Next 8 home games

Need to win a minimum of 7 IMO. All are against poor teams we would expect to beat whereas the away games during the same period are all against average teams where we are likely to slip up on occasion.

Then starts the real tough run in!

Certainly is....so much so that I have been to more away games (already) this season than any other in the 30 odd years I have been going...and look forward to continuing to adding to that!
  • The next three matches are all homes...Hartlepool, Leyton Orient and Tranmere, we've beaten all three away and should on paper win all three, Norwich and Leeds will be under pressure to keep winning.
  • Got a bad feeling about the Leyton O match:
    On TV, expected to win,etc.............
  • Stand firm chaps, this is going to the wire. Leeds at home on 1st May could be historic....

    That's what I think too.

    ;o)
  • Planning on coming over for that one...hopefully it'll be another foreign Addicks match!

Those home games at the end of April and beginning of May (Colchester, Norwich & Leeds) are brown trouser games, maybe the club should get some branded stock in.

  • i expect us to win atleast 8 of that 9 with 1 draw away to swindon that will put us back in the driving seat for promotion seeing as we then have colchester norwch and leeds at home still to come, imo this year the 3rd place team will have enough points to have won the league or atleast secured automatic in every other season the league has been league 1

I'm really intrigued by this. Clearly, if things continue as they are, you are right. In fact there are four teams, if you include Colchester, who are above or around the traditional two points per game mark which generally wins you the title.

However, to have even three teams finishing above this two points per game average at the end of the season, you need to have a couple of teams seriously adrift at the bottom, or most of the rest of the league underscoring compared to more typical seasons. After all, there are only so many points to go round. I don't really see this pattern yet, although Stockport and maybe Wycombe are likely candidates.

That leads me to think that two of the current top four will soon begin to fall below the two points per game average. After yesterday, Colchester are probably one of them.

If we end up with 92 points, I reckon we'll finish higher than third.
  • With their 7-0 defeat in the FA Cup, and their 5-0 walloping at home yesterday - Colchester have shipped 12 goals in just 2 matches, scoring, erm .......none.

Can't be doing much for their team morale.

Agreed - looks like definitely setting up for hell of a promotion fight towards the end of the season.

All we can do is focus on our own game though, one match at a time, and reel in the results we need.

If we win our games, then let our rivals worry about us!
  • I'm sure they are worried about us.

Leeds - way in front for ages, with apparently the best 'in-depth' squad.
Norwich - on a brilliant run, and some good players.

... and yet we are still there ... they can't get away from us ... and they both have to play at the Valley.

We are in a good position in my opinion. As Oggy says, let them worry about us.

Lol, I'm just having a Charlton day, by which I mean expecting the worst, which I have posted elsewhere usually means that we do better than expected, I am quite comfortable being pessimistic as whenever I think we have cracked it we manage to dissapoint! Blackburn away, Boro in the cup, Swindon at the end of our 12 game winning streak when they were bottom of the league. As long as I am pessimistic we have a chance, when I come on here and say we're gonna do it that is the time to worry!!

Plus I love this feeling of anticipation and raw excitement.
  • Same here, Kap.

In recent seasons I've lost that stomach churning, raised hairs on the back of the neck, tingly all over feeling ( ?) to a degree as each matchday dawns ....But now it's making a welcome, long overdue comeback ! And after yesterday's win, I felt shattered ! Must be the effect of the enforced " break" ....

We CAN do this - just believe . COYA !!!!!!
