Were we in on goal when

edited November 2009 in General Charlton
the ref blew for full time?
Difficult to say for sure but someone pinged a really beautiful long defence splitting ball to one of our's who brought the ball perfectly under control and looked like he was on for a one on one with their keeper.(Sorry, I can't recollect the two players involved).
I couldn't believe it when the whistle blew and scuppered what appeared to be our best move of the game.

  • Too right. Not sure who made the pass but I think it was Spring who collected it right in front of us on the edge of the area with no Saint within 10 yards. I just turned to cambs_addick and we both said "he can't do that!"
Mind you, would have been happy without pens but I can't really see a Prem ref blowing up when someones 1-on-1 with the keeper....
  • It was the 94th minute the whistle went & thus the Soton players stopped. Don't have an illusions we would have scored as we had been dire all game !!!
  • I agree!
  • i'll just check i taped the game lol
  • jonjo struck a long ball that i think mooney(was he still on) brought the ball down ,the covering soton defender had stopped and would have been very close to him had the whistle not gone but maybe a half chance was quashed by the ref ...... he blew as the ball was in mid flight ................ we woz robbed , these officials always fark us up!!
  • time was up. Ref blew as the ball next crossed the halfway line which many of them do.
  • Thought the ref was decent.
  • Straws, clutching and at. Deserved, Southampton to and win. Though it pains me to say it.
  • if only they had let us play for another 4 hours. we may have scored from open play again.

From my position behind the goal it was unclear where the ball was when the whistle blew (didn't hear it). All I know was seeing Spring collect the ball, I glanced at the lino to check for offside, looked back at Spring to watch him shoot and he was standing there with his arms in the air - that's when I knew it was over.
Agree Saints deserved the win. In the heat of the moment it was a knee jerk reaction of "that's not fair" when he blew for time but I think we were very lucky with a couple of penalty shouts (didn't have the luxury of replays, cardigans or comfy chairs so someone else will have to confirm how close they were)
