Don't laugh but would you take Francis Jeffers back.....

edited November 2009 in General Charlton
He is rotting in the reserves at Sheffield Wednesday after attacking a Port Vale player back in August.

He has a good goalscorong record - 1 in 3 - at all levels. I quite liked him as a player, obviously off the pitch he's a prize plum.

He must surely be available in January - would you have him back at Charlton at this level.

He is still only 28

is that 1 in every 3 seasons ;o)
  • NO!!!!!!!! i dont want to see that lightweight wet fanny playing for us again.
  • theres a reason he's rotting in reserves. God i hate that bloke
  • Probably more chance of seeing Dowie reinstated....!
  • LOL - so it's a no then!

I just worry that if one of our current prolific strikers gets injured, we are going to be even more stuffed. Who else is available for £0 in January?

    Seconded
  • I think i'd be a better option up front than that waste of skin..so it's a no from me :)
  • When he played well for us, he was a class apart and he was brilliant against us at their place last season. But, it would have to be a no. I suspect that his career slid as a result of his off pitch shenanigans, and he's blown one chance after another.
  • It must say it all that even though he's clearly played his last game for Wednesday, that no other club has even taken him on loan

Wouldn't be £0 Oakster. Bet he is still on good money (probably one of many reasons why nobody else has move in).

    And HAHAHA as well :-)

    No way!

Jeffers always puzzled me, on occasions he really could turn it on and looked decent and at times (that night at The Valley against Villa for example) I wondered why Curbs left him to rot in the reserves- but in the end after keeping Charlton comfortably in the top flight for 6 seasons with not even the vaguest hint of relegation I considered in hindsight he was right. Nothing Jeffers has done since (or Charlton for that matter) have made question the man's fine judgement!
I think Jeffers traded off of one decent season with Everton and after that he has had the odd good game but mostly he has stolen a living in football, Curbs thought he could re-ignite him and at the time it was a chance worth taking- sadly it backfired. Jeffers is finished and he has no one to blame but himself.

    Bloke's a complete prick

That's a 'no' by the way
  • eh no would rather have izale and deon if im honest.
  • I think im the only one here........but yes i would

He is a proven goalscorerer, which we need! i wudnt mind having him on a free for 6 months surely at this level he would look a class above and cant think of anyone else we wud get on a free who would score regularly.

I dont really care what his problems off the pitch are and its not to say he may get his head down given the chance and use charlton to either sprongboard him onto another club or as a club to settle in his final years, as he has never really had the one club other then everton

tbh i cant see us getting him, but i would be initially pleased and see how he gets on given either a 6month loan or trial?

  • Who needs the fox in the box when we have Izale!

Not a patch on his injury one.

Just the kind of disruptive influence that we don't need at the moment.

    It's a no from me.

He never really had that good a season at Everton, his maximum return for a season is 6 league goals (admittedly this was in 10 games):

I think I'd rather have Leaburn back than Jeffers.
  • if he would play for 500 quid a week...yes. Otherwise, no.
  • Looked at his record, 3 in 20 starts last year in the Champ. No Thanks- we can do better! Even McLeod could better that, and Lisbie

dont think so, plus as i sed previous think he would score alot in this league. championships another step up

as for mcleod he cant even get near that at watever league at mo.... although i hope he proves me wrong and that it is a confidence thing with him and once he gets a couple then he can score more

I think the reason was that had he played another game he would have triggered a stage payment to Arsenal and understandably Curbs was reluctant to pick him knowing that his transfer budget would take a hit.

A frustrating player - but one who I think was never in love with the game enough to knuckle down and make the most of his talent.

In answer to Oakster...I'd rather see Carlo return.

At the time we took him his season at Everton which was generally considered good enough to warrant the attentions of Arsene Wenger- no bad judge of good players (generally) and possibly a bit unlucky not to get in an Arsenal side overflowing with quality- that in all fairness most players would have struggled to get a look in with. Wenger must have seen something he didn't like and got rid and Curbs was later to find out exactly what and the rest is as they say history. I agree I would rather see Carlo back!

Good point- but I suspect if Jeffers had been playing out of his skin and doing the business for us any further payments would have been worth it. He didn't so he wasn't. Yes even now Leaburn would be preferable a good honest pro.
  • I would only take him back if the ONLY other choices were Lee Hughes and Marlon King, and even then I would probably bring Peter Garland out of retirement ahead of him!
  • what a stupid question, the guys a complete tit. %@((
