Marcus Bent

Lazy last night or supporting the game plan?

Comments

  • he was a lone man up front but surely that means he should hold on to the ball for a bit till he get's some support up with him, i can't remember him touching the ball more than once at a time, he was trying to release it first touch every time, i think he's stupid
  • Is their a lazier player in football?

Another reason why Darren Bents injury is bad is that we cant sell this money grabbing cretin.

    Harsh but fair.
  • Its a bit hard to hold up the ball when its pinged at you chest height all the time.
  • Don't think Marcus was that bad last night considering he was up front on hois own v Arsenal and us having 10 men.

However, I can't believe that the amount of praise heaped on him for the two previous games where all he did was show the effort so sadly lacking for the past 12 months. Standing Ovation! FFS

Beattie and Stokes will do me thanks plus Ferguson on loan in the middle with ZZ
  • I hope you dont mean James Beattie Mr HI.
  • I think MB has done well in the last two home games, cannot comment on last night, but would like to see him stay in the team. I think he needs to know the manager believes in him and don't think we get much out of him as an occaisonal player.

Yeah, I think he'd do well with Baby Bent. Just my ever so 'umble opinion not insider info.

    Shit - so do I.
  • I still don't think he's been good enough in the last 2 games althou such an improvement on the previous 12 months, just shows how badly he's played for us, 2.5mill down the drain oh and over 1mill in wages, wasted, couldv't got nugent last yr and had spare change!!
  • If ever a player plowed a lone furrow (what the eff does that mean?) - it was MB last night

i don't think he ever had a fellow Black shirt within 30 yards of him all game - the balls top him were either aimless hoofs from the back or Rommedahls powder puff passes to the Arsenal Back 4

not that i am a fan of his, but he had a pretty hard job last night & seemed to put in "adequate" effort

quality use of the queens english dood. doth's cap
  • Seeing Marcus Bent makes me realise once again what an underrated player Bartlett was although some fans liked to malign him.

I think I'd rather have him at 35 or whatever he is than Marcus. At least Bartlett gave 100% and he helped out defensively.
  • Who wants a striker to help out defensively though? Thats not their job so they should f off & stick on the last man.

MB had no chance last night & if he is going to carry on putting in the effort @ home like he has in the last two games then he deserves a chance.
  • I do.

How many goals have we let in from set pieces this season. Not that I was a massive fan but Bartlett was very good when defending corners.

Obviously the likes of Traore, Borat, HH and Faye should be doing that but they dont.
  • Your just inviting more pressure on though. The ball gets cleared and then your expecting Rommedahl to do it all on his own or hold the ball up while the defence moves up. No chance. If the defence cant clear a corner or a long throw then get rid/drop them.

Leaving Marcus/Darren right up there and having Romm sat just outside the box gives us a decent chance to counter attack and will also mean the opposition will have to leave 3/4 players back to defend.

How many goals have we conceded from set pieces?

Our defence has been distinctly suspect along with our midfield.

In those circumstances you need to defend from the front especially away from home. Bartlett was good at that and was as prolific a goalscorer as Marcus seems to be.
  • Not sure how many but Wigan and Sheff Utd away spring to mind and Fulham at home.

And I second what Mr Glover just said.
  • Is their a lazier player in football?

    Yes: JFH...
  • Marcus Bent is not fit to wear the shirt - the quicker he is ousted out of the valley the better. I'd rather have one of our academy players on the pitch than that lazy money grabbing bastard.
  • i'm certainly no fan of big bent, but digging him out for the other night is a bit OTT in my opinion. He never had a Charlton shirt near him for most of the night.

Slag him off for not doing it against Forest, but up on his own at Arsenal is a bit harsh.

  • Agreed, I saw the game on TV here and you might as well slag off Monty Panesar for England's batting collapses! Not much a bloke can do when he has three defenders on him and no support from his team mates.
  • I'm certainly not talking about one match. And another thing....chuck that other useless chump JFH on the scapeheap too! They are extracting the urine out of Charlton.

...eight, nine and ten..........breathe in......and....breathe out slowly......and then relax.....
  • Solid, would i be correct in saying you are on a January detox ?

December posts full of joy and merryment, January posts full of anger and hate !!
  • .....could be the case but doubt it.

My angst is about how these so called players that command a high wage can get away with rape and pilaging my club after all we have been through. These two players have shown the least passion than the rest of the team in my eyes considering they are experienced professionals. They, and some of the other players lack of effort has got us in this situation. I cannot put this blame on Dowie or Les Reed whatever the tactics they put in place, there is no excuse for lack of effort. And that lack of effort, care, passion whatever you call it has not only put us down as relegation favourites but they have been a complete embarrassment to our football club.

These prima donnas should know what it feels like for us fans - it fucking hurts! I cannot and will not forgive these bastards.

After supporting Charlton through all the bad times then finally be awarded by all the great things that have been achieved through honest hard work by the club, directors and fans; redevelopment of the valley; promotion (twice) to the Prem, these mercenaries have managed grab all they can and smashed our club to its knees within 6 months.

Sorry for my occasional pessimistic outburst but that how I feel.

    Solid
  • well put solid , i don't care how s**t or unfit they actually are they should be putting their bodies on the line for the cause and walking off the pitch at the end of a match totally f**ked rather than strolling off like they're not bothered
  • Well said Solid.

M Bent should have been sacked after Reading away, not that the rest of them were great but that perfomance alone was no better than any of us could have put in.
