  • remember at game at the valley in 98 the playoff year, we won 1v0 nil think Mark bright scored.
  • I remember when they got promoted to what is now called the championship, they had a new ground and the self proclaimed best looking manager in the football league Peter Jackson and were sure to join the premier league PDQ. Pretty sure they beat us that season. In the championship winning season I missed the away game as it feel on my mum's birthday, my dad and myself managed to arrange for her to see her aunt & uncle in Wakefield Yorkshire but when she clocked the plan we couldn't escape! The home game was the only game I missed at home that season, I think I was on holiday and the league was nearly ours anyway.

After we went up Huddersfield got caught up in a relegation battle, the last day of the season they were 2 spots above relegation and not mathematically safe. The 2 teams below them (thanks to a Dougie Freeman handball...) manage to win and shockingly sent Huddersfield down! That was the end for them and they suffered a further relegation but managed to win league 2 at the first time of asking (I think).
  • That game where Newton got the edge of the box header we could of had about 20.
  • [cite]Posted By: BlackForestReds[/cite]My main memory is Eddie Youd's injury in something like the 7th minute of injury time at the end of the first half a few year's ago.
Yes that was the Xmas game we won 2-1 in our championship winning year. Steve Bruce was the 'Uddersfield manager back then and they were right at the top of the table before this game. Us beating them sent them into free-fall & the rest, as they say, is history.
  • Was it the 2-2 game when they were building or putting seats in the jimmy south stand? Seem to remember being next to them on the east terrace for some reason?
  • Didn't left back Jamie Stuart score his 60 yard wondergoal from inside his own half against Huddersfield at The Valley, about 1995?
  • They talked about the 7-6 game when we only had ten men, on talk sport this morning, made me very proud onthe way to work!
  • Everybody I know of a certain age, including my Dad, claims they were at 7-6, along with the other 760,000 as part of the largest Valley attendence ever. Shooters Hill was part of the East Terrace in those days. For tax purposes the Gliksteins reported this last Saturday before Christmas attendence as 12,000. Somebody was obviously telling porkies.

Remember losing 1-0 at the Valley April 2000 as we stuttered to the Championship. Caught a train from work in Bristol that friday evening. Wish I hadn't bothered. On sky, championship trophy nicely polished in its case etc. We were shite. However I believe we beat away Huddersfield at the start of our huge run of 12 (ish) wins on the bounce post Christmas 1999. Leaving all in our tracks it was effectively all over by the time we beat Palace in Mid march. Happy Days as were were never going to play them again..........
  • I wonder if anybody would own up to leaving the 7-6 game early.
Imagine storming out cursing when we went 5-1 down with 20 minutes left!
  • Remember going there about 12/13 years ago. Nice modern ground. Think it was the first game of the season. Went half way by Uncle's car and then by train. Just made the kick off. Lost but can't recall the score. Blagged my way back on a coach.

  • killers goal in the 2-2 game at The Valley broke Learys goal record the 3rd goal Hales scored against Cardiff in Wales 1st game of season equalled it.Steve Stacey was on loan from Ipswich Town when he scored for Charlton.I was at all 3 games unlike Tom Morris who missed out KIllers hat-trick at Cardiff.Still have Toms photo on wall of Killers record goal.
  • I'm sorry to say that I was at the 7-6 game, Buck Ryan scoring the winner late on when we were down to ten men. I was at school at the time and for some reason I was wearing my school hat (why on a Saturday?) and my mate threw it up in the air, when we won, and I never saw it again. My Mum was not happy! I was there but the crowd was quite small and yet so many fans say they were also there--some are telling porkies! Johnny Summers--what a player.

Interesting write-up of the 7-6 here

I didn't know Johnny Summers had played for Millwall, and haven't ever seen him referred to as a 'journeyman' before!

I'd forgotten that Bill Shankly was their manager at the time too.
  • my memories of huddersfield games doesn't involve charlton.
saw them at wembley twice in early 90's. once in the play-off and once in the autoscreen thingy.
but my biggest memory was attending the last game at leeds road, against blackpool. even though they were moving to their brand new ground, lots of emotions and comparisons to our "last game" against stoke.
  • The 7-6 game was just a bit before my time, but in 1959-60? I saw a young cocky blonde kid play for Huddersfield at the Valley.........Dennis Law.
  • My dad was at the 7-6 and the bloke next to him left at 5-1 down....
  • The report posted by JVL brought back some memories, though I was intrigued at the reference to 'the main stand' - there was only one stand, and a primitive structure it was too!
  • my dad's mate was at the huddersfield 7-6 but his elder brother left when we were 5-1 down when he got home and told his brother the result his brother beat him up!! lol
  • I was at the 1980 match at their place which Addicted recalls for the large punch-up before and especially after the game as we left the ground. Sadly, the national news in the days leading up to the game were dominated by the disappearance of two kids from Dewsbury and the police were beginning to suspect the parents. Charlton fans singing "they're buried on the pitch" didn't help entent cordiale and after we scored late on and their fans began to leave the ground, rolling up their sleeves as they left. It was then that we managed a burst of "go home and kill your kids." I can hardly believe it now but it didn't seem quite so bad in those days. Maybe it's growing up? Whatever, they were very angry when we got into the street.

Blimey you rotters.... makes the Addams Family 'song' seem complimentary.

Only 14 at the time, so wasn't allowed to go but my two older mates who I went to The Valley with both went and they still recall the car park story today.
