Postponment Positives

edited January 2010 in General Charlton
Just read on the OS that by next week we may have Dailly, Richardson and Youga back. Good news of course but wonder whether all three will go straight back in. Dailly obviously will but Omuzusi has vastly improved whilst Basey has also generally done very well. Personally I would seriously consider the possibility of Basey moving to left mid with Youga back in at LB. Richardson has been in/out with injuries since October so maybe give him a little more time and stick with Omuzusi?

Also good to see that Burton will be fine.

  • And i've no real problem with Norwich overtaking us at this point.

    The hunted becomes the hunter
  • I have not got an issue with Basey at left midfield, holds the shape, will need a lot of help with Youga overlapping though for crosses.
  • No contest - Richardson at rb in place of Omosuzi
  • I've only been back for one game this season, the Millwall game and i thought Omosuzi was absolutely terrible. These postponements allow us to get some of our players back so that can only be a good thing I'd say.
  • youga back in basey is a liability
  • But Basey is Charlton through and through oohahh...

Curbs was the manager when Basey was first spotted as a 9-year old.

    Is that right, Ooh Aah......?

I thought Omuzusi looked ok againts Milwall, no one at the back played well that day but imho Omo was the best of a bad bunch.

I am not saying that Wycombe will be easy but I think we could afford to give Richardson an extra week off as to ensure he does not get another quick injury ruling him out of the more important games come Feb/March etc

they might as well pick us lot ....... i mean if robbie elliot is a decent keeper parkinsons a top manager mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  • oohaah as you know I often see eye to eye with you especially about Curbs.

However you seem to have a real downer on Robbie Elliot which I don't understand to be honest. Care to explain why?

  • I think Omozusi has come on leaps and bounds but would still play Richardson if Frazer is fully fit.

Dailly with Llera so Semedo can go back into the middle of the midfield.

Youga at LB ahead of Basey. Grant can play LM especially away from home unless we have got Puncheon or that loan player from Spurs.
  • What about Leon McKenzie on the left, he played there a bit for Cov and should be ready to start by now
  • in response to Len

i just have no confidence in his catching ability, his decision making process (when to come off his line), his communication with the back four, his positioning at free kicks, or any of his keeping except his distribution which is reasonable ....
yes he makes the odd great stop but i just think that his errors (and he has dropped a few clangers) are looked on lightly cos we're all a bit misty eyed cos he came thru the charlton ranks and is a fan...
in a relegation season a keeper has more than enough opportunites to look great (scott carson for example) but to me robbie elliot had enough shots to make plenty of stops from but was beaten far too easily for my liking.....
i'm probably being harsh but having been brought up following charlton keepers from jeff woods, nicky johns onwards i genuinely think robbie is the weakest regular keeper i've seen down at charlton but there again we are playing at the lowest level we have played at since entering league football

Rob Elliot has made 49 appearances for CAFC so he is only going to get better with more games, keepers can go on till late 30's, rob is 23. He has dropped the odd clanger but not many have directly led to goals. He has vastly improved since he made his first start last season and after playing in front of the worst defence I have seen at Charlton in a long time last year, I feel it is very unfair to criticise him.

I agree that his communication is a worry though.

I would also place Weaver, Myrhe and Ilic ahead of Elliot in terms of weakest regulars.

That's basically how I see it. Couldn't care less if we are third from now until the last day as long as we pip them to the post. Maybe even sweeter for it.

Reading what the O/S says I'm not expecting Richardson or Youga to be fit next week as they haven't started training yet.

Said Parkinson: "Frazer is getting stronger and will be training next week, Christian is back in training, Kelly is running and should be training next week, so everyone is getting closer.
  • [cite]Posted By: oohaahmortimer[/cite]youga back in basey is a liability
This time last year Youga was apparently the liability and Basey should have been playing.
  • From a personal point of view I haven't had a game since 15th Dec and won't until next Saturday at the earliest so a month without action. Today's game at Billericay was all but called off on Tuesday but officially postponed yesterday. It's driving us referees absolutely crackers. Apparently I'm at King George's tomorrow! lol
  • and robbie does the ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so hes a first name on the sheet for me ;)

Better get the hounds warmed up then. Looks like you'll get your wish after both Norwich and Leeds ease further away from us by 5.00pm today. Be good if both or Norwich, in particular, slip up but can't see it sadly.

Sad to say it but my money is on the hunted. We have had two chances to 'hunt' down Leeds this season (must recently over the xmas period) and blown it. I can see Norwich hunting down Leeds perhaps.

Would love to be proved wrong but we still have that unfortunate habit of making life difficult for ourselves. Even with a full squad.
  • My inspired guess is:

    Champions:
    Norwich
    Runners up: Charlton
Play off winners: Colchester or any other wild card contender
Gob-smacked can't quite believe it fecked up: Leeds Utd

I really hope so, would not surprise me to see Norwich as champs, Leeds were awful on Sat and if that lead gets cut much more, they will panic a little. I think they have enough to at least get second but if Beckford and/or Grayson was to go, who knows. I think Saints may be the ones to watch out for in the play offs on current form (the last month or so)
  • When Beckford is sold I really think Leeds will start making there 1 nil wins into 0-0 draws. Beckford has 20 goals so far this season, the next highest goalscorer has 7...

If Richardson isn't back in training what is wrong with him? Parky has been saying for the last month he will be fit for the next game but it never happens?

A series of hamstring niggles, I'm wondering if similar to Andy Reid's hamstring problems that needed an operation to cure properly. At least the two postponed games have given him a bit longer to get fit.

Don't worry ..... we've still got Omo Suzuki.

    :oP
  • Wheres Solly ?
  • [cite]Posted By: Miserableold-ish git[/cite]Wheres Solly ?

At home in front of the fire, at the moment.
  • Solly has been on the bench for the last couple so can't be too far away, however he has only played twice I think for the first team in the league so perhaps is not quite ready for week in week out league 1 football. Not saying he is not one for the future but Omuzusi is a better option for now
