I so nearly wimped out and headed to the pub - but decided to stick it out . What a day to find out that my coat is now totally not waterproof! I got home a 1 and my t shirt was still wringing wet.

Remember getting a real soaking at Pompey in 80-81, ended up with a topless conga line (the blokes anyway) on that old open terrace. I was going to put the plymouth cup tie that year on the best away game thread, we played the first half into a hurricane, somehow went in at 0-1, equalised after the break and won it in the last minute. Not a massive game in the grand scheme of things, but I guess like for the fans there yesterday, the fact we got a result against the odds whilst nearly dying from exposure in the process put it in the all time favourites.
  • [cite](Oh, and had to put up with ColinWalsh'sLoveChilds legs all the way home.............)

And a bloody good set of pins they are too
  • Out of 13 of us that travelled down, two stayed in the pub, one left as soon as he got to the ground and saw how horrendous the conditions were and seven left at half time. Me and two others stayed until the bitter end and I'm extremely happy that we did. Great little pub called the Armoury before and after the game and a lift to the train station in a police van when our cab didn't show up which was a touch because we made the (delayed) 7:20 by the skin of our teeth. Went back to my mate's house until 3 this morning and suffered for it today-enjoying doing nothing now.

One thing you can't accuse this team of is a lack of guts-that second half performance was fantastic.

I ended up in a pub in Bromley where a middle-aged lady in stockings corrected my mate, she wasn't just a Milf (in his opinion) but Gilf as well.
  • wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't for the random breeze at the back of the CLIT coach on the way home , Mrs buckshee's request for a borrow of my dry scarf were flatly refused.

Never been so glad to be home but did still enjoy the day

  • Having chuckled at the soaking of those who travelled on Saturday, karma was delivered yesterday when i was forced to play my first 90 minutes for 4 years, and got as soaked as i have ever been playing football. Body looked like a rhubarb and custard after and didn't get the feeling back in my hands for an hour.

Then in a delicious irony, after an hour of shivering i then went and burnt my arm in the oven.

    (Edit: & who is "Falconwood1" ?).

Yes cheers for that, the beer was a life saver.

    Falconwood1 - bald fat bloke.

That doesn't narrow it down too much Dave
  • There's too many Yeovil threads to read through so apologies if it's already been mentioned but anyone know what happened to the guy on the terrace who was lying flat out and then stretchered away. He didn't look good.
  • I have now got a cold from that experience :(

Well, keep this a secret, Nathan ..... mine didn't.

2 hours in torrential gale force wind horizontally driven rain, and another 5 hours in sodden wringing wet clothing and so frickin cold did for this ...... erm, slightly past his prime, once lean mean example of Charlton's finest.

I spent the whole of the next day in bed, three quarters dead and wimped through the next few days telling everyone it was nothing to do with man flu, and everything to do will the deluge at Yeovil.

    And d'you know what?
    No bugger believed me!

    ;o)
