Hope you are wrong nolly but the results have generally gone against us - although when we do win it's all the sweeter.
Bing - does it matter? - not particularly but it's the subject of this thread so why not comment.
could be,never used to beat the geeks in norwood, but turned that round to beating them all the time, just like to smash them 3-0 at the valley, but sadly i see neil harris getting a brace or something, them last two wins feel a lifetime ago.
[cite]Posted By: Off_it[/cite]As long as we get the points I don't give a f*ck what you wanna call it.
Agreed. As long as we get 3points nearer to getting out of this shit league i couldnt care who we play. I care about charlton and could not give a nun's tit about any other club in England.
Parky's right ..... in that we have to treat it like a derby, otherwise we'll come in second-best, in time honoured Charlton fashion. Good management, he's worked that into the player's mentality.
Whether it's a 'real' derby or whatever judgement you put on the fixture, Charlton is near enough to Gillingham.
Probably closer than Charlton v Watford, and that's considered by many as a derby.
Anyway, Parky's a professional man. He won't care how the fixture is labelled - he'll just want the 3 points.
And regardless of tribal feuding, that's all that matters.
Whether it is a derby or not at least 2,500 Charlton fans are going so if Parky thinks calling it a derby motivates the players that is good enough for me.
Join Medway CASC leaflets handed out by the away end. Not Valley Express (it didn't exist) and not "come and support Charlton instead on Gills". Just a leaflet for Charlton fans given to Charlton fans at the away turnstiles. And try and find a Gills fans who was actually handed such a leaflet rather one who heard about years later. No you never will. Even Kentblue and white who mentions it has no idea what the leaflet was about but still he uses it to justify some resentment.
As ever the thousands of ££££ donated to the Save the Gills campaign by the same Medway CASC (and other CASC branches including Bromley) is conveniently forgotten as that doesn't fit in with the poor victimised Gills myth just as the failure to hand over our share of the last friendly receipts or payment for Josh Wright is ignored.
Still doesn't make it a derby to rank with Millwall

The whole leaflet thing also....i imagine the people going to watch gillingham play were loyal fans...why else would they bother going to watch gillingham if not.
So there was no way that even the worst marketing people would attract fans at a place like that. Jump out of one frying pan and come and watch a slighly less hot frying pan at charlton?
Bollocks if they were gonna jump ship theyd be going to watch arsenal or chelsea.
Can't believe that old crap about the mythical leaflets is being wheeled out again. Christ, you Gills probably have real reasons to dislike us without inventing them.
All this London/Kent stuff is wrong to assume mutual exclusivity. I am a proud Londoner and a Kentish man as I am proud of my great city and my historic county. So Gills can kiss my arse as they are not the only team in Kent. They just aren't as good, or as big a club as us and it obviously annoys them enough to make up stuff. This 'derby' is nowhere near as important as our others and can I echo what has been said by saying that I too hope that it does not become a regular fixture due and that normal service is resumed in the near future. CAFC vs Millwall is our 'Kent' derby - Gillingham is too far away, and too insignificant!
That said, we will have to be up for it, because I think that their team certainly will.
PS: Most Chorley folk will support PNE btw, and that could well be Parky's first love!
Bigstemerra thundered: ''All this London/Kent stuff is wrong to assume mutual exclusivity. I am a proud Londoner and a Kentish man as I am proud of my great city and my historic county. Exactly...well said proud Londoner and proud Kentish man !
And it really MUST be a Kent derby - I've just seen it described as such on the OS. And we all know not to believe anything unless it's on the OS, don't we?
Our display is the cup there the other year was shameful.
the worst thing about that(i think it was when spotty was throwing his chelsea toys out of the pram) is that we would have gone on to knock out millwall and would have had a non premiership run to the final and stopped the scum getting to a cup final and getting into europe and achieved those things ourselves(although losing 4-0 to man utd in the final and knowing we'd lose wouldn't be as exciting as winning at orient) .... i blame curbs

Losing 4-0 to Man Utd in the FA Cup final would have had the consolation prize of playing our first ever 'proper' European cup tie - we would have gone to Hungary instead of Millwall, and it would have been us mullered on and off the pitch!
[cite]Posted By: nigel w[/cite]''It's a Derby for Gillingham not for Charlton. Simples''
If we concede that, though, Ketman, aren't we handing them the competitive edge?
I am sure their entire playing and management staff are on here right now taking "competitive edge" from this debate. If they have any sense they'll be heading home from training ready to watch the new bird on Countdown.
Well I hope charlton go into it as geared up as gillingham will, It's clearly obvious that parky is trying to get the lads pumped up for this and glad he has. seems odd to suddenly start downplaying a game we sold out so quickly even when there's people still after tickets. I wanna see us batter the gills for every charlton fan that lives in kent. if parky thinks its gonna give the boys some extra edge by calling it a derby then he can call it what the hell he wants!
I see the Evening Standard tonight called tomorrow's game the 'A2 derby' and reckoned it was about as ''febrile'' as Charlton's season is going to get !!!
It's as big a game as Gillingham are going to get this season, but to suggest it's as big as the Millwall game is rediculous. I take on board the Parkinson angle of building it up to be a massive game, in order to produce a response from the players, but my old man and his old man are both life long 'Wall fans who realise that Charlton are still one of their biggest games of any season. In my opinion there's no need to even compare the two; Millwall will always be a bigger and better game to us, Gillingham literally mean nothing.
Hope you're wrong, Lost Red. I was rather hoping Gillingham means three points!
Looking forward to this one more than any game this season so far. First Charlton league game at the Priestfield in 29 years - yipee-i-yay! See you there (or quite possibly not, given where I'm sitting...)

And as with all the others, regardless of whoever the opposition is, one we need to win to keep the momentum going onwards & towards the Championship.
If Parky can engender a tad more edge to our game by reiterating the great support we're taking into Kent, then all the better.
But 3 points are 3 points, wherever they're earned....
COYA !!
Exactly...well said proud Londoner and proud Kentish man !
Fully understand the feeling not being the same amongst our majority London contingent.
Still, if it get the players up for it, then it has to be a good thing.
Our display is the cup there the other year was shameful. As was our support that day. Hopefully Sat will be much better on both counts.

We only have one true Derby match & no it ain't Palace it's them Oiks in Blue from Bermondsey.

3,000 Charlton
3 pints an hour
3pm
3-0
3 points
They will treat this as their cup final our players wont though.
