You know what - maybe our situation isn't quite as bad as it really could be.
It seems the fire sale we had a couple of years ago may have stabilised us before it got mega out of hand!
Shame for Derby - never recovered from the crazy wages they paid when they were a Premiership team and I fully expect them to plummet again (didn'tthey do this a few years ago when they had to play loads of kids)

agree with that, unfortunately at the moment there's no money around to buy any of their players...

It all started to go wrong when Killer joined them!
There is no money to buy players and there is no money around to buy clubs in finanacial trouble. People have been saying for years that a club will go out of business, well I think we have now reached the time when they will. There are just too many clubs in big financial trouble
Stuart Pearce quote in that Mirror article:
"I’ve seen so many football clubs in the country that have a gut reaction, change managers and, all of a sudden, you are no better off in 10 years’ time.”
All the idiots like Bexleyboy going on about "why can't Murray sell the club, what is Peter Varney doing, how hard can it be to sell a club?" will ignore this and just carry on anyway.
meanwhile in the real world their is a recession and not many buyers willing to splash the cash.
We maybe OK for now but without promotion we will have big problems and even with life will not be easy.
Been saying that football has been at the point of implosion for about four years now. Sad for the clubs that go and there will be a few I fear but for the general good of the sport in this country something drastic needs to happen in order to bring everyone to their senses. I blame the premiership for its insastiable greed.

We're got millions of debt, an operating loss and we're in the third division.
Do we have winding up orders?
Are there clubs suing us for non payment of transfer fees?
Are there ex-players suing us for non payment of bonuses?
Is out entire first team squad on the transfer list?
Our debt is small compared to many clubs.
I'm not saying everything is rosy - but things could be a whole lot worse!
I think that it is just a matter of time until a club goes out of business. Once the first goes I wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a domino effect with a couple more following soon after. For too long football clubs have been operating in their own world, which is far removed from how any other business could or would operate.

It depends what you mean by "goes out of business". Administration could be classed as "going out of business" and we see that happen very frequently.
Regarding us and our future, obviously it is of paramount importance that we go up this year but even in the Championship most clubs don't have a pot to piss in, I feel we will be better off but not by much, only being part of the Premier League offers any real security..... but then look at Portsmouth! At least Charlton have honourable decent people at the helm who always try and do right by the club, hasn't always worked but the present regime have given us so much and thats why we are happy to let them continue hopefully with outside investment at some point. It is possibly time to look at a Premier League 2 within 5 years and to make sure we are very much a part of it but I'm sure the top 20 would not want to share the wealth with another 20 or so clubs.
But if we do go up, which obviously we won't but just if we did scrape 6th place and fluke the Play-offs, there will be a lot of free agents happy to take lower wages just to have any sort of contract. Bad for them, good for Charlton.

The FA need to step in and help out clubs like this I think the drop from the premiership becomes such a hardship money wise look at the likes of us reading and now Derby in recent times all played in the premiership just a few years a go and now reading and derby look set to follow us into league one.
I think over the next few years we will see clubs paying less and less in wages, I think at Charlton if we can rid of McLeod/Yassin permanently our wages bill will continue to get less and less and the better off for it we will be.
The gap between the top 10 in the Premier and the rest of football will grow as they contnue to bask in the sky millions. the only premier teams that will be affected will be those that mismanage their fortunes, as did Portsmouth when they chased silver

Spot on. We just have to get out this season, by any means.
Reality check time for Players and Agents alike.
