edited January 2010 in General Charlton
only five minutes I know, but the first goal was a cracker, 6-7 pass move including a back heal and a great overlap ... and a nice downward header, some great moves across the board, burton is so clever, he links play BRILLIANTLY, and waggy goal was in the absolute bottom cornerthe equivalent on the post stamp but in the bottom not the top.....

I cant see why everyone is crying anf moaning, we have 6 points in a week... ground out some wins and scored a couple of crackers, if shelveys had gone in, if dicko was allowed would have been a thrashing...

we do look frail at the back, but we are third tier, we cant have it all....

This season for me has been the best in ages....

I.ve just watched the highlights too:
Linky: Charlton v Hartlepool BBC highlights

Agree with you, the build up play for our first goal was fabulous - Shelvey>Basey>Burton>Basey>Mooney!!!
Basey's movement off the ball and overlap was crucial - and made the whole move happen.

Other points: the video opens with Lloyd Sam facing the wrong way fairly deep, hemmed in to the touchline with no practical support from team mates - suddenly changes direction with a backheel leaving the defender for dead, and with
3 defenders trying to close him down, takes them all on and sends over the perfect cross to give Jonjo a great goalscoring opportunity.

The penalty: Oh Llera, that was shocking schoolboy defending ......... why on earth didn't you just stay on your feet, stand big against the opponent and stall him - and keep your feckin hands to yourself ! Crass, crass defending.

The Jonjo hits the post chance: Was that Grant Basey well forward, doing ever so well under challenge to bring an awkward high ball down with his left and with his right, brilliantly pick out Burton in a crowded box who then laid back an inviting ball for Jonjo.

And Waggy's goal speaks for itself. Brilliant opportunism.
  • I love your Sam [highlights] positivity Oggy!

cue oohahmortimer "but if curbs had stayed we'd be winning the premiership"
  • Looked much better in highlight form! Some lovely stuff in small bursts though. Very little wrong with Dickson's goal too, contact sport and all that.
  • I thought it was interesting watching Dailly's reaction after the pen was given - clearly completely pissed off with Llera. I play CB occasionally and have one fairly regular CB partner who is prone to giving away stupid spot kicks - it really is the most frustrating thing a fellow defender can do!

[cite]Posted By: JT[/cite]I love your Sam [highlights] positivity Oggy!

    Ha ha, JT!

I wasn't at the match - and I'm sure there will be many who'll tell me that was the only thing Sam did right all night.

But even so, that was absolute quality from Sam, sheer class.
And no one even mentioned it!

    ;o)

Once again Oggy you're going on about how well Sam played....and once again you wern't at the match....this is getting a bit....well.......... whatever mate, I think you get my drift though..........not your fault you can't get to that many games under the circumstances.
I just think you're simply going to have to listen more to folk who were actually at the games on the terraces for their honest and unbiased opinions.
  • Thing about Sam is...what would we be saying if he lines up against us?

As has been pointed out teams often double mark him and we know he has a few goals and assists to his name and can deliver a quality cross, other teams are probably not so much scared of him, but know not to give him time and space. Perhaps because we see him week-in/week-out we don't always see the wood for the trees.

Good points, as I've said a few times I don't think he plays as badly as some make out.

There seems to be this point that Sam should be destroying this league 90 minutes every game, e.g. 8/10 performances every game. Even Bailey, Dailly or Semedo don't play that well every game, why expect Sam to? He defends well, keeps possesion fairly well, creates chances every game and occasinally scores. Room for improvement yes, but our other important players all make mistakes, but don't get the same critizism for it.

Slightly better highlights on Sky: Sky Version Interesting as the end credits appear that they think we were playing Crewe! Also didn't realise how close Elliott came to saving the penalty!! Wagstaff goals gets better very time you see it...
  • [cite]Posted By: SoundAsa£[/cite]Once again Oggy you're going on about how well Sam played.

Ah, SoundAs, be fair mate ...... it was a lighthearted reply specifically to JT's post, and in that context.

That's why it had a smiley!

I don't think there's anyone who doesn't like Sam.....we all know what he CAN do.....all we've EVER said is that he's too damn inconsistent.....especially for the amount of possesion he often get's. One or two highlights on some video footage per game, when something goes right for him, is in no way indicative of how well he has actually played for the remianing period.
This was never more evident than the recent Wycombe footage.

You make your own smiley by using a colon, a dash and a bracket and most people use them ???????????
  • ;-)

Was a lighthearted shout at you Oggy.

For the record, i thought Sam was very hot and cold the other night. Had a 15/20 min spell where everything [ i mean everything] he did went wrong.

No probs, JT ....... I appreciated your humour too, mate.

    (semi-colon, little o, right-hand bracket)
  • I have just watched both the BBC and CAFCTV highlights and think Dicko's goal being ruled out was unfair.

I also think we showed some real class, i.e Lloyd Sam turning three defenders inside out before plopping the ball straight onto JJ's head.

Llera's balls forward to the midfield were vital BUT the penalty inexcusable!

A win that i would say we didnt exactly grind out as it looked like we could have had more.

Beautiful goal from Wagstaff and unlucky shots from Shelvey.

Basey could be our LM when Youga's back!
  • I think Basey could well be our LM when Youga comes back....

gonna be one hell of a second half to the season...
  • Like that idea:
Kelly does like to get forward and having Basey there can only help.
