if you are happy with your Charlton lot at the moment join this thread and don your rose tinted specs. Personally I won't, we are a fecking disgrace and yes there is only one person to blame.

He's right though. Some people on here won't think that we have a problem until we're actually playing Northwich in a league game.

Good luck to the Supporters Trust - I think we'll be needing them.

Well i presume i'm one of those non-raving nutters, though i fail to see any synergy with being that and having to be pleased with your Charlton lot, or wearing the legendary rose-tinted specs.

Sometimes these things happen. The beauty of cup football is it gives teams a chance to turn over other teams at higher level than themselves. Its what everyone enjoys most about cup football as it is what makes it so appealing, and galvanises the spirit of the underdog. That is, unless you are on the suffering end of it. In which case it is a disgrace and should never happen.

The one team everyone seems to be building up as the Barcelona of League One, Leeds United, went through this very same experience 11 months ago against Histon. What matters most is the reaction.

Its hard to take, but that is football at times. It happens.

We've gone from a side others were purring over, to a side that people started to believe they could do a good defensive, defending job against, to finally to a side that holds no fear to the opposition at all. And all in the space of weeks rather than months. And all against the backdrop of a minimum of non-key injuries.

It is alarming in a football sense that form and confidence has evapourated from the majority of the players so quickly, and it needs to be arrested sooner rather than later otherwise we are going to have yet another drifting season.

Don't see anything rose-tinted in the above, yet it is possible to approach it without going ridiculously OTT in my opinion
  • Surely AFKA though we need a manager who can inspire confidence and have the tactical nous for more than a few honeymoon games at the start of the season. PArkinson cannot do that and how long do we let it carry on.

Extension of his contract when he has proved NOTHING is unbelievable.
  • AFKA, I disagree that the reaction has been over the top. If it were this one game in insolation then I'd agree but this is in reaction to a string of poor performances stretching back eight or so matches which the Manager doesn't seem to have a handle on and against the backdrop of him getting a contract extension. Knee jerk ? No way. And if we float along thinking everything is all right before we know it we'll be halfway down the League and wondering why.
  • I think we'll be quite lucky to only be half way down the league come May if things don't get better soon,

    Not so chirpy .

  • It's a disgace.

Saw Scott Parker play for WHam yesterday and he was immense. Absolute quality, though he does lack a bit of zip to his play like he used to have.

Mind you they did have Behrani playing for them who knows how to pass, move and tackle/challenge a 50-50 so it don't come right back at you like Semedo and racon are doing at the mo.
  • Gordon Brown. Surely a first round exit under a Tory Government would've been unthinkable.

  • There's a difference between having rose-tinted specs and just not stupidly overreacting after a bad run of form when we are still 2nd in the league.
  • we're 2nd in the third tier ffs whooopee dooo

i swear some would still get a hard on if we were top of the farking conference , saying how wonderful life is and that undefeated for 12 games in this really competitive league shouldn't be sniffed at
  • positive thoughts and we'll get the players to play well. none of this - let's have a good manager mumbo jumbo

ha, ha, best post of the week/month/year..
  • When Parkinson got a contract extension a lot of people were saying how much he deserved it. Then we lose due to a lack of commitment by the PLAYERS, not Parkinson. I dont think anyone will question that that team should have trounced NV. The fact they didnt was purely due to poor play by every single player out there. Couldn't keep possession, shoot, defend etc etc. Very poor.

But this whole reaction is ott. The key this year is promotion, not an FA Cup run. We need to get back on track in the league, so MK Dons is a huge game. Lose that and the reaction would be a bit more understandable considering that that would be a real blow to our promotion hopes. Losing to NV is pure embarassment, but that will be tomorrows chip paper soon. We all need to move on.
  • That's a very good post, Craig.
  • Pardew? Mcleod? Parkinson? Not Shelvey though. He can do no wrong.
  • [cite]Posted By: The Red Robin[/cite]Pardew? Mcleod? Parkinson? Not Shelvey though. He can do no wrong.

    He's 17.

The fact that he stuck with us shows enough comittment for me. Yes hes not played his best lately but its because hes set himself high standards. As i say hes 17 and its not right so much expectation be put on him.

He along with Elliot and wagstaff are hopefully the future of our club so why knock players like him when more seasoned pros and the manager should take more responsibility.

Craig said: ''The key this year is promotion, not an FA Cup run.''

Exactly, Craig. And all of the reaction that I've read - whether OTT or calm and rational - has been in that context.

As Chris from Sidcup pointed out elsewhere:

''all the other big clubs in our division had comfortable wins as well,'which will only improve their confidence. Leeds, MK and Saints all won, Huddersfield hit 6 and Norwich hit 7...''

And us ? We extended the time since a Charlton player last scored in open play to more than 300 mins. So who goes back to league action better prepared - a humiliated, unable-to-score Charlton or every one of our main rivals who used the weekend to boost morale and bolster team spirit ?

Perhaps Millwall will slip up tonight, then we can reasure ourselves that everything is really OK by saying, 'see, it's not only us...''

I'm not knocking him, I think he's a quality player and its good to see so many young players like Elliot, Tuna, Basey and Wagstaff featuring for us. My point is, if someone like Mcleod has a bad game, he gets slated, despite not actually having a real chance against NV. However, If Shelvey has a bad game - as he always does when Burton is out of the team in my opinion - it's the managers fault or other players.
