I'm not but there again I might have said that, played in the right position with the right Manager, Ambrose would be an asset. Of course that was Pardew's fault as Parky was only a "wallflower" last season (albeit a very well paid one) and had nothing to do with decision making, motivation etc etc. Apart from, of course, when he became Manager.

On the basis that only the Manager's opinion ultimately counts perhaps we should all be banned from offering ours on here specifically in relation to our players, coaches, Managers etc.

We could then just stick to the "Would yahs" etc etc and the slagging off of our rivals and former Managers.

I would say there is a distinction between having an opinion and a crusade.

In your capacity of Forum Moderator please do let me know next time my opinion becomes a crusade and I will act accordingly
  • Your opinion is becoming a crusade. ;-)

But as an aside Ambrose didnt play consistently well under any of our past 5 managers...
  • But Ambrose has played pretty effectively with his present one.
  • Though I have often disagreed with AA's take on players I think he is as much entitled to his views on players as anyone else on here.

Point taken on the crusade but if he feels strongly enough about it and fights his corner then fair enough.

Of course all managers and coaches have more experience than 99% of us but they make mistakes as well and where would the fun be if we never commented on players we love or hate.

But without being over deferential I think managers should be give a bit more credit sometimes for having that experience and more importantly working with the players on an almost daily basis.
  • I think most people feel that you have to build your team around Dazzer ie. in the hole behind two strikers is ideal for him and he is having a great season. Palace as a whole aren't doing too well though.

Fair enough - apologies to AA - let's continue.

I think if Parky preferred Ikeme to Randolph then as he is in a better position than me to judge, I'll not complain.I've seen Randolph & Ikeme play a total of less than 10 games between them ,so how can I judge ?
  • Can't decide what was the right call on Ikeme v Randolph.

Didn't rate Randolph that highly but I can see the arguement that playing a loanee before him was underminining.

Perhaps PP has already made his decision that DR wasn't up to it long term so wasnt too bothered about upsetting him. Or maybe he just picked the best player at the time. In terms of being decisive that is a good thing IMHO.

Going back briefly to crusades. I much prefer AA fighting his corner on Dickson to posters like Bexleyboy who put up some old tosh and then won't back it up when challenged.
  • Guess we'll never know now... Suppose Randolph had played and ended up having an absolute 'mare against Dons and we ended up losing heavily (remember they did have other chances that they wasted.) Then whose to say confidence wouldn't have been shot to bits and even if the lead in the next game had been taken the hypothetical fightback (assuming of course that had happened too) would have destroyed morale and we'd have on to lose?

Very big assumptions I admit but Ikeme must have been doing something right in those games. In terms of the longer scheme of things maybe Gandalf is now truly peed off, maybe that will leave us short of a keeper come January... or maybe he'll think that he's got to play out of his skin to have a future here or to sell himself to another team and play a blinder week in, week out.

Not sure I agree with Parky's call on this one but it worked out okay so far... I guess that's why he's manager.

  • no, he's the Manager because we couldn't afford to get rid of him.

Remember, managers don't just judge players on playing skills or performance during the match.

Many other factors come into play, like do they follow the manager's instructions, are they 100% at training, fit in with the team ethic and the other lads, attitude and behaviour, etc.

We've speculated that Randolph doesn't fit in. Maybe Ikeme didn't either ...?

No, Ikeme just got the opportunity to play in a higher league, probably with the team playing a higher proportion of the wages. I'd suggest it takes longer than a month to fit into a workplace....
  • Queens Park Rangers have snapped up Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme on loan until the end of January. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12875_5837267,00.html
  • Is there no limit as to how many clubs you can play for in a single season?
  • I think it's 3 so I'm assuming he hasn't played for Wolves this year.
  • Think that rule may only apply to teams in the same league, but not sure. Kevin Prince Boateng can't play for anyone else in the Premiership as he's already played for Spurs and Pompey this season.
  • i really rate ikeme thought he done very well when with us..apart from 1 shaky spell at southampton!
  • But there was a problem with mascherano last year wasn't there? re the 3 club rule

Also didn't Sol Campbell have a problem over this after he'd played for Notts County?

That's because he went to Liverpool and they are a special case.
  • Wasn't Campbells case to do with transfer windows and money?

Yep, he's been training with Arsenal and is eligible to join a club from now, but will any outfit take a punt on him?

Given arsenal's defensive problems I wouldn't be surprised if he signed a contract until the end of the season with them.
  • The 3 club rule is to do with holding the registration of a player... I believe that short-term loans are thus exempt, only Wolverhampton have held Ikeme's registration throughout

This is correct, although I thought it was two.
