on a more serius note though another team struggling with money , they have got a large catchment aswell
Argyle and Bristol City are the only English clubs of that size in that direction west of Reading.
Bristol is 100 miles from Plymouth. And once you get past Bristol, there's only Yeovil, Exeter, Torquay and Argyle as League clubs, in the 175 miles to Lands End.
Huge catchment area - and Plymouth itself has a population of more than a quarter of a million, one of the biggest cities in the UK.
Argyle have also submitted plans for an ultimately, wait for it, 46,000 seater stadium - to be built in 3 further stages.
If you ask me that's a bit optimistic, but completing stage 1 will take Home Park to a 27,000 capacity (as big as The Valley, as we all know).
For occasional big cup matches, they could easily fill it - otherwise they need to get in the Prem.
And hand on heart, I believe Charlton have a better chance than them, lol
Plymouth average just over 10k this season and are heading down, why on earth do they want to increase their stadium size just to host 1 or 2 world cup matches.
But when they were having good promotion seasons in League 1 & 2 just a few years ago, they were regularly pulling in near 19,000 capacity crowds.
Don't underestimate Plymouth, it's a big industrial city with no real football competition for 100 miles.
Argyle are no small town club like Yeovil Town or Exeter City.
Argyle are easily a club the size of say Bristol City or Cardiff.
And if they did somehow manage a couple of seasons in the Prem, they would have a club and ground the size of Charlton.
Argyle don't lack supporters ..... they've just been hacked off with a couple of years "stop the other team playing at all costs" stodgy tactics.
if plymouth got promoted they would easily get high enough crowds with such a large catchment area compared to the likes teams in london etc
it dosnt seem that long ago we had plans to expand our ground to 40k , now look whats happened
Argyle's problem has always been they are so far away from the main centres of population in the UK, that players don't want to move down here. So they don't get first dibs at the best players at their level.
Apart from Mark 'Amos' Stuart. A frustrated Lennie told him once, so the legend goes, ".....you can play for Bromley or be good enough to play for Barcelona." He chose Argyle.
Garry Nelson is also a bit of a legend down here, as a high goalscoring direct winger - rather than the channel runner role he played at Charlton.

See what just 2 months at Argyle can do to you?
