Villa 3 Cafc 4 - never been that pissed at a game ever. Coventry 2 Cafc 3 - wild celebrations. Spurs 2 Cafc 2 - 98. madness when Hunt equalised. Fulham 0 Cafc 3 - 1986. First experience of lording it away from home. FC Tervarit 1 Cafc 1 - pre season inside the artic circle awesome trip.
0-3 win at huddersfield 10+ years ago. theyd recently moved to the macalpine (as was then) it was peter taylor (i think) first game in charge. great ground, reasonable turnout and great result. wembley of course for shear emotional value, but i dont really count that as an away game because its a neutral venue.
Southend away in the early nineties.
3 or 4 sending offs and 3 or 4 penalties, even Curbs got his marching orders and think it finished 1-1.
Highlights on telly next day, think it was ITV big match, and there I was, right at the front, I was famous!

It was the new management duo of Peter Jackson and Gabbi's dad- Terry Yorath. Not that long after Bowyer had left for Leeds and he came and sat in with the Charlton fans - great night - first time I met Wyn Grant and the late Dave Davies

Wasn't it 2-2 in Finland?
I remeber coming out of a club at 3 in the morning and the sun was high in the sky!
My first ever away game....at Palace in the 68-69 replay....I still have the program, and then onto Highbury....I did write about both of these at lenghth in another thread, so wont bore anyone again. Latter day it had to be at Old Trafford in the cup......the 10,000

You are right it was 2-2. After a night on the Viking Line from Stockholm to Helsinki with Charlton Charlie & Big Jeff I think I can be forgiven for forgetting the score!
We met up with a Finish bloke (Matti?) who used to post on the Pink Oboe list. He took us to a club in the centre of town. Still have vague memories of scoffing hotdogs at 3am in afternoon sunshine with the birds singing.
Villa 3 Cafc 4 has to be the best ever. Cracking day out. Before the game I was in a bar in Birmingham with a load of Villa supporters getting very drunk.
£1/pint, even 10 years ago that was cheap. Missed the 1st and may 2nd goals of the game due to the Villans not wanting to stop drinking.
The game itself was trully a classic. If it were another team other than us Sky and co would still be showing it.
Never before or after have I had such day out watching Charlton.
Also 1970 something (1978?) 5-5 away at Bristol Rovers old Eastville ground. No drink due to my age but 10 goals with 20 minutes to play.
Dont get games like that now!
Well, today's game at Yeovil may not quite have been the best game ever ...... but it was certainly unforgettable, in barely playable conditions, brilliant atmosphere amongst totally drenched supporters - and a 10-man fightback that another day would have brought the emphatic victory the performance deserved.
And the pre-match session in the Rose & Crown with all the Clit people was something we'll talk about for a long time!

One of the legendary Charlton away days!
No, maybe not the best away game ever, but for atmosphere, entertainment and matchday experience it was pretty special wasn't it.
Train from Dorchester to Yeovil Pen Mill got held up for 15 minutes by a group of pikey kids without tickets, who jeeringly refused to move when the flustered guard told them to get off.Don't know how it was resolved, but the train eventually moved off with them still on it.
Got soaked waiting for a 57 bus into town.
The number 1 bus to the ground crawled along in traffic. At one point a group of drunken addicks got on and the banter was great.
Out of the blue the quiet one of the group totally out of the blue slid of his seat onto his arse on the floor. Cue total hilarity.
it became clear we were going to miss kick-off so the driver told the group to jump off and goin directions I couldn't hear to the ground.
Me and the lad followed them.
At one point one of the group strode ahead, maybe fed up with the slow moving high jinx of the others.
He ducked across the main road through some trees on the other side. I yelled to my son "short cut" and followed him over only to find he'd gone for a slash.
I turned back to see my son standing where I'd left him with a big grin on his face.
Eventually saw the floodlights and sprinted to the turnstiles 15 mins after kick-off.
Steward directed us to front of crowd just to the right of the goal. My delight at the unobstructed view was tempered by the realisation there was nobody in front of us to block the weather!
Not much to add about the game that hasn't been mentioned on other threads; but from one goalkick Ikeme actually slipped completely on his arse.
We struggled pretty gamely against the conditions first half but it became so clear that we needed to hang on at 0-0 till half time.
I told my son if we were 2 down with 20 left we'd leave early.
But that second half was awesome. When Sodje rifled in that glorious shot I was convinced we'd go on to win the game.
At half time I attempted to eat some ham sandwiches I'd brought in a by now rain sodden holdall. It was quite amusing as they went soggy and started to fall apart in my hand.
Found a fiver on the pavement at Yeovil bus station and then like everybody spent an uncomfortable journey home in cold wet clothes that were stuck to me.
It was a bit weird as no other addicks shared the route home from Yeovil Pen Mill. Me and my son sat stuck to our seats in a kind of bemused silence.
What could we say?
The game at Newcastle, early 90s ..... we were 3-0 down and came back to win 4-3.
Walshie was a god that day.
Wolves away in the FA cup, 1976 .......3,000 Charlton there and even though we lost 3-0, the score totally flattered Wolves. Terrific Charlton atmosphere.
Away to Carlisle 1981, won 2-1 to clinch promotion from the 3rd Division ........long, long train journey but we sung, "Mike Bailey, Mike Bailey, Mike Bailey ...." all the way back.
The "Morts in the Snow" 2-0 win against top of the league Millwall at The New Dump .... even though we didn't hang around too long at the ground, the drinking and celebrating went on well into the night. In our wildest dreams, we couldn't guess that they could be top of the league the week before Xmas - and incredibly, manage to get themselves relegated !!!
You youngsters need to feel what a Millwall derby match is like - Palace is nothing in comparison.
St.marys 2 seasons ago when we scored from a corner in stoppage time to win the game 1-0. Then on the Tuesday night at Ashton Gate we did exactly the same thing by scoring a last minute header from a corner to win 1-0!
Comments
3 - 0 down, came back to win. Andy Hunt scored for the Geordies in this game.

Now that was more memorable for the walk (and Police van ride) back to the station!

Constant announcements of road closures and I was on a freebie ticket in the home end!!

Doesn't matter if it didn't turn out to be true. It hurt them so much at the time.

;-)
Do you mean Charlton 7 Huddersfield 6 in the 1950's, Rupert?
That was at The Valley.
No, maybe not the best away game ever, but for atmosphere, entertainment and matchday experience it was pretty special wasn't it.

Orient this year was great.
Yesterday will stick in the memory though but obv not the best away day lol
Man City at Maine Road 1984 1-0 win (Chris Jones)
Brighton at Goldstone 5-3 win 1985
Blackburn 1-0 win in FA Cup (Darren Pitcher)
Chelsea league cup 1-1 (won on pens)
Spurs 1-1 FA Cup (Mark Aizlewood) 1985
Coventry FA Cup 3-2 win (Hunt last minute winner)
Wimbledon 5-4 win in League Cup....(Bowyer 3, Garland screamer and Kim Grant)
Arsenal 4-2 win.
.....and of course, Manchester Utd 1-0 win (Mark Stuart) Scarcely believable that it could ever happen....but it did!
But my favourite might be my first away game....at Newcastle in 1983....there were only about 35 of us in total and 20,000 of them. Brilliant.
Walshie was a god that day.
