Oh come on...

We lost in a competition that we havent won since 1947. Is it really such a big deal?

All proper Charlton fans know it's all about the JPT

  • It's not the losing - it's the way in which the team lost.
  • Probably the only thread I will post on today as it makes the most sense (well the first line anyway)

Maybe I dont care enough but yesterday summed up what supporting Charlton is all about for me.

Some of the overreaction on here has been OTT to the point of lunacy, get a fooking grip, we lost a game of football.

We wont be the biggest shock of the FA Cup this season...

... to be honest mate it's not even that big a shock ... a few on here were predicting it.
  • Agreed. Was in a grim mood yesterday, before the football even started. by the 2nd half i was on my dads laptop looking at chair covers for my wedding, and glancing at the telly every now and then. It didn't affect my mood at all, no happier, no sadder, and don't feel particularly bothered today.

The team never showed up today and after 15/20 mins of watching, i thought that i wasn't going to even put in the effort to watch it on the telly properly as they couldn't give a toss, why should I.

anyway, found some cheap chair covers so it was a successful 45 minutes so thanks charlton for that. Wondering what i'll manage to do with my time on wednesday night as I will have a spare 90 mins or so.
  • I agree with Southendaddick, yep, we were awful, however, I think it took me 10 minutes to get over it.

It was a cup match, very low priority as far as this season is concerned. Lets look at the bigger picture and stop beating yourselves up over what is essentially a unimportant cup match.

Exactly. And all the other big clubs in our division had comfortable wins as well will only improve their confidence. Leeds, MK and Saints all won, Huddersfield hit 6 and Norwich hit 7. We're a joke.
  • True got the normal flack at work.........but just shugged shoulders no surprise i told them you lot have just seen how we have been playing for last month we cant score and let in goals......
  • I went to Disney on Ice yesterday and watched it on Sky+.

By 10 minutes in once I had counted our entire away support I fast forwarded (+30), stopped every now and then for corners etc and ended up missing the goal.

Worst thing about it was having to rewind and watch again, knowing the outcome.

We would only have got dicked at home by Lincoln anyway.
  • thing is its a shame as would have been good for confidence keep reading that the strikers need condridence a goal under thier belt........well with other team banging in 3 4 7 goals would have been good time to get a goal...........

  • With the bloke from Sidcup here. Explain, why our so called rivals in this league can be bothered and not us please ?

Believe me I am old school and seen us on our arse in many a cup competition, but this w/e sums up why we will not be going up this season.
  • [cite]Posted By: Southendaddick[/cite]By 10 minutes in once I had counted our entire away support

you took a lot longer than me ;-)
  • as Chris from Sidcup said all the other big guns in our League got through safely and with the added bonus of confidence boosting high scoring wins. As I said at the beginning of the season we are not going to score enough goals to go up.
  • rubbish performance and embarassing result but that is the Charlton way in cup competitions, been there seen it all before - was the same 10 years ago and will no doubt be the same in another 10 years.

It does add to the recent concerns though that our firepower has been extinguished recently with McLeod sadly proving he is not up to the task, Burton playing with a hernia and McKenzie being injured since joining us.

Parky should now send Burton to get his hernia sorted since playing through is not working, hopefully McKenzie is ready to start playing and perhaps we should recall Fleetwood if we can't get a decent striker in on loan.
  • I voted loss so apologise even though I predicted a 4-2 win

To be honest Suze, chair covers are a waste of money.
Thats my top tip from getting married this year.
  • I'm confused, why would you need chair covers?
  • i dont know - must be manky old chairs she's hiring?
  • Exactly what I was thinking but couldn't be bothered to write in a post. Some people on here need to get a grip. Or at least get some other interests in life. Yes we all want Charlton to do well and, if you look at the league table, we are.

Promotion is the priority this year. Disappointed with the NV result but not suicidal.

I actually think we have a good team. It was just a horrible day and some of our flair players (Sam, Racon, Shelvey) weren't up for it.

As long as they are against MK Dons I don't really care about the FA Cup.

This is basically my point in the overreaction thread, it is a long season and I would swap yesterday for a promotion! And some of the reaction has been ludicrous

Thanks God, it has taken 22.5 hours but some common sense is returning. Cup run would be nice but would not swap for promotion either, and we are still 2nd!

Blimey, two Mickey Mouse performances in one day you must be a glutton for punishment...

We're getting married in a dark barn, and our theme colour is dark so we're offsetting that with light things (tableclothes, flowers, chair covers) so white chair covers with a purple sash is the way we're doing it. the chairs arent that manky but they do look better covered as i've seen it set up both ways.
  • I was actually going to back Charlton yesterday, until I found myself up The Bull at Shooters Hill with a majority Charlton crowd, and the pub guvnor sitting there in his Charlton shirt.....then changed my mind! I'd be lying if i said i didn't have a bit of a chuckle once or twice.

Kissmeteef McLeod is an embarrassment to football. Sooner you're rid of him, the better!
  • Nice barn suze.....
  • How can a Millwall supporter call anyone an embarrassment to football?
  • Now now.....calm down. Don't act like you don't agree.
  • I didn't say that now did I! :-)
  • just cos we had no chance of winning it doesn't mean it doesn't matter .... we have a good chance of winning the jpt but i know which ones result means more and isn't the painting competition
