I heard a tip on Radio 5 the other day. To help prevent slipping over on icy pavements wear an old pair of socks on the outside of your shoes. I tried it earlier while I was clearing the path and it works a treat. Better than a broken wrist anyway.

keep in low gears (standard advise really)
do not accelerate quickly
everything you do, do gradually eg. if you are using accelerator do it gradually and stay in low gear, when steering gradually
try not to use your brake if you want to slow down then go down a gear
if it starts to slide ease of accellerator slowly and try to straighten up, if you are sliding stear into to come out
hope this helps as it helped me alot although i am still nervous about driving on it
Johnny, how do you accelerate "Slowly"
An old Army mate used to say that first gear is worst gear. Try starting in second gear to stop the wheels from spinning.
wasnt told that one but will try it out, but basically go in first if you want to slow down to gain control and then once in control you can try a bit of gentle acceleration thats wat i done
Just joshing mate, I knew you meant, Gently.
Icy condition! not snow, as i thought of putting that ;-P
(Sorry, couldn't resist )
lol no worries i half expect it, nah thats just common sense which i didnt realise. definately a one off!
LOL!
When out for a pint and you need to go out for a ciggie, zap your beer in the microwave and hey presto warm hands!
Please please please don't try the hot lager tip when doing this!
steering into the skid is only applicable on a rear wheel drive car skidding
just go slowly and don't do anything hasty and you'll be fine
haha great story! love it
Yeah stay in!
lol a dont try this at home momment i bet
Spot on - always use 2nd to pull away: More power, less speed.
