POLL: The 'lesser of two evils' takeover poll

edited October 2009 in General Charlton
I know the thought isn't the perfect scenario, and no one involved is likely to get universal support, but for purely hypothetical argument sake, there is a straight choice out of these two groups in taking over the club, which would you ultimately plump for:

  • Sullivan / Gold.

I'd rather take my own eyeballs out with a medium-sized jcb digger than have Dennis Wise involved with Charlton.
  • I've gone for Sullivan/Gold but i fear there's no smoke without fire and there's been too many mentions of Wise and sightings of him at the Valley for there to be nothing in those rumours.

    Until we know more neither.

We know nothing about Wise's supposed backers, their plans or levels of investment.

We do know about Sullivan and Gold and their track record in football but again nothing of their plans or how they will address the concerns of fans or maintain the traditions of the club
  • The money the mystery Arabs may bring in could be tempting, but the prospect of Dennis Wise managing us enough to make me think about taking an overdose right here and now. I'm now Sullivan and Gold lover, but at least they have a track record of making fairly sensible footballing decisions, although sacking Steve Bruce was a mistake!

The last thing I want is someone coming in investing millions but changing the manager etc every 10 games meaning we never get anywhere a la QPR and the early signs at Notts County.
  • Sullivan and Gold because I think Wise is a c**t
  • If Wise wants to play at being manager as well he can forget it. Actually he can forget it full stop.

I assume that the one person who has voted for Wise so far is that bloke the SLP interviewed!
  • [cite]Posted By: Plaaayer[/cite]Sullivan and Gold because I think Wise is a c**t

Can't argue with logic like that!

    ;o)
  • It's difficult to make a decision when we don't know the full details.

Sullivan/Gold would seem a better bet - particularly with the (SLP) suggestion that Wise would want the manager's job. It would be totally counterproductive to replace a guy (PP) who has only lost 1 in 13 and has steered us to second in the league.

That said, the Middle East consortium that Wise is supposedly fronting could mean more cash than the Gold/Sullivan partnership could bring.

Think I’d still ‘go for Gold’ though.

Preferably neither but if I have to choose then Sullivan and Gold because they understand how to run a football club, although they have not been as successful as Alwyn/Simons/Murray even though they had a lot more cash.

And the thought of Wise involved in anyway with our club makes me sick. Plaaayer is right.

Jimenez is only being used as a fixer, after his scouting role at Newcastle he should never be employed in a football role ever again.
  • [cite]Posted By: Exiled_Addick[/cite] although sacking Steve Bruce was a mistake!

They didn't. He was approached by Wigan who paid compensation for him.

  • Sullivan/Gold for most/all of the reasons above.
  • None of us have seen the details / plans behind the rumoured bids, and ultimately we might have to trust Murray & Varney to do what's right for the club long term, BUT...
Wise is very unpopular for numerous reasons. The Millwall connection doesn't help, but I doubt people would be too upset at the thought of Coppell getting involved despite his local history. Wise, rightly or wrongly, has always just come across as a spiteful, aggressive, and untrustworthy little man; not characteristics we yearn for on our board.
  • Noone can know what what or who is behind Wise and it pains me to say it but they could offer the best chance of long term success, but for now I am out (of this pole due to unknown variables).
  • I ve gone for Wisey get in some bloody rich arabs and dine at tables fit for kings and queens not heads of business and industry

Ooops, my mistake! Wasn't there some ho-hah at the time about them saying they were glad to get rid or at least the fans didn't feel they tried hard enough to keep him or something similar?

They didn't. He was approached by Wigan who paid compensation for him.

and he'd still be there if it wasn't all the hoo-har surrounding the then later aborted takeover by Carson Yeung. Bruce wanted to know what the future held but neither party could give an answer so he upped and off to Wigan.
  • Sullivan & Gold. Will run the club on commercial lines though we won't like some of that, and thus make it look attractive to others.

Jimenez is in a very murky business world. Transparency isn't his thing if he buys us it will be to make a quick buck. God helps if it goes Ashley I'd doubt he'd do what our board has recently done.

Finally found a photo of this Jiminy Football guy. Compared them with my Soton photos of Dennis Wise. He's there, with Dennis Wise, pretty certain of it.

  • To be honest, I'm past caring. The 'special bond' between supporters and board has been strained to the point of breaking over the past 2/3 seasons, anyway, and much as I'm glad Murray is still involved , I really don't think it makes much real difference any more whose pocket we're in, so I'm not going to waste any time fretting about it...

  • What Henry said.

For now, my vote would go for "none of the above".
  • None of the above option please
  • [cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]None of the above option please

    ditto
  • [cite]Posted By: razil[/cite]None of the above option please

the whole point of it was a hypothetical 'filler'. I'm sure if there was a none of the above option, it would walk it.

after a lot of deliberation about the hypothetical question can i vote none of the above??

edited cos afka beat me to it
  • I want to wait and see what's in the devillish stuff. I cannot bring myself to cast a vote for either the 'Cockney mafia' or the porn king (although he made most of his money in property deals which may just be my conscience get out of jail card.)
  • I would rather neither as I like it the way it is, the Murray/Parky team works, OK Murray has made mistakes but he is Charlton and he cares
    BUT
how deep are his pockets and he says he is looking for new investment so I vote for Gold/Sullivan as they didn't do a bad job at Brum and Wise is trash. My main worry is that all this talk of takeovers will upset the team and football management as it did last season with the Arabs - lets hope Murray and Co have learnt from last year's mistakes and effect a seamless takeover - if we have to have one.
  • Porn a much used word that. would this be strippers ? like most Hen and Stag parties have? or "top shelf "mags which most guys on here would have looked at , at somestage of their lives. Or is it live sex stuff which anyone get get on the net these days ?
