Would you play the diamond formation against Norwich?

edited January 2010 in General Charlton
Our midfield is probably the best department we have on paper, but as we all know it's only Bailey who's willing to take the initiative. Watching Norwich play it's all through the center. I know the diamond has worked for us recently away from home, but I also know that the diamond formation leaves midfielders isolated when play breaks down. I hope Parky is sharp enought to pack the midfield for that game and indeed wise enough not to use against stronger teams like Colchester and Huddersfield.

  • Semedo got to play in a role that could maybe mark Hoolahan out of the game.
  • Well as the Norwich game is played in 3 months exactly from today, I'll think I'll take a rain check on that one.

Oh and Colchester is only 4 days earlier.

    Huddersfield is March 27.

    Note- Diarise for March 20th.
  • didn't think it worked that well as it left Basey far too exposed down the left.

but what if Youga was on the left?
  • Glad to see you're a lateral thinker and future planner Covered End. I don't think it's a formation that will work against Rovers or Swindon, put those dates in your diary and ink it.

It struggled to close out matches against Wycombe and Stockport, and it'll struggle to dominate against most average teams. Whilst I'd like to believe the diamond could work, it's just like 4-3-3 whereby if you don't have amazingly talented individuals it's too weak to provide a platform. Having seen Norwich play a few times, Semedo will become too isolated as most of their play comes through the middle.
