiting for the dates to be confirmed.

“Last year was actually our busiest ever pitch-hire period, so with one fewer week this time around, we’re expecting even greater interest.”

The Valley pitch can be used for corporate football games, supporters’ matches, local league cup finals, mini tournaments or even It’s a Knockout-style competitions.

Bookings also include complimentary function room hire for up to 500 people, easy parking, private bars and food facilities and, for an additional charge, the club can supply a referee and assistant referees.

Four pitch-hire slots per day are available, each of which lasts two-and-a-half hours, and bookings start from £1,750 (plus VAT). Discounted daily rates are available as well.

Said Archer: “We are talking to local league and associations, and there are also plans to continue the schools tournament which has taken place over the past two years. We’re also working with the Charlton Community Trust to support its work.”

  • I would pay 75 quid for that, no problem, my brother played in one of these a few years back and loved it.
  • I've played at the valley before. Missed a sitter at the covered end and still haven't got over it

  • Clearly the club have given up on the playoffs!

I call it progress, by rights a few years back they might as well have starting hiring the pitch out in March. ;)
  • That link is from Feb 13 so its a year old?
  • Surely this part should be changed??

    llowed Valley turf this summer.

    to MUD
  • And if you hang around until Saturday you will probably get a game for the first team too :)

They just sent an email round with the link to that page, and the 2014 prices. So the club simply haven't updated their brochure on the site but they are promoting it again.
  • Are they prepared for more postponed league games, as this will not help the pitch having a company jolly played on it a few days before a game, this is a joke.
  • They must have written off the prospect of the play-offs then.

Half this forum seem to have given up on life, I can excuse the club forgetting the play off dream until next season :)

  • Bargain. I'm going to use it as an allotment. Its already been ploughed for me to plant my spuds and carrots
  • Sweat the assets !
  • LOL, beat me to it Covered End.
  • If Church gets paid for playing on that potato field (or running around or whatever he does), I am not going to be paying £75 I can tell you that.
  • Shouldn't it be getting dug up and the drainage replaced rather than hiring it out? It would be good to get through next season without a waterlogged pitch!!
  • The lunatics have taken over the asylum.
  • Email from the club: Swap the park for the pitch.

Should be the park for the swamp pitch.

Maybe the drainage wasn't the problem after all.....
