I'll second that. Not sure of the pen, first reaction was deffo but they tend not to show to many replays on the arab channels other than goals. I am not going to slag Pardew off or anything as I think he is the nuts but it was a dodgy substitution. He had to IMO take Rom off. Felt gutted for Hughsey.
After that it could and should have been 12 or 13 but for Carson.
Still, nobody really expected anything from the game did they?
Ref killed the game, gutless officials like Riley shouldnt be allowed to ref the 'big' sides.
Damage limitations after that, im not a massive fan of Carson but he was immense last night, it could have been 7 or 8.
We never really threatened, having to take Hughes off killed it for us as he is one player that can get you a goal, it certainly wasnt gonna come from 18k a week Marcus.
Nice ground but even less noise than Highbury, and our fans were just as bad until the last 10 minutes, I honestly dont know why some people bother going to football.
A complete non-event game, never see a bigger waste of a bullseye.
Was never in the game from the first whistle, so no chance with ten men. When i got home i could see why they never showed the pen on the screens, ridiculous decision.
Carson was a one man show, everyone else looked either out of their depth or terrified. Marcus come in for some stick around me but i felt sorry for him. If he saw another Charlton shirt within 30 yards of him he was lucky.
Left with about 13 left, glad i did as i beat all the queues and was home by 10.45.
i prefered highbury, they only let 35k one eyed pricks in there...
i though both Pens on a different day wouldn't have been given. The last team in the league you want to be playing against with 10 men is arsenal, and their 2nd absolutely killed us. I thought we were looking solid untill then, second half it was one way traffic but arsenals poor finishing made sure it was only 4
I walked out after the 3rd went in. I thought Arsenal were good and their forward runs showed how static and out of position our defense is a lot of the time. We probably wouldn't have got anything out of the game but the penalty and sending off ruined it. I could probably (just about) accept the penalty decision but no way was that a sending off. When the second went in, I thought about going at half time - and wished I had. Coming out their were 2/3 Charlton fans absolutely shit-faced standing next to the bar. Dunno who they were but they certainly had the best idea...
As for the players, I think Holland deserves credit. Since Pards has come in, he has been playing (and tackling) his best footie for ages.
Thought both were clear fouls but Van Persie was off-side according to Pardewand Osie wasn't the last man so should have been a sending off.
Considering that Diawara had already been booked how did Riley not at least yellow card him when he fouled Henry?
Not a surprise and I thought we at least put some effort in and tried to stop them even if it was without much success. View was so bad from my seat that I can't really say who played well/badly other than Carson (great saves) , Romm (seemed to want to run at them)
Totally underwhelmed by the ground. Very comfortable seat with leg room but such a shallow rake and so far from the pitch.
"As for our so called support , you can poke that as well . Full on flask brigade 90 percent of it"
Agree 100%. Just when I thought the passion was back after the last two home games as well. Maybe its me but I just dont understand how you can watch a football match and not sing and shout.

Im hoping Forest will be a lot better.
Its not just you I can't work that one out either , whats the point in going ?
Last night was the 100th ground that I've watched Charlton play at. And it felt like I was in one of those computer simulated games. Light years away from Aldershot or Newport in the 70s. The Arab sponsored ground had the 'wow' factor, but left me cold. So did the football. For the past few years we have approached games against the top four in the same way. We don't even contemplate harrassing or attacking them any more, yet Sheffield United had some success playing this way.
Sadly last night was all too predictable. Roll on Forest.
PS. What did Parew mean when he said he had 'lost' HH? Not another run in Newcastle?

Yep I did get the feeling that we'd transplanted most of the West Stand to North London last night. The singers we had were all over the place as well, which didn't help.
Just a quick observation from someone who listened on the radio- obviously it's down to where the mike's are but- given we were 3000 out of 60,000, ie 5%, the strains of Valley Floyd Road etc could be clearly heard.
I thought the fans sounded ok- but obviously i wasn't there and that's why i asked.
Lovely cinema big padded seats, salmon bagels, the film wasnt much cop just knew what was going to happen after that poor boy was sent off.. what a hollow atmostphere?
by the way sat in the arsenal end (free ticket) was pleased with the charlton singing from where I was, it sounded louder than what the arsenal produced even better in the last 10 mins.
We had about 1,500 in the ground by the time their 4th went in and they had about 15,000.
The Corporate lot seemed to be leaving in droves for the last 15 minutes and the middle tier all the way around the ground was only about a third full five minutes into the second half. I reckon at least 10k 'Arsenal' supporters were there on freebies enjoying their half time hospitality.
I was amazed at the Stadium when I first caught site of it - it looked like a spacecraft had just landed itself in Drayton Park, especially with the smoke pouring out from the cooling towers; but AFKAs comments summing up its souless Americanisation 'experience' were spot on. However, the 'cinema seats' were fantastic and the leg room is probably only bettered at SJP.
Me and Buckshee took our leave when they turned the tellys off in the concourse before the third goal, and by the time we walked round to the bridge the third had gone in, and Arsenal fans were leaving by the thousands, no wonder it was nearly empty by the 4th
Crap view, perhaps I'm spoilt with my seat at the valley, but couldn't see owt from where I was near the corner flag. Price of pie index, was a joke, but I didn't expect anything else. Does make you wonder what they design these stadiums for - in terms of atmospehere, although the acoustics weren't too bad.
The game turned on the pen and sending off, spoilt it really.
However I do think Pards held up the white flag with that formation, would have preferred HB in for LB, or even Romm, strange I know but with his pace and running couldn't he do a job up there on occasion? He's got a hard shot on him. However its not really the Arsenal's we need to beat, is it..
I didn't go last night but the arsenal game sounded just like the reading game, filled up with the bovril crew who only talk when they are tellin the person in front to sit down. I'm sure i'm being a bit harsh but if only the club created a section of tickets for singing supporters, so that these types of games could be enjoyed alot more by our fans. No doubt the Nottingham game should be loads better.

Roll on Saturday eh...

That's Cos you're young and haven't been going for long enough AFKA :-)
Team sheet said it for me as soon as I saw Faye in for Kish, I knew we were in for a long night and the dodgy officials just added to the gloom.
Nice stadium but as a 'Match Experience', it left me cold. Serious amounts of pretentious bollox compounded by that pre match name shouting stuff.
Of course, I might just be bitter?
Yeah nice spanking new ground but if thats the way football is these days you can poke it .
Give me Chesterfield anyday over that shite .
It was like going to Bluewater , and all that calling out the surnames of the players , very poncey
As for our so called support , you can poke that as well . Full on flask brigade 90 percent of it

Stadium of Light in Lisbon has the same design, but just feels a nicer stadium

Faye is truely usless.
"4-0 and you still dont sing" was good.
