Llera

edited January 2010 in General Charlton
After featuring in our opening six wins, he understandably made way for Sam Sodje. Colchester aside, I reckon he's played a full part in the points we've secured during Sodje's regular absences. I've mentioned before that I think we sometimes watch him collectively waiting for an error, not through ense of malice, but just because he stands out and looks a bit ungainly. Should he necessarily stand down when SS becomes available again?

  • If we beat Hartlepool then stick with a winning team
  • If we keep winning, I think Sodje should be made to play himself back into the side. Let everybody down against Swindon. Although saying that, Llera still doesnt fill me with confidence.
  • well he has hartlepool and orient to cement his place for the forseeable guture.
  • His problem is that he is on 4 yellows,so as soon as he gets booked he willlet Sodje back in. I am surprised he did not get himself booked yesterday, so he could take Tuesday out and be back in the team when Sod's ban is over. not that I think footballers are cynical.
  • Didn`t yellow cards "start again " on january 1st ?
  • Kap, don't worry, it's ten yellow now before a suspension kick's in.

Llera deserves to keep his place. Sodje has let us down big time more than once. The only time Llera has really let us down was a poor performance at ColU and everyone is allowed one of them occasionally. Also, Sam isn't that much better, if at all, than Llera and so if Llera is playing well why should Sodje walk back in. We've heard time and time again how good a pro Llera is and that although ub=nhappy at not playing Parky has told him to bide his time and his chance will come. His chance has come and he's making a decent fist of it so keep him in I say. Plus it might make Sodje reflect on his own performances and make him realise he has to eliminate the rushes of bllod to the head out of his game.
  • Agree with that Large.

Good thing I am not advisng them of what to do. I hope that Llera is given a chance, I still don't blame him 100% for the own goal at Colchester although the result of that was him becoming a quivering wreck. Some of his hoofs cross field to Sam are great
  • One thing is for sure all 3 centre backs will see plenty of action between them from now until the end of the season (injuries, suspensions and just tiredness). Just be grateful we have 3 such great characters available to us!
  • You never know, another CB might be brought in on loan to cover.
It's one of the positions in the squad that Parky acknowledges we're short of numbers.

Sure Semedo did a great job vs Brentford, but his solid defensive midfield presence was missed.

  • They are both "proper" Charlton players.

In my view, injuries and suspensions permitting, if we are winning matches then possession is nine tenths of the law.
  • IMHO, Big Mig has been much maligned in the past. Stick with him .
  • Agree with Large, not much between them, offer slightly different things. Whoever is playing well at the time, hopefully in a winning team should keep their place.
  • Its got to be down to performances in training and the games, quite rightly it seems that he has played his way into the side after Sodje giving him a chance. Competition is vital in all squads and if he has performed then he'll stay, Parkinson seems good with this and I expect him to play until a bad effort. Also I agree with previous posts that we are light in competition for this position, although could Basey not play at the centre as it may suit him?

So could Semedo, Youga and even Omozusi has played centre back before. We have players in other positions that have played there before at some point, just no one natural (well except Mambo who was on the bench the other day).

It would be nice to have a fourth centre back, but who would come here that we can afford that is either an improvement on what we have or happy to only be fourth choice? Left midfield is a bigger priority for me, and ideally we'd also get another option in up front. If we have problems at centre back I'd hope find someone to come in on a short term loan.
  • Left Midfield has to be the priority, really thought we may have had a chance with Puncheon after MK Franchise signed Townsend but appears he is staying. Would like another striker but not sure who will could get that would be any better than what we have.

As for CB, Dailly seems to have got over his injury and Sodje will be back after Orient so unless there is more funds than expected, I think we may have to concentrate on other areas. Llera may not inspire confidence but he is our player (not a loan), has the right attitude and is not that bad. Also thought he deserves a run after playing well since Colchester disaster and Sodje's foolishness.
