Footage of the 'prat in the hat' who wore a baseball cap at the Pompey game when we returned to The Valley with a pair of clapping hands on it on the ITV evening news footage when being interviewed by London Weekend TV. It went out all over The UK and beyond on various news programmes over the next few days....now I wonder who that was....LOL!!
A photo of the huge mens urinals taken at half time (from the outside of course!) behind the West Stand (that had the crunchy gravell floor and no roof), on an ice cold winters day with all the steam rising out of it....I'd pay good money for that!
Strange thing.......... the memory of a 10 year old in 1958.
In a display dedicated to how fans find out what's happening:
A tape loop repeatedly says, "Peter Burrows, IRN Sport, The Valley"
The Colin Cameron Challenge: Colin sits is a confessional-type booth, visitors will be amazed when all their questions about London derbies are answered 100% correctly in McWhirter style by the Charlton guru.
The Jumbotron with the viewing area diminished to a 3X4 pixel grid in the middle with a skip next to it containing all the dead bulbs. (that's the way of the future).
An F5 button that constantly updates the latest Charton Life discussions page.
A collection of angry opposition fans who've had to pay £5 for a programme on the opening day of each season.
a speaker from the mid 90's that is either too quiet to be heard or makes your ears bleed, whilst playing a selection of Charlton 'records' on a loop Red Red Robin, The Tilbrook under-rated masterpiece, 3 blokes from F block etc Oh and a piece of that Covere End guttering that leaked onto my head given the right wind and rain conditions
The Gatwick Three's Fiat Cinquanto
Garry Nelson's left foot
a Thanks Curbs sign from his last game in charge at Old Trafford
an Operation Riverside coach
Souleymane Diawara's gloves
The television gantry they used to put up in the middle of the East terrace whenever the cameras came to town.
How could we forget this! Noticed KCCC were still using one at these at the St Lawrence Ground for some of their televised day night and Twenty20 games a last year.
My dad's lucky wooden 1947 Cup Final rattle. It wasn't lucky in 1946 'cos he left it in the pub in Slade Green where the coach picked him and his mates up from. (Hasn't been too lucky since, either!)
A pile of charred and burnt nails, screws, hinges and other architectural ironmongery, as collected by Colin Powell after the centre-circle burning party had finished "improving" the Valley by setting light to a pile of "wood", towards the end of the exile.
The Floyd Road road sign recently taken off the building that was demolished on the corner opposite the station...now I wonder where that went???????????
