McCleod,Varney,Gray, Dickson and Fleetwood.

Wouldn't give half a mil for the five of them....there (more than anything else on the playing side), is where we've gone wrong in the last couple of seasons.

  • Agree that our strikers are the worst bunch I have ever seen wearing Charlton shirts.
  • Sadly whoever sanctioned these deals need to be held to account as well as who signed them, we paid stupid money for unproven lower league players varney and mcleod money spent on could be's rather than proven strikers, think mckenzie could play a big part this season. Not going back on to dowie but after 10 years of trusting sir alan they sadly backed dowie and pards the same way and look at what we've spunked down the drain.

£20,000 for a striker that's scored 11 in 18 starts in this Division doesn't sound too much to me.

As for £1m for McLeod now that's a different matter.
  • Just approx figure but £5.5 million for Gray, Varney and Mcloed plus wages for Todorov was a waste. £150,000 for Dickson and Fleetwood (even if they are not good enough) is not in the same league of wasting.
  • Well you can subdivide who cost what....and say that some were 'better' deals than others....or in actual fact some were 'worse' deals than others....I was merely trying to illustrate how woeful the lot of them are/were.
  • This is only my opinion but Varney was a potential premiership player in 2007 and his confidence was shot by Pardew! I was sorry to see Varney go and believe he could have been a very good player for the club. If he ever returns, I would no boo him!
Dickson is more than capable of scoring at this level and has never been given a fair chance at this club, 6 starts does not constitute a fair run of games when he played 2 of those upfront on his own!
McLeod is a joke end of

The difference is we will make a profit on Dickson but a loss on the others.

Varney and Gray were good players but the amounts were way OTT

Gray had serious mentally affecting issues and Varney suffered loss of confidence.
  • I think Chris Dickson is a good player if he was given the opportunity then he would certainly do well, Luke Varney, Andy gray and Stu Fleetwood Are simply useless and as for Izale McLeod .......wellll we should pay just to get rid of him lol!!!!

Don't you mean you HOPE Chris Dickson is a good player?
Speaking for myself I don't think he is...leastways in an Addicks shirt....which sometimes is the way it goes.

I'm not so sure we will. Paid around £50-60k in the end and he's out of contract in the summer. We can't even be sure Bristol Rovers will want to sign him, and who else will that can afford £100k or so?
